I enjoyed this season's opening two parter, in fact much better then last season's.

I hope this season's final villain is not a alicorn/unicorn. I would love to see a dragon or maybe an old villain comeback.

I am getting tired of evil unicorns, when are going to see evil pegasi and earth ponies.

Much like non casters in pathfinder they seem to be a bit underpowered in ponyfinder. As important as it is to a society to be able to grow food, it just doesn't rate as a CR for an evil villain.

Hey now, Ponyfinder gives plenty to earth ponies, and our iconic wizard is an earth pony, though our most popular one is the earth pony fighter, go fig!

Not to say we don't have other ponies too. Our paladin is a unicorn, and a druid pegasus for optimal weather control.

To reiterate, the link that Flutter provided doesn't represent how earth ponies are statted up in the actual Ponyfinder game that Nuku linked to.

I would love to see Midnight Sparkle show up in MLP. Maybe as a possible future or alternate timeline. Also in that timeline spike would be her right hand dragon.

I hope this season we will finally meet Starswirl the bearded.

Ended up watching the new season premiere a bit late, but honestly thought it was kinda...meh...not bad, but not the best opener either. And I will say I found the B Plot of Starlight's to be more interesting than the A Plot of the Crystalling. It had a few interesting tidbits:

spoiler:
Starlight effectively being added to the Mane 6 (opposite of my prediction). The fact that the two sisters arn't born Alicorns but ascended. The ,blink and you miss it, changeling flying in.

It would appear at least at the moment this season will be alot looser with it's theme then the previous. We'll see as it goes along.

I liked the season opener a lot more then last season.

I heard about the

spoiler:
changeling
as well. Hopefully that means "she" will be back this season.

I must have blinked...where did we see a changeling?

Aside from "Explore Equestria," the other big theme of season 6 seems to be "Family."

Spoiler:
Princess Flurry Heart, Twilight's niece, was a big part of the premiere. Heck, we finally had Twilight and Shining's parents speak for the first time at the end. Next episode seems to involve Pinkie trying to get a great gift for her sister Maud. We know an episode involving Fluttershy's brother is coming up. Wonder if any more of the Mane 6 will have their family come up?

I was pretty happy overall with the new season opener. Starlight and Sunburst were really interesting together. A sage type character is nice, and a stallion at that!

Sage Sunburst! I hope that these characters show up again. Before the end of the season. >.>;

Seriously though, only a 4 month hiatus? That's really surprising. No MA Larson this season either.

Look in the upper right of the screen at the very end of the episode, it's hard to see but there is a small black figure moving across the screen toward the castle. When blown up it's very obviously a changeling.

I am still surprised how short the hiatus was.

I am sure that each character will get at least one family related episode this season. I really looking forward to seeing Flutershy's brother and maybe, just maybe they will finally talk about what happened to Applejack's family.

Season 6 Episode 7
Kind of annoying to not even be allowed to say the titles outside of spoiler boxes.

Spoiler:
"Newbie Dash" - So, another character achieves their dream. RD is becoming a full-fledged Wonderbolt. Though apparently she's going to earn an embarrassing nickname. Probably just does something silly because she's excited and over reacts to what was likely meant to be light-hearted teasing.

I can understand that, but I want to mention that I do appreciate it.

Gift of Maud Pie:
This morning's episode was okay. Do like that Rarity is clearly moving up in the world, and her impression of Pinkie was priceless. Also nice that they demonstrated that Maud shares some of Pinkie's abilities.

The MLP facebook added some interesting images to their header. Slightly spoilery, possibly containing hints for episodes 4 and 7.

Facebook images:
Huh, Wonderbolt Dash and the background seems to be Las Pegasus. Bet that's where "Newbie Dash" takes place. I'm starting to think her embarrassing mistake involves crashing into something. Which, to be fair, is something Dash is not new to.
Also, AJ wearing an interesting hat and covered in dirt. I think the AJ image is from "On Your Marks," considering the hat's emblem matches Apple Bloom's cutie mark. I know the summary we got talked about the CMC wondering "What now?" But it seems like there's also going to be a race involved. Should have been expected, considering "On your marks!" is a racing expression.

I've also recently developed a wild theory for episode 6.

Season 6, Episode 6:
"No Second Prances" - I know the common assumption has been Starlight being involved, but we've since gotten a bit of info that the staff wants no teaser for it. We did have Babs teased as coming back, and thought it meant the CMC would visit her in Manehatten. What if Babs comes back to Ponyville and hasn't yet gotten the memo that Diamond Tiara is reformed? Or, refuses to believe a bully like that could really change.

Finally got around to seeing the premiere. Got to say:

Spoiler:
I wouldn't have minded the sisters being revealed as ascended alicorns rather than born alicorns, except that we've had extra material that had implied exactly that, that they had been born alicorns to alicorn parents from some unknown other place (maybe another plane of existence like Tartarus or Chaosvile or whatever that realm was that Twilight and Celestia were in right before she ascended). The Journal of the Two Sisters gave us an account of how Celestia and Luna came to rule over the newly formed nation of Equestria. I was looking forward to more material expounding on that, revealing who their parents were, where they came from. I had taken it to be canonical to the setting, written by people in communication with the people doing the show. I'm a lottle disappointed.

spoiler:
They said that an alicorn hasn't been born in Equestria but what if Celestia and Luna are not from Equestria.

Spoiler:
Of course they aren't. Celestia and Luna predate Celestia by some time

Trying to parse Celestia's statement of "The birth of an Alicorn is something Equestria has never seen!" so that it means that there have been natural-born alicorns, they've just been from outside of Equestria, strikes me as being overly parsimonious. Even if we ignore that it's never been clear if Equestria was meant to refer to the geographic area (e.g. the continent) or the political area (e.g. the country), it seems fairly obvious that she's making a statement to emphasize a natural-born alicorn being heretofore unknown, rather than trying to parse that it's something that's never happened there but has happened somewhere else.

Even if that were true, the very next line is Luna saying "it" - which I think we can all agree is a reference to an alicorn being born rather than made - "is beyond even our understanding." Given that there's nothing that looks even remotely like parsing or qualifiers there, that would seem to definitively eliminate any ambiguity in her meaning, which is that there are no natural-born alicorns prior to Cadance and Shining Armor's baby.

(I expect a few people will say something along the lines of "but if it was the circumstances of their own births, then of course Celestia and Luna wouldn't know about that," which strikes me as very flimsy reasoning; it's dubious that they wouldn't remember whether or not they were alicorns during their earliest memories, let alone that nobody would have talked to them about their early years.)

There's also absolutely nothing that I can recall that definitively establishes that Celestia and Luna were born prior to Equestria's founding. The closest that we have is that, at the beginning of the Hearth's Warming Eve play, Spike says "Once upon a time, long before the peaceful rule of Celestia, and before ponies discovered our beautiful land of Equestria, ponies did not know harmony." That's it, and that only establishes that Equestria was founded "long before" the "rule" of Celestia, not when she and Luna were born.

Finally, insofar as The Journal of the Two Sisters goes, I'm honestly somewhat glad that this seemed to fly in the face of it. That book has always been a terrible resource that was not only non-canon, but created more problems than it solved. At this point, there are almost no secondary materials that are reliable; only what's in the show itself can be counted on.

(There are two exceptions to this that I know of. The first is the original map of Equestria, produced as a poster, which is actually shown in the show, which "is shown in Pinkie Pride during Cheese Sandwich's flashback in Cheese Confesses. A portion of the northwestern area of the map is also shown during Daring Don't. The full map appears again near the end of Twilight's Kingdom - Part 2, when the Rainbow Power is first used." Rather ironically, the updated map, from an artbook, is actually non-canon, because it shows that the western coast has changed shape - the so-called "undiscovered west" - so that it conflicts with the map shown in the show itself.

The second exception is early in The Mane Attraction, when Twilight mentions the connections that Pinkie Pie made while "organizing the Ponypalooza Rock Concert," apparently in reference to the chapter book about that same event.)

So did anyone else see this past Saturday's episode?

I saw it. I was expecting them to play the Magi's gift trope a bit more straight. It was pretty good, I do get the impression they are trying to really wrap up the beginning stories of the Mane 6 this season. I predict the season ending being a setup to launch Guardians of Harmony.

I agree; I was waiting for it to come out that Maud had traded Boulder away in order to get a similarly last-minute gift for Pinkie.

...which I think is all of us, isn't it? Last I heard, all that had been confirmed were some new figures and (I think) a comic series based around this. What it's actually about is still unknown, or at least that's what I'd heard. (My guess is that it'll be the subject of next year's feature film.)

The thing that most stuck with me:

(this might be unnecessarily spoilered)

Spoiler:
Rarity's near-flawless impression of how Pinkie should have been acting.

I always love it when we get to see them expand their range like that, even if it's just borrowing one of their friends'. Similarly, I loved it when Rarity and Applejack switched roles in season four's "Simple Ways".

My favorite one of those was seeing Rainbow Dash's impersonation of Twilight in The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone.

I like it when they pair off two characters on this series that rarely(if ever) have been a focus in a episode together.

Hmm.. without spoilers eh, well lets see if I can explain. Well in the very beginning of the series most of the main characters were given a hurdle or goal to achieve.

Twilight - Complete her studies.
Rarity- Become a successful business person.
Rainbow- Become a member of the Wonderbolts
Flutershy- Overcome her shyness issues
(Applejack and Pinkie are a bit harder to pin down)

But as of the Current episode we have Twilight now a teacher, Rarity opening a third shop, Rainbow is well on her way to being a wonderbolt, Fluttershy is also much better about her fright responses.

It just feels like they are trying to wrap that up those arcs so they can start new ones.

Is it such a terrible thing? I like that our heroes are being allowed to achieve their goals, not being stuck in status quo. Heck, last season's doozy of the CMC finally getting their cutie marks I greatly appreciated. Plus, I'm intrigued with what they can do with Diamond Tiara now. Starlight looks like she's also set to create some new stories and conflicts.

I'm torn between wanting next year's theatrical movie to be the grand finale, or wanting the story to keep going. I do kind of wonder if they might not do a soft shifting of the cast after the movie (if they aren't ending it there), bringing Starlight and the CMC (plus Diamond and Silver Spoon) forward and having the Mane 6 step back.

I'm hoping EqG 4 isn't the last of its series. I know they're not perfect, but I do like them. It's fun seeing the more urban fantasy/magical girl Equestria Girls, as well as the high fantasy of Friendship is Magic.

Oh I'm not saying it's a bad thing. It's good to have characters that grow and change and advance. I was just speculating that these arcs are about played out and they are making way for new ones.

That's why I love the Friends Forever comic series, because they do exactly this, but expanding even to and among the background ponies.

So what are everyone's hopes/ideas/dreams for this season?

In terms of plot development and characterization, I'm not sure I really have any; for the most part, I'm happy to let the show do its own thing in that regard, since - having come to enjoy what the show has put forth thus far - I don't think that they'll make any changes that would be so radical as to undercut what they've done up until now. Watching the characters be themselves, and do what they do, is already enjoyable enough that I'm happy to let them keep doing their thing.

What I am looking forward to is more world-building and revelations regarding the setting's internal logic and consistency. The more we find out about how things work in that world, the more fun I find it to be.

Season 6, Episode 8 title, synopsis, and airdate

Season 6, Episode 8:
Weird timing, but here's the holiday episode. Some people aren't going to be happy, but apparently Starlight is part of this one. I think it's going to be a cute Starlight and Twilight bonding episode.

I just read somthing really interesting in regards to the upcoming episode

Season 6 Episode 6:
No Second Prances

Apparently the show staff has forbidden (or at least as far as they can) any type of synopsis or preview of this episode from being released prior to airing. This intrigues me, what could be so earth shattering a spoiler that they completely forestall all teasers?

My prediction:
In light of the sub theme of the season being family I'm betting it's about the Apple siblings parents.

It could be them, Starlight, Discord, Luna, another past villain, or someone else completely.

Season 6, Episode 6:
It would be interesting if that is the case. I just hope it's not a sudden, "They're not really dead" reveal. If they did get the go ahead to actually do a story about them, and openly discuss them being dead, that could be quite the episode of feels if it's handled properly. There are kids who have no parents, whether by death or abandonment, that it could be a powerful story for them. Wonder if it'll be kicked off by Apple Bloom asking questions about them?

It is interesting that they don't want any previews of this. It's got to be big, since they were able to come up with a non-spoilery synopsis for "Crusaders of the Lost Mark."

Looks like season 5 will be released June 12th as a Amazon exclusive.

Sorry, correction, the release date is July 12th.

So having just watched the latest episode, did anyone else notice that the show is now disagreeing with itself about the shape of Equestria's western coast?

(I know this is a symptom of having an old and a new official map, but the change to shape of the continent was entirely unnecessary, in terms of making it match what the show has said.)

Talk about things I thought would never happen.

Official MLP tabletop RPG announced.

Okay, so I watched the video in the link that Talia posted up above - or rather, I watched the part that was about the MLP RPG (starting at about 42:00 in the video, and going for about a half-hour) - and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how much the designers seemed to know about the series, and by some of what they let slip about how the game will be made. It was enough to turn me from being nervous about this to being excited for it.

Some highlights from that interview are as follows:

  • The RPG will be called "Tails of Equestria."
  • It will be released as a hardcover book, not a boxed set.
  • It will not make use of miniatures (that is, this won't require miniatures to play).
  • The character sheets will be for earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi, and "draw your own." Each character sheet will have a space to draw a picture of your character (the three pony races will have a basic image to embellish, and the "draw your own" will have a blank space), as well as a second space to draw your cutie mark.
  • Characters will have the option of starting as a pony that's already obtained their cutie mark, or as a blank flank and discovering their cutie mark during the course of the game.
  • "Nobody can start as an alicorn."
  • Characters will have three stats: Body, Mind, and Charm.
  • As part of character creation, you have a d4 and a d6; you pick which of these are associated with your Body and Mind stats (they didn't say what determines Charm).
  • There's no "class" for characters; what you are is determined by your race and your special talent.
  • Your level of talent is determined by the size of the die you roll. An ordinary unicorn has a d6 for Telekinesis; Twilight Sparkle is described as having "a d12 or d20."
  • Similarly, pegasi automatically receive a d6 in the Fly talent, while earth ponies automatically have their Body die increased to the next die size.
  • Each character chooses a personal talent, as well as a personal flaw.
  • Your Body stat will determine your Stamina points, which are the game's version of hit points.
  • Making an action that's opposed by another creature (e.g. hoof-wrestling) is determined by opposed rolls. Trying to accomplish a task against a situation (e.g. kick down a door) is made by rolling to equal or exceed a target number.
  • The game uses an "exploding dice" mechanic. More specifically, if you roll the maximum value on a die, you may then roll the next larger die, and keep whichever result is better. This can happen cumulatively, so if you roll a 4 on a d4, and then roll a 6 on a d6, you can go ahead and roll a d8, keeping that value if it's higher than your 6 from the d6.
  • The game will include stats for personalities from the show, including the Mane Six, Princess Celestia, and Princess Luna.
  • The game will include an introductory adventure; adventuring will include being sent on missions by the Cutie Map.
  • Supplementary materials will include things such as character sheets and a GM screen.
  • The designers mention that they're willing to receive proposals from RPG writers who want to submit other supplements for publication.

I think this sounds like a lot of fun, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

Season 6, Episode 9 title and synopsis

Ten bucks says Suri Polomare is behind the tell-all article. I also wouldn't be surprised if the article is either a lie, or a gross exaggeration of what actually happened.

Title of Episode:

Other than the 10 year old version of myself sniggering in the back of my mind. I predict one of two things will happen 1:Luna will be involved, "Day" being highlighted making it metaphorical so it may occur at night. 2. Applejack will get so used to not working the "Day" becomes much longer.

Was pretty good, actually. Nice to have a Spike episode where he didn't act like an idiot or have horrible luck to drive the plot. He got to be a hero all the way through, and make a new friend. I suspect we haven't seen the last of Ember. Spike now has a friendly dragon he can get answers from on things he can't learn from ponies. Jim Miller hinted we've got more Spike episodes coming this season, and hopefully they all match the quality of this one. It's about freaking time Spike gets some real love and character development.

Synopsis for Season 6, Episode 6 revealed.

Season 6, Episode 6:
Congrats to those who guessed this episode would involve Starlight Glimmer. And gee, wonder who the fellow formerly bad pony is? I'm betting its Trixie. As for why Twilight might think their friendship is a bad idea? Well, forgiving Trixie doesn't mean Twilight likes her. She might think Trixie is a bad influence on Starlight. Or thinks Starlight might not take it well when Trixie leaves town. Or they both end up being bad influences on each other.
