So due to a moment of weak will I watched the Australia released episodes.

Huge Spoilers DO NOT READ IF YOU DIDN'T WATCH THE AU EPISODES:

Discordant Harmony: Pretty standard fair, nice to see more character development for Fluttershy. I can't even imagine her Season 1,2 self being outgoing enough to be excited about seeing all the crazy that is Discord's domain.

and the big one

The Perfect Pear: The episode I've been waiting for since Season 1, and now is absolutely in my Top 3, probably my Number 1, episode for the season if not the show as a whole. It actually caused me to get a bit misty eyed, hearing the regret and mourning in the voices of all the characters involved in the story. William Shatner did a great job as Grandpear. And Felica Day proves once again she has a great singing voice. I now only wonder if Grandpear will be recurring or if they will actually make use of the fact that Burnt Oak agreed to tell Big Mac more stories later.

And of course I still want to know how they actually passed away dang it. Two healthy young people just up and die? There is a heck of a story there, one that I'm sure we'll never get due to the nature of the show but still my curiosity burns for the answer to that one. (Personal head cannon: Buttercup died during Apple Blooms birth, and Bright Mac passed away from heartbreak shortly thereafter.)

One thing is sure Season 7 keeps racking up more hits than misses. Can't really say the same about these new EQG specials (at least the first one.)

The MLP movie trailer 2, or what I call the actual trailer, will drop sometime this week.

Here it is the trailer.

I don't know what to think about that animation...its like a weird cross between Don Bluth and DreamWorks.

I like it, it's different, but still fits.

Curious Freehold is curious.

Freehold, do you still watch the series?

EquestriaDaily has reported that we will be getting a third trailer sometime in the near future. They also say the movie will be 99 minutes in length.

Dragon78 wrote:

of course! I'm using the holiday weekend to pony out.

Do you have a favorite season?

What about the movie are most interested in?

No, although the introduction to process Luna is one of my favorite episodes, along with maud(who I met TWICE!) and anything trixie related. Loved the hundredth so. It's a good series overall, and I truly enjoy the teaching of morals without being heavy handed or insulting to everyone's intelligence. And the "checking your references" rarity ep was one of the most mature cartoons I ever saw. Only the teen titans go episode that talks about how money works is more educational.

I just want to see the show get the movie treatment and see how it goes.

I just watched the perfect pear.

It was amazing. (words fail me to express how great I thought it was.)
As was the rest of season 7 that I've watched.

not that I looked at the spoiler, but... How does one find the Australian released episodes? and how many more are available through that?

Edit: Never mind... I should probably do more research on how I'm watching what I'm watching.

Hascon will include MLP:FiM season 8 first look and sneak preview of the MLP movie.

Some thoughts on the second Equestria Girls special (spoilered just to be safe):

Spoiler:
  • Rainbow is doing that director a favor. Fans will jump on any little mistake that the movie adaptation makes. He should be grateful. :p

  • Oh, so you're an alum of Camp Everfree, Mr. Director, and want to do those girls a solid for having saved it? That's certainly nice, but I'm hoping that's in addition to making a generous donation to the camp, what with its recent financial difficulties and needing funds to repair the place and all. Sure it might be in the black now, but that couldn't hurt, could it?

  • Wait...Mount "Vehoovius"? Okay, listen, the pony jokes made contextual sense with regards to Canterlot High School, since their mascot was the "Wondercolts" and all, but how exactly does this universe's Daring Do material still come across as being ponified?

  • So you need A. K. Yearling's approval for every little thing that goes into the movie, even though she's notoriously hard to get ahold of? That sounds bad for the studio and for her (since it'll give her a reputation as being a monkey wrench in the production). Why did she ever press for that particular concession if she knew how hard it would be to actualize it (especially since we can presume that she's off somewhere being the real Daring Do)?

  • This studio really needs to invest in better security. Are you going to tell me that, except for escorting someone off the lot, these guys might as well not even be there?

  • Huh, so Rainbow is using her magic geode to chase the culprit and...loses her anyway? How is that poss-, oh, she's lampshading how it's possible. Okay, well, why haven't the other girls used their-, no, they're lampshading that too. Huh...okay then.

  • I admit, I'm seeing quite a few levels to that "power ponies" joke. Like, is that PA being fired reminiscent of that episode being not very well liked by the fan community (as I remember it)? Or how Sunset, who wasn't in the original episode, has been dressed up as Mane-iac? Or how this is taking place alongside a Daring Do-themed episode, which is what a lot of people thought the fourth season's Power Ponies should have been (e.g. that they were pulled into a Daring Do book instead of a Power Ponies book, rather than having Daring Do be real)? Either way, there's a lot to unpack, here.

  • Rainbow, why aren't you using your super-speed during the chase montage? We can clearly see several instances of you and the culprit being in the same shot, with you only a short distance behind them! You could have used your magic then and this would be over!

  • Isn't Twilight's magic geode power telekinesis? I mean, I guess that can unlock a door, but...I dunno. That seems like a rather fine bit of manipulation, I guess. Sort of.

  • Okay, props to the episode for at least trying to fake us out as to who the bad guy was, and more so for them laying down the clues to the reveal ahead of time. But what I liked best was that we didn't see an on-the-spot redemption! Yes, Juniper apologized, but that alone wasn't enough to have everything forgiven, as she was essentially fired from her job. More than that, though, was that vengeful look she gave the Mane Seven as she was escorted out! Is this a new villain's origin story? Or will she join the Sirens and Abacus Cinch as an unrepentant villain that we never see again?

  • What the hell? Shouldn't all of those special effects - the lights and flashing and everthing - be added in during post-production? Seriously, those shouldn't be happening on set!

You raise some good questions, and some good points.

Some are answered in the third one, which was the best one IMO. I thought all three were better than any of the movies though, and I didn't especially hate the movies like some bronies. (Not naming any names, I just got here and haven't looked over any of the pages to see what others thought of them.)

I am a little disappointed that Fluttershy, Applejack, and Rarity did not have a single word of dialog during the entire trailer but I did enjoy the trailer otherwise and can't wait for the movie.

Some thoughts on the third and final Equestria Girls special (spoilered just to be safe):

Spoiler:
  • That's...is that Juniper, from the previous episode? And she's listening to the music video from the first episode? Those are-, OHHH! Now I get it! Rather than having three stand-alone episodes, this one effectively ties all three together, making them into a single story. Nicely played, DHX!

  • So the Mane Seven are actually featured in the movie poster for the Daring Do film? That's...rather generous, considering that they looked like they were just playing background extras with no speaking lines.

  • Huh, that's one of those floating wisps of magic - presumably from the broken statue in front of Canterlot High - that we saw in Legend of Everfree. You know, when that was presented at the end of that movie, it seemed like foreshadowing for the next major problem that the girls would face. Not only does this not live up to that, but it doesn't seem to further the suggestion that there's an oncoming disaster.

  • So this time it enchanted a mirror instead of some rocks, and that mirror...lets Juniper see her fondest dreams? Someone needs to tell Harry Potter that the Mirror of Erised has been illegally copied.

  • Okay, "SunShim," here's the thing about admitting that you have a problem with persistent anxiety: it needs to be shown to be persistent. You were, I'll admit, a little freaked out about how the magic you and our friends had was "changing" (even though it wasn't; its activation method was) during the Friendship Games, but by the time we saw you during Legend of Everfree, you seemed pretty well over worrying about magical mishaps. You certainly weren't freaking out about them during the last two specials.

  • Huh, so Sunset ran out of pages in her magical journal? Nice, that's a problem that doesn't seem to have an easy answer. Maybe we're going to see the end of that last link to Equestria? (As it turns out, not at all.)

  • Er, if Sunset just ran out of space, how is Twilight's reply appearing in the book? I'm just saying, if she ran out of room to write, then there's no place for Twilight's return text to appear.

  • Wait wait wait...the portal in the base of the ruined statue still works? I was sort of under the impression that when "Midnight" Sparkle smashed it, and then when we saw magic leaking from the ruined upper portion, that the portal itself was no longer active, or at least damaged. But it seems to be working just fine now...

  • Shimmy meets Glimmy! SHIMMY MEETS GLIMMY! SHIMMY MEETS GLIMMY! SQUEEEEEE!!!

  • There's so much to unpack in this scene! Watching Sunset try to readjust to having a pony body is hilarious! The problem of needing a new journal is solved and brilliantly acts as a reason for this scene to exist! The awkward conversation is so realistically awkward! Starlight is being her usual "go with your gut" self by wanting to go to the human world! So much excellence!

  • And it continues, albeit far too briefly, as we get to see Starlight try to adjust to being a human! Gallop on all fours, Starlight! Gallop for all you're worth!

  • Okay, calming down a bit, I'm going to be "that guy" for a moment and complain about the portal clothing and unclothing people who go through it so that they're appropriate for whatever universe they're in...apparently except for saddlebags/purses, etc. The fact that Starlight came out of the portal dressed in such a snappy outfit really made that aspect of it hard to ignore, and that's really the only way to-...you know what? Screw it. I'm just going to say "it does this because Star-Swirl built the portal that way, just to be convenient for whoever uses it" and be done with the whole thing.

  • Also, Sunset and Twilight have really been working the whole pen-pals thing, since Sunset apparently knows all about Starlight. Add into that how Starlight seems to have been briefed on Sunset, and even the human Mane Six know who Starlight is, and I'm a little amazed at just how freely the information is flowing. I know the video is time-limited and all, but it would have been nice to get some "getting to know each other" scenes, given how much fun Sunset and Starlight's was.

  • Come to think of it, why did Sunset mention that whole thing about "not having met you there, so you can probably come through"? Why is that a factor to begin with? We've seen Twilight meet Twilight, albeit very briefly, at the end of Friendship Games, and that seemed fine. Especially since the explanations that Princess Celestia and Twilight gave in the first two EQG movies, respectively, for why pony-Twilight's friends couldn't go with her were both rather lacking. And why hasn't she seen human-Starlight over there? Or for that matter, the native human-Sunset? Don't bring up these little details if you're not going to expound on them, Sunset!

  • Not to be greedy, but it would have been nice if Starlight had dropped a hint as to what, exactly, was the friendship problem that Twilight and co. was called away to solve. Usually the EQG movies drop a little reference like that (e.g. at the end of Friendship Games when pony-Twilight mentions being caught in a time-loop), so that we can know when in the main (mane?) series it's taking place. It's no big deal, but would have been nice, is all.

  • So Juniper's mirror is a wish-granting thing? I guess that fits with the whole "showing you what you want to be" part of it...and it's imprisoned the other girls, too. Huh, and that flash of light in her eyes makes it seem like it's driving Juniper crazy. Magic is really all over the place in EQG, it seems like.

  • Damn it, Pinkie, do not eat things you find lying on the ground!

  • Nice use of your geode power, Sunset!

  • I take it back. Way to get yourself zapped by the power that you just saw trap your friends, Sunset!

  • And the mirror is having some sort of reaction to the geodes, for no particular reason, and it's making Juniper literally ten feet tall, look like a (slightly monstrous) version of her fantasy-self, and hallucinate that she's a star. Yeah, this is really abusing the whole "it's magic, it doesn't have to make sense" trope.

  • I just realized something. The more recent EQG films have been pushing the idea of "too much magic drives you insane," but there's a subtle logic to it. Every villain that's from Equestria (i.e. Sunset and the Sirens) has been able to handle large amounts of magic without going mad. Everyone who's native to the human world, however, has lost their minds when they've tried to do the same thing. And of course, the Mane Seven don't because none of them is trying to use too much by themselves. Maybe we've found a rule underlying the apparent chaos?

  • Wow, you know what Juniper? Most villains have the speech delivered by the heroes as a complement to receiving a magical beat-down. You, on the other hand, were defeated by a speech alone, even though you had all the power and the magical mcguffin only worked for you. Given that your transformation looked ridiculous, and that all you did was trash a little bit of a mall, this is the cherry on your "worst MLP villain ever" sundae.

  • Pinkie's line about them being a "really forgiving group" is her brand of humor at (what I think is) its best. Like most jesters, she's in her element (which in this case is laughter) when she's directly pointing out the absurdities that everyone else leaves unsaid.

  • Wait, so is Juniper joining the group permanently now? I don't think so, but I confess that I'm not sure. If it could happen for Starlight, it can happen for her.

  • My heart leapt into my throat for a second when Sunset said that Twilight was telling Starlight she didn't need to come back right away. Could this be an extended crossover?! ...oh, wait, it's only "for a few days."

I'm 'amused' by the credits on the new movie poster. Funny, I thought Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball, Andrea Libman, Tabitha St. Geramain, and Cathy Weseluck were starring in this movie.

Yeah but they are not "big name stars" like the new characters;) But seriously Hasbro been doing stuff like that since the 80's with movies of their animated shows.

Umm... you mention the solution to the continuity problem later. Pony-Twi comes through the portal later on in that friendship games, so it was never broken, just damaged.

By Celestia I HOPE SO. Sunset and the Humane Six could find them working as cheerleaders for the Shadowbolts and after the arguing, revenge schemes, and eventual conflict, Sunset could redeem Adagio and her sisters by offering them a place for them to belong and her unconditional love. Later during the eventual pinkie pie redemption party, Adagio could kiss a surprised by pleased Sunset. :D

Given that they seem intent on making Equestria Girls into a franchise of its own, there's no reason why the Sirens couldn't come back.

Well, we just had the titles for 24, 25, and 26 drop:

Episode titles:
Episode 24, "Uncommon Bond" - Interesting title, but not sure what to make of it.

Episode 25-26, "Shadow Play" - There was press release that mentioned Twilight fighting the Pony of Shadows. Clearly, this is where it comes into play.

Was the press release about

spoiler:
Twilight vs the Pony of Shadows
from comic con or somewhere else?

It would be nice if the Sirens would come back ether in Equestria Girls and/or MLP.

I would really love to see Sunset Shimmer in the main series at least for a couple of episodes.

Personal head cannon is that the sirens and the wendigos are one and the same. The backstories are only marginally different, and that can easily be attributed to history becoming legend.

Doesn't seem to be any real new info coming out of Comic Con but Hascon(September 8-10) seems to have a lot of interesting stuff.

Took a look at the Season 7 part 2 teaser trailer.

Spoilers for Season 7 2nd half:
It looks like the Campfire Tales episodes will introduce all the legendary characters that are the focus of the Legends of Magic comic series.

It's interesting to see that they are actually tieing in the comics pretty heavily now..in a sideways fashion. Seems like they are attempting to use them as prequels to anything major event that happens in the show. But also making an attempt to not alienate anyone who isn't reading them.

Seeing as how there are rumors that speculate these characters will be the ones who took out the pony of shadows the first time around. I'd be willing to be that, now that we know the titles of the final 3 Episodes this will be the closest thing to a 3 parter finale that we've seen.

Uncommon Bond: I am willing to bet that this is going to be the story of how the LoM characters teamed up.

Shadow Play 1&2: and the inevitable contest between the mane6 (7?) and the Pony of Shadows. Maybe with the girls recalling the lessons from the LoM characters?

Should be an interesting 2nd half, really wondering what Hascon is going to show.

I am not a fan of the comics so I would prefer they be their own thing.

Some quick Googling turned that up; such a shame it's a con exclusive! :(

Looks like Rebecca Shoichet(Sunset Shimmer) won a People's Choice Award for her role in Legend of Everfree.

Took a look at the Season 7 part 2 teaser trailer.

Everything I have seen of season 7 has been, IMO, a huge step up story-wise, from season 6, and I personal thought that season 6 was better than most of the first three seasons (season 5 probably has some of my favorite episodes still, but season 7 has some strong contenders)

I do not doubt at all that what awaits us in the second half of the season may be some of the best material they have ever produced.

Personally I rank season 2 and 4 as the best so far. Seasons 5 and 6 have had some of worst episodes in the series. Seasons 5 and 6 didn't given us a new villain I actually liked at all but hopefully season 7's finale will change that.

Idk, Starlight was a truly devious villain, and I like that they redeemed her, but I thought it may have been a little rushed.
I agree that season's 5 and 6 had some bad episodes, but they had some amazing episodes as well, (times, they are a changling, while awkward at times, has a great moral, and some great character building, and slice of life is the episode that truly pulled me into the fandom; just to name a few)

Season 2 and 4 had some amazing episodes and really good season starters and finales.

As for Starlight Glimmer.

First two parter just felt like a rehash of the Legend of Kora's season one villain just not nearly as interesting. Plus I was already tired of evil and/or jerky unicorn characters. Besides if we are going to have another pony main villain then why not a pegasus (maybe with an army) or a earth pony (maybe with psychic powers or something) other then a unicorn or alicorn. Though I would still like to see Midnight Sparkle as a villain in the series one day.

Second two parter was a missed opportunity to me. I would have love seeing Starlight's plans work but the new timeline would have an evil Twilight(Might Sparkle) the ruler of Equestria and would put Starlight through the ringer. Starlight realizing she has made a terrible mistake is the one to correct the timeline. She would learn a lesson but not automatically say lets be friends.

One thing I have noticed is the series seems to have less adventures, less cool monsters, and a lot more tea parties. It's like they are going backwords to the original series.

As for main villains I would really like to see...

-An evil dragon
-A group of griffins(criminals, former soldiers, etc.)
-A trio of different monsters(one land, one sea, and one air)
-Another old school villain(Katrina)
-Earth pony with special power(s)(telekinesis, super strength, etc.)
-Pegasus Warlord(with army)

Just asking - is the the place to ask about the upcoming MLP:FiM movie, or does that need its own thread over on the "Movies" forum?

Like, has anyone here seen any of the released trailers for it? And if so what did they think of them?

I'd say here is probably as good as anywhere. In fact a link to the trailer is a few posts up above.

Honestly I don't know what to think about the style yet. I like the more detailed expressions, but the CGI render on the ship and buildings is not really that great. I am interested in seeing where they go with the story, it sounds very different than anything they have done before.

I like it so far and hope the movie is good and makes money. As for the CGI render on the ship, it looks like it wasn't finished. They just announced that the movie was finished a couple of days ago.

I am disappointed that Fluttershy, Rarity, and Applejack didn't even get any lines in the trailer. Maybe another trailer will remedy this. If we get another trailer anyway.

If I had anything to complain about it's the lack marketing for this movie. Not a single person has seen the trailer in theaters and there have been at least 2 animated movies that have come out since the trailer dropped.

This is probably the place; the "Movies" forum might technically be more appropriate, but I don't think that anyone will have a problem with it.

That said, please remember to use the spoiler tags when discussing the content of the movie. Since this is, strictly speaking, about the TV show, it's better to be cautious than to ruin someone else's enjoyment of the movie months before it comes out, particularly when it's so easy to add the tags in a post.
