I have to ask. What's up with Legendary Games?

Just curious, that's all. When TotM came out, I thought the next releases would come out in succession in the following weeks. The last updates in various threads stated maybe the end of the week. That was a few weeks ago. Not a complaint, just anxious for the next batch of legendary goodness.

I'd venture to guess their stable of writers are tied up on other projects (I know Spicer is) since many of them are active Paizo writers, as well. Getting use of their time could be an issue for the company.

For good or ill, Legendary Games isn't any of our bread and butter job, which means that when things stack up "at work" for any of us, that means things like this get kicked to the back burner. We have had a few bottlenecks develop as we are getting the project off the ground, seeing what works well and what works not as well, so hopefully as we build that system architecture for how we do things future releases will roll out much faster from beginning to end.

Really, though, it comes down to a high emphasis on quality and value. If we're going to call this thing Legendary Games, we want what you get to be awesome! We certainly regret that we were not able to roll out a whole batch of CC-related material at once, which was what we were originally hoping to do, but we are absolutely committed to making sure that every thing we send your way will knock your socks off!

So please bear with us, and continue looking forward to the next batch. It *IS* coming, that much I know. I just got an email from Tim Wickham, our layout guy, yesterday on his progress on the Murmuring Fountain and Fiddler's Lament mini-adventures.

When can you get it? Ummm... SOON! How soon? The mo soona, the mo betta!

From what we've seen of the preview material, i'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

Oh absolutely. Im using TotM in my Carrion Crown campaign and its working out great. Can't wait for the NPCs and the mini adventures to throw in there too.

Thanks Jason for the update. I know you guys are swamped with projects, and the Legendary Games threads kind of went dead in the past few weeks. I guess I was just looking to hear something from guys. Keep up the good work!

That's the plan. :)

I understand - I have a day job that constantly interferes with my life...but one of the supremely attractive aspects of Legendary Games was that its products were geared to support Paizo's adventure paths. Playing in a Gothic Horror campaign, we got your extras! But now we're practically half way through a Ninja/Viking campaign...I would give you money hand over fist if you could squeeze more than 24 hours out of a day.

I think, if they somehow managed to fit in more than 24 hours in a day, they wouldn't have to worry about getting paid to write RPG material ;)

This poses an interesting point: how many people run an AP as soon as it comes out and follow the print schedule in their own games?

I know from my own past spending habits that I am only likely to buy one full AP every 18-24 months. I've just started playing through Carrion Crown, and haven't even touched Kingmaker yet.

But from a third party publisher's standpoint, how long could you wait after an AP is released to do supplemental material for it before it becomes stale? Is it preferable to let the entire AP be printed before formulating ideas to ensure you don't inadvertently create something that conflicts with the official product, or is it still worth it to take a gamble and wing it, releasing something to coincide with each chapter of an AP as it comes out?

Our own amateur research indicates that not everyone does. After all, anyone who's running even one of Paizo's adventure paths is unlikely to have the time, resources, or players to run another simultaneously. Thus, by the time they finish the first one, Paizo has likely released another...and maybe more than one, depending on how often a particular gaming group gets together.

In addition, even if a group does jump on an AP as soon as it comes out, it's entirely possible that GM might run it again for a different group...or even some members of the same group. So, the beauty of the APs is that they have a fairly good shelf life. At least, so far as we've been able to discern. And you don't have to look any further than the various AP forums here on the Paizo messageboards, or even the Play-by-Post games being carried out here. Some people are still playing Rise of the Runelords and Curse of the Crimson Throne.

Hence, by the time we release material for Kingmaker, maybe you'll just be getting into it.

Considering Paizo is about to re-release Rise of the Runelords as a hardcover compilation with updated material to the Pathfinder rules, I don't think any of the APs have become stale yet. Even the older ones have the potential to be re-invigorated by Paizo, much less Legendary Games or another 3PP.

It's a fine line to walk. But, since three of us at Legendary Games write pretty consistently for Paizo's APs, we can form a few ideas before the full AP is released. Doesn't mean we'll rush product out the gate to coincide directly with it, though. The developers at Paizo have the ultimate say in how things get put together for the final product. So, it's still worth waiting a bit and making sure we don't duplicate an idea that'll already have the full treatment in the AP itself.

But that's just my two cents,

Im glad you guys wait for good products I personally wont run an AP till all 6 books are out, so I can read them all and understand what the plan over the entire course is

Legendary Games, Necromancer Games

Thanks for checking in everyone. The "problem" is that Legendary Games is a secondary project for me. My "day job" for those of you who know is very, very time consuming. It sometimes cuts into my available Legendary Games time. In fact, designing smaller products is a specific goal of LG because the freelancers on the design team are also very, very busy with their main freelance writing gigs. So all of us encounter down periods where our primary duties interfere with LG. Its all part of the plan. My last two months in my day job have been super busy and have taken me out of town multiple times for days on end.

Thanks for everyone's interest. But we are just fine and plugging along nicely. That is why we dont announce fixed release dates since we dont want to announce them and miss them. Rest assured, we will (and already have) put out awesome stuff and when its ready it will be released. Stay tuned!

I'm losing my touch...

I did not mean to imply there was a problem with Legendary Games release schedule other than I am impatient!

And I agree that as I enter into a game session I look for relevant supporting material so any AP Themed product will eventually draw my attention. However, with regards to Bang for the Buck, it would seem to my economics-challenged brain that your best chance for a surge in sales would be while the AP is in focus. I want you to be successful so you'll keep it up!
