I half-remember a spell, maybe from 1st or 2nd edition, that would allow you to summon a willing person to you if you had some of their hair/blood/etc or something that was very important to them. I haven't been able to find anything like that on the modern spell lists, can anyone think of a spell that works like this? If not, can you give some ideas about what a spell to do this should look like in terms of level, material components, etc?

It was probaably some obscure 3rd party work. There was a Forgotten Realms wizard named Darsoom who created a spell called Summon Darsoom. He didn't let it circulate that much, especially since while he could refuse the summon, the spell contained his truename.
There was a Clerical spell that you could enchant a gem and give it to someone and when it was crushed the cleric would have the option of either summoning you or 'porting to your side. I think it was called Succor.

That was probably it, thank you.
My PC was transported to another plane that is loosely connected to our prime plane and occasionally pulls people through one-way. His life was saved by one of the locals who had been there for about 20 years but would still like to go home someday. We parted ways as the party left town for somewhere quite dangerous, and I was searching my memory for a way to bring him back to the prime material plane when (if?) we find our way home.
It looks like my best bet is going to be looking up a powerful conjurer and making a deal of some sort... just another plot-hook for the DM!
