Barry and I were just talking about that last night actually. I think the answer is an unabashed yes, but the problems would be technical ones as I have never done an interview. I am assuming skype would be the way to go but have never used it myself. Still, technical problems are just things waiting for me to learn and overcome...

How can I best in contact with you?

EDIT: Scratch that, I found the email at your website, is the Steve one the correct address?

Just listened to eps 3 to 5. Great stuff and looking foward to Ep 6 and onwards.

Have you touched base with D20 Radio? Dave and Chris would love to have another podcast join the D20 family and there are a lot of fledgling casters who got their start there. I don't think you need to actually do anything perse - they just link your show, give you space on their forums etc.

Could increase your listener base some and give access to some resources.

#Corrections :-)

The armoured kilt is not the one worn by Scottish Highlanders... its the hardened leather skirt (some times with metal plates) worn in the Iron Age Mediterranean.. the kind of thing you see on Roman officers and in gladiator movies.

Still all good - keep up the good work.

My initial intent was to approach d20 Radio, but after listening to their podcasting panel from GenCon on Chronicles (great show), they indicated that they now look for podcasts that have at least 5 shows. So, I was going to hit that mark, then approach them.

Before that could happen though I was approached by Ryan at 3.5 Private Sanctuary about having a home on their gaming shelf alongside other great podcasts like 3.5 Private Sanctuary, Know Direction, and Dwarfed. So you can now find us over there at www.35sanctuary.com, would love to have any and all of you stop by!

I certainly imagine more as the strapped style skirt you see pictures of with Romans and their breastplates... but for some reason it is just fun to talk about the Scottish and kilts.

Still, you are correct.

Scarab Sages

I've listened to the first three episodes and am enjoying the podcast so far. I like that you guys break down the mechanics of how things work with and against each other. You've been added to the small list of gaming podcasts for my evening commute :)

Sweet! Thanks.

Ahh cool bananas :-) I can imagine kilt wearing Dwarves sewing hardened leather under their tartan.

Great podcast, I listened to a few last night. Keep them coming.

I feel like a jerk saying this, but I couldn't finish the dipping episode (which was awesome), because the word is pronounced Ark-Type. It was disorienting to hear Arch-Type over and over, but don't take that the wrong way, you guys do great work.

Sorry it was disconcerting for you. That is probably the single largest bit of feedback we have gotten. We will be fixing it in the future episodes, but we already had a few recorded... still, the others after that one will not feature the word so prominently.

When would we see the next 'cast go up?

Helaman wrote:

I really should get a set schedule for which day of the week I get these up.

Let's do this. The finaly schedule will be a weekly release on Fridays.

However, if Wait until this week on Friday it will be a long wait as the last one was released last tuesday.

So as a transition to the final schedule, I will release the next episode, The Gamers' Guide to Skinning, This Wednesday (9/28) and then the one after on Friday (10/7).

At the risk of shooting myself in the foot and also getting death threats from your growing listenership I suggest have a think about what is a 'sustainable' rate for your podcasts.

I am a big fan of 3.5 Private Santuary because they are pretty darn reliable but they only get 1 PF cast out every 4-5 weeks and their banner podcast twice a month.

BUT they are regular.

HPPodcast is a weekly cast that I set my calendar by.

Love them.

I like Order 66 but they are re-finding their rhythm post Gencon and I am not sure when they'll pop something out (yay for today) and its a bit nuts to jump on 3 times a week to see whats happening.

I don't complain at them (much) but its nicer when you know whats happening.

Chronicles? Those guys make an awesome show and I love it... when, errr, you know its out there. Used to be once a month, now its more like every 6 weeks.

Their show is as meaty as a butcher shop - great stuff but I can't help thinking if they did just a little less with it they could get out the show at 2+ hours an ep and once a month... heck they could do a mini show once a month (30-45 mins) on builds etc if they still wanted.

As it is, its like 4+ hours a show but if something goes wrong in ALL that recording then the whole thing goes byebye for another few weeks.

One of my favourite podcasts to be sure but its ambition and its weight slow it down.

The point?

Aim for twice a month if you can do it rather than weekly. If you can do weekly? Put a few shows in the can for a rainy day when one of you is sick or for convention season etc... if you get too far ahead? Call one a 'Special' and release it early.

As an audience we pay nothing for your incredible hard work (that also goes out to all the shows I just mentioned) and you get little apart from whatever fun you have in doing the show but we are whinny little b***hes as a rule and get "funny" when a show doesn't come out on the perceived schedule.

Ask Steelwind how he and the others feel when listeners are on their case.

At that point the show stops being fun and thats not cool for you... and ultimately, if you quit, not cool for us either.

First and foremost, I am very happy to think of my growing listenership as a rabid, loyal mob. This makes me giggle with glee.

Really, really good point... and one which we talked about a lot before deciding on the 1/wk current rate. We currently have 2 episodes in the can ready to go (well, one still needs to be edited), so getting ahead is where we already are.

The main reason I went with once per week is actually ties back to the reason we decided to do the podcast in the first place... we wanted to cut back on how much we spend talking and geeking out on the game. It was making the wifes pretty mad.

For us, getting together once or twice a week is less than we had been. If we could, we probably would game instead, but it is a lot easier for us to get 2-3 hours at night after the kids have gone to bed to meet and record than to get a group of people together on a more sporadic basis (though we do have two 1/month games going that we play or run).

Anyway... I am thinking two in the can will be good and I am going to try and not fall behind on that, but if we have to we have that buffer. Additionally I think it likely that we will get ahead.

Like you said, as long as we keep our schedule of regular episodes I don't think anyone would complain if we slipped a few more out here and there.

Another consideration with a podcast is back episodes. In my opinion, I am a lot happier with a podcast if I find it, like it, and then realize there is a large back library for me to listen to as well... but we still need to build that back library, and I don't think we are running short of topics any time soon.

Again, you do make a really good point and it is certainly possible that in the future we could have to change to another schedule, but even with our busy lives at the moment we both find it works to make the time to do the podcast at this pace.

Very cool podcast guys. With so many new options for PF being released all the time - its excellent to have a well researched and thorough overview to listen to. Keep them coming and I'll keep listening.

Thanks!

We will have one going up on Friday that will cover the Vehicle rules presented in UC breifly (they are pretty straight forward, so we don't dwell much on them) and the Caravan rules from the players guide to Jade Regent in depth with a build suggestion.

Following that should be Player Types and then a discussion on Words of Power (really excited about that one).

Colour me interested.

The shorter format worked for the last cast on Skinning but I think it would have been better if you had taken an encounter from one of the APs or PFS modules and painted how it could be made completely different with skinning - throwing in a concrete comparison so you could do a side by side.

That said, I laughed myself silly for a while about reskinning a horse as some sort of mutant clubbing biting creature... and when the players asked just what the hell was that 'thing' tell them they just fought a horse.

Grand Lodge

You'll move the format to twice a month now moving forward?

Subscribed, really good stuff you guys, kudos and keep the ball rolling.

I know... I suck... my bad... lol

Barry and I co-hosted an episode of 3.5 Private Sanctuary (blv it is planned for episode 180, tentatively should be dropping on Monday) but had some sound issues. I then used the time I had set aside for editing to work on scrubbing Barry's sound file to try and make it usable again. Long story short, I gave up time I had set aside to get my podcast on time and am now late.

I am hoping to have it up later today. We already have the next one recorded as well and I will definitely have this one edited early for release on time (was a good one, on Words of Power).

Sorry! I will get this once a week, on time thing down though.

Just my 2c but i think you should do an in depth analysis of all the archetypes - 1 class per episode. there are so many and so many of them seem to be TRAPS - like avoid at all costs. its put the fear of god in me when creating a new character. i'd rather avoid archetypes completely and go with the core class as originally designed and balanced. it'd be super helpful! keep up the great work guys.

Actually thats not entirely bad as an idea.

That said 3.5 private sanctuary did pretty much a shake down of every class already as have most gaming podcasts related to D&D of its various incarnations.

Order 66 did some great shows on the 5 base classes and the many many PrC's so it can work.

Depending on how it is done it can be a triumph or a flop. Throw in some commentary of traits and feats to keep an eye out for in each class archetype and I think you've got some solid shows or at least long segments.

generaltwig wrote:

It is definitely on the table for things we plan to do. It's more of a question of when and how, rather than if we will do it.

Honestly the biggest problem I see isn't having enough to go over, but rather having too much to go over.

Taking the wizard for example... do you know how long I could go off on spells for? That could be a two part episode in and of itself!!!

But, we could hit highlights, cover archetypes, etc... should be pretty doable.

Does take a little more prep than we sometimes do though as we don't want it to sound like the page flipping craziness our first episodes on firearms did.

Speaking of which... those episodes cover the gunslinger and it's archetypes pretty thoroughly.
