Thought those were intended for Warforged as a replacement to their regular hands...

I just don't understand why you would not want to use knuckles, or handwraps that are imbued with magic to bypass hardness (forget what this is at the moment)? How many sane people do you know that want to cut their own hands off to replace them with something else???

Again I am sorry if I was not being clear, I was under the impressionism that wraps/brass knuckles would not work. i made a mistake in that, i was just bored at work, and thought this would make a humorous/interesting discussion. i was not trying to offend any one with my crazy ideas , it was more conjecture than fact.

My, you are arrogant. Elevating yourself above your fellow players, claiming knowledge over what a proper facepalm is. Put that on top of your rabid monk fandom, and I'm quite certain I can't take you seriously at all.

if your going to insult me just do it properly. is all i ask and you dont have to take me seriously, i am known to be flippant, and whimsical

I was not intending to be arrogant, just prefer to be insulted properly and well.

Make note that I never said I was going to insult you. ;)

I think that's fair enough. I'm hardly one to complain about outrageously flippant comments after all! No apology needed, but gladly accepted.

Intentionally cutting off your hands (which aren't damaged or worthless etc) to get robot hands is insane. No Lawful aligned being would consider it, hell most nuetral or chaotic beings would. It's just plain risky and painful.

Now beyond all that, if your issue is "Fighters get adamantite sword at level 4 why can't I?" well then your argument stops working. Monks have temple swords in pathfinder, They are effectively longswords that can trip. They also can be made of adamantite. You can flurry with them. No need to cut your hands off. With alternatives such as knuckles, enchanted wraps, and adamantite kamas, temple swords and the like, still deciding you want golem fists is the talk of an insane character. I know if I were a wizard or crafter and a guy walked in and said "cut off my hands and graft on adamantite golem fists so I can break things easier" and I replied "What about these adamantite items I have for sell instead?" and they still said "Nope, cut off these hands please" I'd mark him up as a lunatic and send him on his way.

I Dont like to use any other weapon than unarmed strike,

and in a world of fantasy and talking badgers, is this any more crazy than, geb? or nex? or a gorilla king who rules a jungle city with his monkey men.

just curious why do you think form an alignment point of view, why would no lawful being consider this?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Ha! You all act like adamantite just falls out of the sky or something.

This sounds like awesome NPC stuff.

GM: He punches you in the face...

Player 1: Barfight!

Player 2: Oh, it is on! I grab a beer botle and flip over a table.

GM: ...with his flaming adamantine fists.

Players: What?!

GM: You take 14 points of damage. Roll initiative.

Players: What?!

Scarab Sages

I think it is a fine idea and would make an excellent adventure in getting it done. You wouldn't lose your sense of touch with magic metal hands, they're *magic*.
Monk wraps and brass knuckles work fine too.
How about a adamantine liquid that you dip your hands into. Again, magical... Say it lasts a month per "dose".
People in real life do strange things/body modifications and society thinks they are weird. I agree with it being not insane in a magical world.
One path of thought is a monk should be self sufficient and not rely on equipment. Replacing hands and/or feet isn't that far a stretch.

Honestly I have issues believing any sane person would do this for no other reason than to have metal hands. Only an insane person would turn away sane ways to do things and go for the most crazed and painful path. If you wanted a metal hand and had lost an arm is one thing, but to just cut your hands off is crazy.

If you want to do it work with your DM because he/she si the one who's going to say yes or no. I'm not gonna debate alignment with you or how much this is crazy talk, no amount of reason will change a persons mind if it's been made up. On a related note magic metal hands are cool, so you got that going for ya!

they do have animated undead hands, what if you had an admantine version of that, and if you animated them you had to make a will save every attack or attack your self like in evil dead 2 it woudl be a true test of wills a path to discipline

Why does it need to be hands? Monk's flurry with any part of there body. Chop off a foot and replace that, much easier.

Spoiler:
The act of placing one’s face in one’s hands, or “facepalming” is a gesture of nonverbal-communication common among many cultures. The action conveys a message of dismay and is often a reaction toward someone’s momentary lapse of logic, judgement, or memory. This reaction may be directed toward another person or be self-deprecating.

I hope you were being "flippant and whimsical" about this, because I'm about to *facepalm* from your *facepalm*. Maybe I should be talking to this guy.

I like the idea of a admantine head band. Surgical head plate, bandana? would this be less crazy? than chopsaw and robo fists?

Ok, so your reason for not wanting to use anything but unarmed attacks?

Monks have used weapons for hundreds of years. So why don't you?

There was a scarred lands monk prestige class, IIRc, that transformed themselves into beings of living metal.

Insulted? No, dumbfounded is a bit more accurate. What I am noticing is that a bit more reading of the Core Rulebook might answer these questions before they are asked. Though I could see this as a solution if the character lost his hands during the course of play in a fight or something.

Can you turn a <rolls eyes> into a martial maneuver?

That would be good.

Maybe your expression of pitiful disdain fills them with the urge to psychosomatically self-harm, which you can trigger in a later round, via a shake of the head and a 'T'choh!' dealing the same effect as the Quivering Palm?

clarify: while dropping to ones knees you have your hand up to your face!

that is where the confusion comes from.

Monks are a versatile and awesome class that don't need to do a lot of damage to be effective. It's a nice side effect, but it isn't the primary thing to be doing on the battlefield. Tripping, grappling, and flanking are top goals. You'll do damage doing that and have awesome control.

Also, not trying to be a stinky-poo, but I would say doing this is EXACTLY like getting a sword grafted to your hand...except you can't flurry with the sword, making it lame and weak. You'd also have to take a feat as a proficiency.

I do however like the idea of a prestige that MAKES you metal. That I could see working out.

no worries this was more of a " is this possible by raw" post that something i really want to do, it did happen to me once though.

Dark Archive

This has gone on this long and no one has mentioned Godhand?

More seriously, I have no inherent objection to the idea. They would be fantastically expensive, utterly unique, require special treatment to ensure that the monk could use them as though they were his or her own limbs, and dramatically increase the potential for unique and memorable characterization.

But I never want something like replacement arms to see print because, as someone who also did some cyberpunk gaming once, I do not want to see characters deliberately pursuing aggressive body-replacement modification for stat gain. At least not in common play.

would it be world breaking to get a admantine mask/ or a surgical steel plate in my players forehead?

I believe it was in the Player's guide to monks, fighters and barbarians. Since I got my books stolen, I can't reference it when I get home.

What type of sensible monk would physically alter themselves in such a way that was painful and not natural? I thought monks were about heightening and enlightening the body and mind naturally.

Easiest way to lose your fists?

Amulet of Mighty Fists with the Throwing property. Bonus points if you fire off them guns at someone with Snatch Arrows. Just for the love of the gods, DO NOT TRY TO HEADBUTT ANYTHING AT A DISTANCE. The Crafter said you need Returning before you try that!

Yeah, I know:
that that can't be made by RAW (IIRC). Didn't stop me from trying in an Eberron game! ROCKET PUNCH!
