Is minotaur attack and damage incorrect?

I don’t recall using minotaurs before and I’ve found some issues with the Bestiary entry.

Why would a minotaur use powerful charge? The attack does 2d6+6 damage while the greataxe it wields does 3d6+6. Seems like the charge should do gore +10 (3d6+6 damage) for triple damage. [BAB +6] + [Str bonus +4] equals +10 to attack.

Minotuar as listed:
powerful charge (gore +11, 2d6+6)

My version (refigured attack math and triple damage [Str +4 x3 as it is no longer a secondary attack] plus [1d6 die of damage x3]:
powerful charge (gore +10, 3d6+12)
powerful charge (gore +8, 3d6+16) with Power Attack

Also, the math seems off for a minotaur’s normal attacks and for the attack for charging gore (as noted above).

Minotaur as listed:
Greataxe +9/+4 (3d6+6/×3) and gore +4 (1d6+2)

My calculations show:
Greataxe +10/+5 (3d6+6/×3) and gore +5 (1d6+2)
Greataxe +8/+6 (3d6+12/×3) and gore +3 (1d6+4) with Power Attack.

With a greataxe: [BAB of +6/+1] + [Str bonus +4/+4]. Gore is [BAB of +6] + [secondary -5] + [Str bonus +4] equals +5. Damage is correct at 3d6+6 for axe and 1d6+2 for gore.

Greataxe with Power Attack is -2 to hit and +6 damage for greataxe and +2 for secondary gore. Damage is axe 3d6+12 and gore damage is 1d6+4.

Am I missing something in the math? I’m using the second printing version of the Bestiary.

It's the -1 to attack due to being a large creature.

And the powerful charge appears to have the +2 to attack for charging added in.

You're missing the -1 to hit due to the minotaur's Large size.

When you include that, all listed statistics are correct.

And, yes -- the minotaur is better off charging with the greataxe rather than the gore attack, even with the extra 1d6 damage from Powerful Charge.

It's interesting that they reduced its gore attack to that of a Medium rather than a Large creature.

You forget the size modifier. the Mino is Large and so it has a negative 1 to attacks. that is why your math is coming up wrong. I also agree that powerful charge doesnt seem to be a good option with gore, and as stated in earlier the gore damage is off. here is the paizo chart on gore damage based on size

Gore:

Fine......Dim......Tiny......Small....Med......Large....Huge....Gar

1..........1d2......1d3......1d4......1d6...... 1d8......2d6....2d8

Col....Dmg Type...Attack Type
4d6..... P ....... Primary

The mino should have a gore dmg 1d8 and so dmg should be 2d8 for powerful charge.

Thanks. Knew I had to be missing something.

Looks like powerful charge is just assigned a number for damage.I'm thinking 3d8 + 12 sounds about right (triple damage for a Large creature with Str 19 charging as a primary attack).

Liberty's Edge

Whether it's wrong or not, I'm kind of grateful for Powerful Charge being a bit weaker than the greataxe (Powerful Charge did 4d6+bonuses back in 3.5.) My players have been dealing with a lot of minotaurs lately and the lesser damage of the charge or gore gives me an attack option to use when the creatures are pulling their punches. The two clans of minotaurs they're dealing with aren't necessarily trying to kill the PCs but they are, for lack of a better word, bullies. Aheh heh.

Charging and goring are less likely to kill but still do enough damage to let the PCs know the minotaurs could kill them if that was their goal.
