Went to create a set of dragonhide full plate today. Was going to stop by a nearby town to pick up some choice dragon scales for the project, but my wizarding friend told me not to bother, just to use the choice dragon scales from his spell component pouch.

Considering the pouch holds a theoretically infinite amount of dragon scales, odds are, you will eventually pull enough choice scales (even if most are crap) for a suit of armor.
I'm sure the armor will require other components though, like string, sewing needles, and leather backing. I wonder if there are any spells that can provide those.
I hope this is one of your theoretical/fun postings, and nobody in your group really tried this.
:P

You're really outdoing yourself with that one...
*sucks in helium*
We'd like to welcome you to, the lolipop guild....
Those scales aren't good enough to be armor. They're not the enormous, thick plates you need to make full plate, that's why dragon-scale armor has to come off of a dragon much larger than the armor wearer.

next you buy an empty pouch, insert half your component pouch and put it in there and you've just created a second component pouch for free, as half of infinity is still infinity.
If your GM allowed that scenario it's his own fault if munchkinism propagates at your table.
However it is really hard to believe your GM allowed that. (not that you said he did)
If it were me, I would allow it under the rule that from that moment on the wizard has to account for every single spider leg or bison hair in his pouch.

Funny what fools love to play ultra-high INT casters...
What is the name of the armor: Dragon HIDE Armor. Not Dragon SCALE Armor.
Scales have squat to do with it. Just like you need the actual HIDE of a Rhino to make Rhino Hide Armor, you need the HIDE of a Dragon to make Dragonhide Armor... NOT the Rhino´s guard hairs, or dandruff, or the Dragon´s scales. There can be a Dragon that in fact doesn´t have scales, and it´s HIDE is just as suitable to make Dragonhide Armor.
This type of fool shows up to my game, I´d be happy to let their characters waste crafting time and money to make what amount to regular leather armor with sequins. I´d even be nice and bump the AC by 1. Probably would have a hard time selling it though... except to a drama troupe maybe, though they wouldn´t pay for magic enhancements.
Quandary |
Oh yeah... I´d bump the AC by 1. But when they are hit by Bludgeoning Crits, the Scale sequins would fall off and they would gain the Nauseated Condition from inhaling a cloud of them. Of course, such brave experimenters would be proud of such a thing, and would dare try to complain, since that may draw further bad luck from the Gods... ;-)

I would then design several such suits of armor and gift them to my enemies. *evil grin*

Another word: Trolling. :P
(As RD has elsewhere said he's fond of doing.)
I have never once stated that I was fond of trolling, only of furthering discussion (by playing devil's advocate or using other established conversational means).
I have been known to lose my cool and go on a rant from time to time, but that's not the same thing as trolling (which implies the intent to cause trouble). Causing trouble is NEVER my intent.
I don't mind having a "reputation" for bringing up odd discussions, weird ideas, or arguing something that no one else would--being an eccentric in other words--but I will never tolerate being called a troll.

Components V, S, M (a tiny piece of matter of the same sort of item you plan to create with minor creation)
It's all in there.

So I could pull out almost any kind of matter? Cool! :P
(And if it isn't clear yet, this whole thread was meant to be in jest.)

Jest or not, that's the error right there.
A spell component pouch isn't anywhere stated as having 'theoretically infinite' anything - it's just assumed to have what you need to cast your spells... not including stuff which costs, or stuff too big to fit in there in the first place - I'd say that 'infinite' material is too big to fit in the pouch.. but maybe that's just me? ;P

A wizard Did it... Now does it make sense? :P

I'm pretty sure the rule is if anyone gets angry that makes you a troll. Or something like that. Btw is there anything edible in the pouch?

"Dragon hide armour should be free"
If by free, you mean free as in free action, then yes.
Free Action: Free actions consume a very small amount of time and effort. You can perform one or more free actions while taking another action normally. However, there are reasonable limits on what you can really do for free, as decided by the GM.

Free action to make? Free action to don or remove? Free action to use?
The last one would be problematic as it has been clarified on these boards that (except for speaking) you cannot use free actions when it isn't your turn.
Sorry, your dragonhide only protects you against attacks of opportunity made against you on your turn. :P

GOD I F***ING HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE USE THIS DEFINITION FOR TROLLING. WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO UNDER A ROCK AND DIE SINCE YOU CLEARLY WILL NEVER LEARN THE ENGLISS LANGAGE, TROLL!!!!
Also, minor creation has you covered for all your bite-sized munchies needs. Just be sure the hors d'oeuvre and amuse-bouche sections of the component pouch are kept separate from the guano and animal bits sections.

Actually an interesting question!
How do those Dragon scales get in the pouch, despite no one seeing a Dragon in ages, and even if they had, your dude never met/fought/paid for any Dragon scales... so how?
Well we see this more same phenomenon in the real world.
Its like when you have a HUGE night out on the booze and then throw up; how did that carrot get there? Notice that the body seemingly can produce an infinite supply of carrot, regardless of whether you remember eating one since 2004?
But like the Dragon scale/Dragonhide armour debate, no matter how many pristine chunks of carrot I could pick out, I could never assemble a whole carrot out of them.
Hope that helps.

RD if you keep posting like one, get used to wearing the label. You tend to post extreme or idiotic questions like this one when you KNOW the spell component pouch is a handwave for components of no particular value. (and yes dragon scales are in that category)
