This is the OOC discussion thread for the third episode of the Adventures of Teyth and Rhaegar (and Leda (aka Ledo), Verrin, Waynab, and Ahmose).
Each stat begins at 8.
A stat of 9 costs 1 point.
A stat of 10 costs 2 points.
A stat of 11 costs 3 points.
A stat of 12 costs 4 points.
A stat of 13 costs 5 points.
A stat of 14 costs 6 points.
A stat of 15 costs 8 points.
A stat of 16 costs 10 points.
A stat of 17 costs 13 points.
A stat of 18 costs 16 points.
Don’t forget that you get a free +1 to any stat at 4th level and another at 8th.
You start with 33,000gp worth of equipment. Races are core only, and feats/prestige classes/spells/equipment are allowed from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook and APG, the Complete series, and the Compendia. If you want anything else, you have to check it with me by email beforehand. Yes, that includes Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat (when it comes out) and other Paizo non-core sources. No cheese builds, please, and no base classes other than Pathfinder ones. Do not roll your hitpoints, instead use the following algorithm:
The class you are taking a level in has dX hit-dice
For first level, you get X+con hp
For even levels you get (X/2)+1+con hp
For odd levels (other than one) you get (X/2)+con hp
Those of you who played in the previous episodes, please check that your existing characters match these rules. Feel free to rebuild as much as you want, but please try to keep your characters as true to the original concept as possible.
Gerlari is a savage, primal world, and is, socially, far more medieval than the typically renaissance setting of D&D games. Think LotR humans, but with more plate armor and a lot more magic. If you want to be a swashbuckler, that’s fine, but expect some strange looks from NPCs. Each island has one—or more—ruler (whether they take the title, of King, Earl, Baron, Caliph, Sea-Lord…), and they are in a constantly shifting net of war, intrigue, alliances, betrayal, subservience, and the like. Adventuring parties such as yours are common, and to be an adventurer is considered an honorable profession, roving the world in search of fame and fortune. Most “nobles” do not have standing armies per se, but may keep one or more such adventuring groups on retainer to fight off monsters, wage war on their enemies, or retrieve magical treasures for them.
A timeline of the events so far. Some of this has been retconned from previous backstories.
~12,000 years ago: Teythandraskahar was built and scrapped
~16 years ago: Teyth awakens. After walking along the seabed for about 5 months, he climbed an anchor chain onto a pirate ship owned by MacPhail of the Thousand Axes. He sailed with them, and then with another pirate crew, and then as an adventurer over the next seven years, before being marooned on an island whose name is in notes I cannot find, shortly before:
~9 years ago: Episode 2, Part One: Attack of the Crabmen: Ahmose, Verrin, and Waynab discover that the overly agressive crabmen are on drugs. They kill the drug dealers, then all the crabs. Ahmose falls n battle, but they meet, and are joined by, Teyth.
~3 days later: Episode 2, Part Two: The Aeon's Warning: Verrin, Waynab, an Teyth are accosted by a strange telepathic being while hunting. It delivers several cryptic visions, including one of Rhaegar.
~3 weeks later: The three meet Rhaegar, who has just acquired a ship. Verrin and Waynab interpret the visions as suggesting they should avoid this fellow, and GTFO, but Teyth assumes he needs to stay with him, and so he starts following him around.
~4 months later: Episode 1: R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Teyth, Rhaegar, and Leda/Ledo find themselves marooned on the island of Afturábak and kill a bunch of Dyrith without understanding their motives and I'm not bitter at all.
~Now: Newcomers are either on Rhaegar's ship or Waynab's. You can decide before the game starts.
One final note: Please refrain from discussing the visions from Ep2Pt2 on this thread or anywhere else not in character. If your memories of that session are hazy, good, because that means your character's are as well. Which makes sense, cause it was 9 years ago rather than just 5 months.

Interested for this as well.
I'm thinking about rolling a witch. I haven't read about the world backstory too carefully, but given the whole archipelago approach, I could be from some tribe on one of the islands where my witchcraft would be ritualistic.
I'll give this more thought when I can get around to it.
Verrin
I need to finish tweaking gear after my computer crash-induced rebuild, but I'm almost ready!
Also, I've tweaked Verrin's age up to reflect the time skip.
Given that Verrin had the GTFO-inducing vision of Rhaegar, I don't think she would want to be near him. As such, she will likely have just reunited with her favorite pyromaniac gnomish captain, Waynab.
Also, you aren't very convincing at "not being bitter at all."

Hey, MB here again.
I'm gradually working on building my witch, and I have a few questions for DM Masta JC
1) Spell Selection: If I want to expand my spellbook beyond the default spells, do we assume that for each spell I bought a scroll and went through the familiar teaching ritual? If so, I will take this into account with my starting equip.
2) Choose your Patron Theme! I'm interested in the Enchantment Patron from UM and think that it fits my idea of Xeran the most. Would you allow this DM? I wouldn't take from anything else in UM aside from the patron spells associated with the Enchantment Patron theme.

1) As long as they are still from the witch's spell list, that fine. But roll the Spellcraft check for each one (using your 8th level modifier is fine), so that there's a chance of some failing, though if they do you just buy another copy of that scroll.
2)Yep, that seems fine.
You also might want to consider the Sea Witch Archetype from UM, which seems to fit your concept pretty well. I hereby pre-approve it, if you're interested.

Also, does anyone know if I can have him talk all in little-caps on the forum somehow?
DO YOU MEAN LIKE THIS?
If so, you can use caps lock, the "bigger" tag for the first letter of each sentence (and for proper nouns), and the "smaller" tag for everything else to create the effect.

Out of habit.
Crunch is finished (this came together much more quickly than I thought it would) for Xeran. Just gotta work on fluff now. I don't know THAT much about the world, so I'm gonna take some liberties probably in the backstory, but you can set me straight if I'm not even close to what Gerlari is supposed to be like.
I'm up for joining either party. I don't have my fluff up yet, but first party to call dibs and give me a reason (in or out of character) to join their crew gets me!
Benefits of me:
-Jovial ooc banter
-Fun spoiler tags
-You get to watch all of my characters gradually become chaotic (Playing a LN character, but I figure it's only a matter of time)
-No job = more posting
-Silly familiar dialogue (I have a water mephit)
-Sea witch = awesome CC/single target debuffs/spells that will make us pwn ship to ship combat.
Verrin
Dibs! You would get to join the rest of the chaotic shortbus crowd (read: Waynab's boat) and join the pyromaniac gnome and the barely-lawful half-elf as we bicker incessantly. Plus, the three of us tend to post the most, so more party banter!
Also, we need someone who can cast spells that don't involve explosions.

Awesome! How long have I been on board your ship so far? Or did you just hire me? Or are you about to hire me? Just trying to figure out the timeline of things here. I'll do the rest of the backstory on my own, but I just wanted to be on the same page as the rest of you. (If you guys don't have an official navigator on board, btw, I would probably make a decent one, with a good Knowledge Geography and some sea witch patron spells/hexes that are good at that. Untrained in survival though.)
I would say I'll try to keep you kids in line, but I don't know how much control I'll have over a ship captained by a pyromaniac gnome. On the bright side, I think my familiar will feel at home.
Also, I taught my familiar some spells, so here are the spellcraft rolls. I think that I auto succeed, but I'll roll anyways.
Extra 3rd lvl spell:1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
Extra 3rd lvl spell:1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30
Extra 4th lvl spell:1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35

Liberties are exactly the point. It's an infinite archipelago: anything you want to make up exists. The region you are in has an early-medieval Europe flavor (I like to think of Rohan from the LotR movies, but at sea), but you can choose to be a wanderer from afar if you want to come from an aztec-inspired society of psions who worship a god of breakfast and have already invented the cotton gin.

** spoiler omitted **
So...... Everyone on my ship, I've done some pretty extensive backstory creation that is pretty important to, well, everything. You might want to have a look at it in my profile.
Waynab: I've sent you some questions/concerns/suggestions/confusion via El Libro de Caras, aka Der Gesichterbuch, aka Le Livre des Visages, aka 書面.
Also, I love what you've done with your spell list in your alias. The rest of you can look at that for an example of how to make a happy GM.
I'll post the IC tomorrow morning. It will begin with the two parties (Waynab/Verrin/Xeran and Teyth/Rhaegar) separated, though I expect no more than a day of play before that is resolved cutscenetacularly.
Y'all may also have to play along to not get off the rails at the very beginning (it should be obvious what I want you to do), but after that it's quite literally 100% sandbox.
Cildad
Why does Cildad wear a holy symbol and pray nightly to Besmara? Because he thinks we're approaching the Arrrrmageddon.
Why does Cildad have Acid Resist 1? Because his blood is enriched in the basic amino acid Arrrrginine.
Why does Cildad get bonuses to knowledge checks? Because he listens to NP-Arrrr!
Okay, I'm done.
