But seriously, worst melee fighter in the group? Gods, she doesn't have any illusions about being the best, but honestly, in serious combat... I don't think she's the worst.
More elaborately (because everyone *totally* wants Hrithik to get even wordier, I know), "worst person at being able to still be standing after a surprise round worth of mauling / trap-smacking, given her available hit points and unprepared AC and Perception score", translated into player-character-speak.
If Melinda knew what was coming, sure, cool. But if something of our Challenge Rating that has a real Stealth score goes up against her Perception and flat-footed AC and sorceror hps with a sneak-attack, a monster multi-action on higher initiative, or a nasty trap, she's the most likely to just drop. And then with the face-chomping.
Hrithik put that as pithily as he could :-) ... "least melee-adept" is perhaps a poor translation of "least solo-surprise-round-survivable"

In response to Tollin's comment:
(1) Yes, as things stand, the group opted not to explore the boat thoroughly.
(2) Yes, flex time on the IC board could be used to "have explored" the boat, but since at least one party member definitely declared that they were leaving *before* such an exploration would have taken place, in this particular case it would mean splitting the party to some extent. I would allow as many or as few party members except for Melinda and Alaric to join in such an exploration if they wanted. Or, of course, you could return to it later if desired, as well.
(3) However, as it is a one-deck boat tied to a pier, a more thorough exploration probably won't take that long if Tollin and/or a couple of others wants to take a look, unless, of course, there are hidden monsters in it. Barring that, it would be a couple of rounds.
(4) The creepy scavengers are feeding on the monster corpse, not the boat, so it should be possible to enter the boat without bothering them. The boat is partially sunken, so a thorough exploration would involve getting wet, but most likely not a Swim check.

And don't worry about Hrithik too much. Ameiko likes Melinda, which means Hrithik cares for her more than is reasonable. Melinda would have to actually get someone killed for Hrithik to not be willing to travel with her. Mere shanking won't suffice for the task :-)
yeah, you and me both Mel. ;) making friends every day... sometimes.
In advance... sorry Hrithik, but Lio doesn't like ganging up on people, even if she thinks that she's right and agrees with you. Our posts were really close together (i didn't even see your post till after i had posted mine) and so Lio feels you talked right over her.
That and just because you're right doesn't mean you get to be all self righteous about it :P Lio really expects more from Hrithik. He's a grown up, Mel's a teenager. (sorry Mel)

Again, no apology needed. By that point, Hrithik totally was ganging up. He'd hoped Alaric would pull her back, rather than get roped in, and then he tried to get a point-leader person to have a quiet chat earlier, but after those opportunities had passed, he was definitely getting less and less composed. By the time Lio commented, he was ready to blast both barrels, and when Mel rebutted, he did, regardless of whether or not that was helpful.
Hrithik is appropriately ashamed of falling into the traps of the dark side of unloving Chelish Courtesy, but he knows he really doesn't have a leg to stand on. He may have started out concerned, but he didn't say anything (for various background reasons with Mel), and by the time Lio vented, he had built up so much pressure he was ready to just go off.
(Hrithik felt he responded to Melinda's rebuttal, which was the last straw for him, and then Lio responded immediately after, but that may well just be a trick of his mind working in overdrive :-) )

Ditto.
Used wording... probably one of the worst insults you can use on Mel. (Which means that your relationship improves, right?)
I believe I have said, on occasion, that I often have to revise the text of Hrithik's comments a few times before posting, because to me he should just be programmed to effortlessly flow this stuff, and when disrespected, just reflexively get that shiv in, however much he consciously abhors it. This was one of those times :)
When things are calm, Hrithik can carefully not go there, can calmly do what proper etiquette requires ... but build up his emotion and push the wrong discourtesy buttons and the instinctual, backhanded burn just flows forth. It's not even malice, it's just How Things Are Done.
As far as Relationship Score goes, I think Mel and Hrithik have already hit Rivalry level, and are sailing upward (here, have that +1 morale bonus to Cha-skill checks :) ). But unlike NPC relationships, if they can ever get over it or have a meeting of the minds, the score shouldn't halve upon switching to happy-times, but double or something into a magical world of happy cinnamon-gumdrop Care-Bare unicorn sparkle-ponies ... except with sorceror bloodline wonder and bottomless wells of fiery raging against the machine.

the +1 morale bonus you only get from the first person that you get to that level with
Pretty sure Hrithik and Mel would be one another's first. Woo! +1! :-)
"hoped Alaric would pull her back"
Yeah... no.
Never said it was a wise hope for him to have, just a hope he had when Alaric jogged on out and asked her not to wander off.

Already got Ameiko to Relationship Score 12? Wow. Kudos! I have yet to manage a +2 for her.
As for Kalimac, there's a reason he wanted to be on a Caravan that would never see the same towns again: Bodies. Cordwood. Stacked.

You ever see that Futurama episode where Leela kills everybody? I'm thinking of the very end of that, personally.
Sadly, I've only seen a few Futurama episodes. I haven't seen that one.
Personally I'm casting Kalimac as Keyser Söze in his own personal version of The Usual Suspects.

Dial L for Leela
The Professor asks Leela to ask a question of the What-If Machine. Leela refuses at first, but is then teased about being unimpulsive. She angrily asks what would happen if she were a little more impulsive.
The What-if Machine creates a scenario in which Leela shows off a new pair of boots, bought on a wild impulse - according to her. However, the only difference is a green stripe down the side, which is of no interest to anyone. The Professor tells Leela that her lack of impulsiveness has given him reason to place her as his sole heir. Leela then kills Farnsworth on an impulse.
When Hermes comes into the anteater room, he finds a bootprint on the Professor's coat and shows Leela the Professor's video will. As the video will shows Leela throwing the Professor into the anteater pit, Leela kills Hermes. While Leela tries to shove the dead Hermes into the sink disposal, Bender comes in and starts to get suspicious over the deaths of the Professor and Hermes. Fearing he might find her out, Leela kills Bender by exposing him to an open microwave oven and turns his body into a toy car.
Eventually, the survivors become aware that someone in the crew is murdering them. Despite Dr. Zoidberg's attempts to track down the killer, the crew is slowly killed off one by one by Leela until only Fry remains.
When Fry then realizes that she was responsible for the murders Leela is forced to do something really impulsive: sleep with Fry to keep him quiet.

I am completely ready to post a series of (sigh) Hrithik!: and groan Kalimac!: responsorial spoilers.

Then Hrithik can totally be Melinda's first Relationship Score Rival. +1 to Cha-skills! Woo!

Kalimac looks at the castle with interest. "It seems to me that the castle, with its 'bird-men,' is our next visit. It's where the greatest dangers lie, and likely where some of our answers are. I think once we've taken care of the castle, we can check the rest of the village, docks, and whatever takes our interest without fear of attack."
Wait a minute. Wasn't this Mel's point to begin with? The one that got her read the riot act?
:)
