I had an idea for a monster that was made of paint. The paint monster would flow over surfaces and "paint" over them with its body. I also thought it should have some power to alter the object it paints similar to marvelous pigments. (I had an image of it painting doors sealed or suffocating victims by painting their faces away.)
However, im not even sure where to start with modeling this kind of beast. The best i could think of was starting it off as an ooze. Any suggestions?

Ooze or Elemental... Sounds awesome!

What if it was more like a cross between old school green slime, mimic and a doppelganger. It could kill people in their sleep or something like that, then it paints it's body over the victim to look like someone else. After the make over, the victim's body acts as a scaffolding, thus giving the living paint mobility it normally would not have. It could then do slam attacks with an acid energy effect similar to eidolons. Perhaps, the make over is not foolproof however and a good enough perception check (DC 25?) allows the PCs to seem them as fake.
I think it would give your creature a very Doctor Who like feeling when it comes to monsters; sort of like with those living plastic creatures who were manikins.

Im liking that alot actually. I think that a non-mindless ooze or an aberration might be the best base.

Special Abilities
Colorsight (Ex): A paint monster can perceive colors with its blindsight.
Amorphous (Ex) A paint monster’s body is malleable and shapeless. It is immune to precision damage (like sneak attacks) and critical hits, and can move through an area as small as one-quarter its space without squeezing or one eighth its space when squeezing.
Slime Pigments (Ex) The paint monster can use the slime of its own body as non-magical paint, and paints with these pigments with a +22 racial bonus.
Marvelous Painting(Su) Once per day, The Paint monster can use a portion of its own body as a pot of marvelous pigments. The monster paints with a +20 bonus (includes a +22 racial bonus) when painting with it's marvelous painting ability.
Change Colors (Ex) Due to its ability to change coloration, a paint monster is difficult to discern from its surroundings in most environments. A DC 20 Perception check is required to notice the paint monster. Alternatively, the paint monster can disguise itself as an actual painting. In this case a perception check DC 30 must be made to discern that the painting is animate. Any creature that fails to notice a paint monster and walks into it automatically suffers damage as if struck by the ooze’s slam attack and is immediately subject to a grab attempt by the ooze.
