So, are tickets for Paizocon 2012 available yet?

How about now?

More seriously, given all the stories that are emerging from this weekend, I'm really happy that there's a good chance I'll be able to make it across the pond to you next year!

Do you have dates already scheduled for 2012??

Time to use that time machine I was given for Christmas...

As Paizo looks at dates and locations for 2012, I hope they can avoid June 21-23rd when Bellevue/Seattle hosts the AHA National Homebrewers Conference. About 2000 homebrewers are expected to attend. I would hate to miss either one.

We are going to try to announce dates earlier than that. I want to emphasize the TRY. :)

I was happy there was no overlap with Father's Day this year.

It would be kind of cool if there was some proximity for other local events. What else is happening in the Seattle area around the same time?

Cool the sooner we know the sooner we can get plane tickers. :)

And sense James Jacobs said July I am glad that it will not interfere with Comic Con Denver in June.

It is. I think Paizocon's still gonna be in June next year.
We haven't set a firm date, as we're scoping out larger venues, but we'll be aiming for June. I've edited the blog to suit.

Thanks for the info. Yipes! This may get dicey given that the 17th of June is Denver Comic Con, and there is a light rail that goes from my apt to Comic Con, and you just can't beat that with a stick.

My wish iis that paizocon is hosted the LAST weekend of June.

I have to finaggle schedules with end of school and associated activities every year so far, and while I am only one person,I really love this con and would like to remove that conflict from my schedule.

Oh please no.

Please don't push Paizocon into the killer block of Westercon--San Diego Comicon--GenCon--WorldCon--PAX.

That's just mean. :-) I need time to plan! The longer timeframe I have, the cheaper the international flight...

I'm a total PaizoCon noob and wanted to ask a few questions as I'll have to start fighting for next year's vacation requests soon.

The Con is listed as a Friday-Sunday event. Is there anything happening the day before?

Anyone know how long it will take to travel by plane, unfortunately, from Miami to Seattle?

Anyone have an idea of typical, close to location hotel costs for Thursday-Sunday stay?

I'm just looking for loose guesstimations to determine feasibility.

Thanks.

Typically, there's a meet and eat at the Crab Pot in Bellevue on Thursday night. It's walking distance from the Bellevue Coast Hotel, the location of the Con for the last few years, and the best, location wise, place to stay for the Con.

For travel, no idea. I lived in Auburn, WA for the last two Cons and would drive back and forth each day. I'll be getting a room for 2012, as I've moved south a little and it's not logical to drive that much farther.

For room cost, I don't know that either, but I'll be looking into it the day the 2012 Con info is officially posted.

Hope at least some of this helps.

Yes. There's the Thursday night meet-and-great at the Crab Pot. Some folks also fly in on Wednesday and then use all of Thursday as a sight-seeing tour of Seattle. I've been on a couple of those and met some folks ahead of dinner that night and the actual con events.

Mr. Hunter wrote:

A long time? I fly in from Charlotte, NC and it's a 5-1/2 hour non-stop flight for me. So, something along those lines, I'd guess. Last year, I one-hopped it to save a bit more money. Plus, I was flying in early enough that a layover in Chicago or Detroit didn't matter. The red-eye flight on the way back was a bit tougher.

Mr. Hunter wrote:

The event has always been held at the Coast Bellevue Hotel (though that may change this year, we'll just have to wait and see). The costs for the hotel vary depending on whether you pay everything up front. I usually do that and get a deeper discount. Convention room rates are typically in the $105/night range (plus taxes, etc.), I think. Lots of folks split costs with roommates.

Hope that helps,

First, until the dates for 2012 are finalized and posted, you'll be shooting in the dark as far as requesting time off (OK, maybe low light conditions, it has always been in June after all).

As has been noted the Thursday prior is the Meet and Eat. I believe Timitius also has run as "Area Sightseeing Guide" for folks who show up early as well. There is also the Dim Sum run on Sunday morning.

Asheville NC to Seattle ended up being about 7 hours with 1 connecting flight. Personally, I would recommend flying out on Thursday (evening at the latest) and flying back on Monday; it should save you a little in airfare as you would not be flying on the weekend (typically heavier volume days).

As with any gaming con, I would strongly recommend staying at the hotel in which the con is happening. Nothing beats just hopping on an elevator at the end of a long day of gaming ... yeah gamin, that's all it was ;) ... and if you accidentally forget your dice or character sheets, you can just run upstairs to get them instead of waiting on a cab or running a few blocks.

Until we know where the con will be next year, cost is kinda hard to say, but IIRC the rate for the Bellevue was either just under or just over $100/night for 2009 and 2010.

What Zylphryx said. The dates this year's Con weren't announced until like March or so. I remember thinking I could buy tickets for GenCon (which was about 2 months later) before I knew the dates for PaizoCon. Don't expect the dates to be announced "any day now." I'm hoping they'll announce dates for next year's con before Christmas, but I'm not expecting it.

I'm more or less guessing it will be at a different hotel next year. We filled the hotel last year and the Con is only growing.

It would be awesome if they could announce the dates around, say early November, which is when I have to submit my vacation requests for next year. Stupid corporate environment.

Ouch, that sucks. Is there no adjusting after the initial submission? Even if your cousin in Seattle got sick in June? ;)

I have a big apartment, and you get used to it. ;p

It also works as a recording studio for the radio pod cast I am in. No really it dose.

Generally in these things you can add other bookings later. The problem is that they tend to be on a first-come-first-served basis, with a limited number of people allowed out each day. This means that if somebody in Mr Hunter's office books the days around Paizocon off, it means he won't be able to get them off.

We are too! We're very likely going to be much further ahead this year (relative to last). We've (hopefully) selected a new site, and are now trying to nail down dates.

Interesting! Can we take that as reasonably firm confirmation that it will not be at the Coast again this year?

The Coast is still a backup position.

I dreamed that I was at PaizoCon the other night...which is funny because I've never been before. But I'm so stinking excited to be going in 2012! I'm going out of my mind dreaming up what I'll learn at the workshops <cough>homebrewing 101<cough>painting minis<cough> as well as copious amounts of gaming.

Go, Vic, go! Hopefully you're looking at the week after Origins, so those of us with flights MUCH longer than 7 hours can have a truly awesome gaming holiday in the US. Just sayin...

Yep, I second that comment. I'm definitely coming over for Origins, with between one and three offspring, so the earlier I can book flights the more $$ I will have to buy new Pathfinder stuff.

Really hoping Paizocon is the week after Origins so we can get lots of gaming in - and socialising too. Except with Kyle :-).
