Couldn't Find Super Genius Games

Website Feedback

From the Main Page, I went to Paizo Products and selected Pathfinder. Then I selected Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Compatible Products. So I started looking through the 3PP's and out of curiosity, I checked to see which companies had the most products. I see most of the companies I expect to see... But I can't seem to find Super Genius Games.

So I take a second look. This time I notice OtherWorld Creations... and it's got all the Super Genius Games stuff. I assume there was a name change somewhere down the line. Any chance of seeing this fixed?

Hopefully Owen Stephens will chime in here soon and correct me if I am wrong, but there was some legal reasons why it is setup this way. Essentially I think Super Genius Games is an imprint of Otherworld Creations.

From their website

Super Genius Games is an imprint of OtherWorld Creations. Founded in fall 2007 by game industry veterans Hyrum Savage and Stan!, SGG is dedicated to publishing quality PDF and print products for a wide range of games and game systems.

I'm certainly not Owen or Hyrum, but my understanding is that Super Genius Games is indeed an imprint of OtherWorld Creations.

Is is a bit confusing though ...

Maybe Paizo could list them in their store as Super Genius Games / OtherWorld Creations or something.

Since no one has linked it yet, here they are Super Genius Products. They are indeed listed under otherworldly creations. I am not sure why exactly, but I am sure Owen could explain that one.

Yeah. We wish that was not the case. :)

If on the main page you scroll down to Downloads, you can then select Super Genius Games directly.

If you use other routes, you are more likely to run into our stuff still being listed under Otherworld Creations. The story behind why this is so isn't very interesting, but here goes:

Back before Hyrum worked for Paizo, he owned his own small-press company, Otherworld Creations. While he and Stan! were both working for another game company, they had the idea of producing games together and decided to create a new imprint to do so -- Super Genius Games. This was because there was no legal need to create a new company, but their new games were not going to be connected to any of OC's original offerings. The new imprint's support leaned heavily toward Call of Cthulhu and Savage worlds, but they also did an adventure for 4e and a class for Pathfinder.

I happened to write one of the Cthulhu adventures (Midnight Harvest), and I knew both Stan! and Hyrum from "the old days."

So, when I say an opportunity to do some interesting things with Pathfinder, I contacted those two to see if they wanted to be involved. We got a deal, and worked on a big sourcebook for Pathfinder. A sourcebook that, for reasons I can't talk about, has never seen the light of day and likely never will, and that's about all I can say about that. (But feel free to ask me about it at PaizoCon, and see if I have a slightly different answer thrn.)

While we were working on the big sourcebook, we had the clever idea of doing some short PDF products for Pathfinder. We wanted to "introduce" ourselves to the Pathfinder-playing public with some short, cheap items before asking them to buy a big print book we'd written. Since the first item Hyrum and Stan! had done was put out through SGG, and it was listed as an imprint of OC, that's how Paizo organized our new PDF offerings.

Things have evolved since then, and Paizo was kind enough to re-organize how we appear in most listings, but depending on how you look for us, you may still find the old listings under Otherworld creations. That may never get entirely fixed, and certainly it's not going to while Paizo is dealing with the con season.

But thanks for taking the time to look for us!

Let the rampant speculation begin as to what the big "mystery product" was/is! I'm guessing... some big campaign setting that might have competed/interfered with Golarion somehow.

I hope that somewhere along the way, Owen and Co. can get whatever glitches are keeping this product in the ethereal realm straightened out. I love the bits-and-pieces stuff they are doing right now (I'm an All-Genius Pass DaD subscriber who loved Phil Reed's stuff when he was still publishing, for those for whom that has any meaning), but I would also be very interested in what SGG might do with a longer format!

I think I've hunted down all of the OtherWorld Creations sections and changed them to Super Genius (with the exception of /store/byCompany/o/otherWorldCreations, which continues to exist as a pointer to /store/byCompany/s/superGeniusGames).

Thanks, Vic! That's awesome, especially with PaizoCon looming!

Heheh. It was kind of a campaign setting, but I don't think it would have interfered with Golarion in any way, and in any case that's now why the layout sits in a file instead of going off to a printer. :)

That has meaning to me, and I consider it high praise. Thanks!

Hmmm. Confused me too... on my site, OtherWorld Creations and Super Genius Games point to the same page in the publisher section, and share a product listing.

Realistically, that's how it should work. :)
