Why does it need Full Network access? I'm pretty sure it didn't need that before.

stuart haffenden wrote:

I've purchased it. It's pretty good!

Could we have the creatures BAB listed so that Feats like Power Attack can be used simply?

I'm happy that you like this app :).

I have added BAB feature in my TODO list :).

@Frozen: The speed is in "more" section.

@Cheapy: The full network access is required for Admob :). It is not required in PRO version, only in lite.

Frozen Forever wrote:
Am I missing something? Where's the speed of the creatures?

It's under "more" on the main creature page.

Scarab Sages

I bought the app today and it's really nice. Helped me a lot when playing my summoner.

How hard would it be to make it scale up and work nicely on tablets? I have both an Evo Shift 4G phone and a Xoom tablet, and on the tablet, it's exactly the same size on the phone -- so it's kind of stuck in the upper corner of the screen and doesn't use any of the extra screen space. It would be nice if it could scale up to display more info about the monster on the screen at once, or maybe if it could reduce the amount of navigation back and forth through menus...

Anyway, good work. :-)

Keeps getting better and better with each update! :)

A few suggestions/questions:

- Any chance you could add a round counter for the remaining duration? An option for setting the caster level (maybe hidden like the Augment Summoning activation) could serve as the base for the duration and all you need would be a single button to decrease the number by one.

- An option to set the number of summoned monsters when you summon more than one would be nice. I know the app will roll for me, but some of use like to roll with, you know, dice. :)

- An additional attack roll for crit confirmation would be great. Even better when it wouldn't work only on a natural 20 but within the actual crit-range of the creature. And maybe even multiply the damage in the total damage result (with an option to mark the confirmation roll as successful or not)?

- Having the details on Smite Evil/Good (attack bonus and damage bonus) under other details on the attack screen might save some cross-checking during the creature's turn.

- Probably a low priority, but are you planning to add Shadow Conjuration, Greater Shadow Conjuration and Shades to the app? They all reduce the HP and the AC (and possibly the damage) of the creatures so having those stats ready within the app wuold come in handy.

I think i can take this.

This is a lot of code for us, when you just have to pay attention... :)

This application doesn't want to make user useless. :D it just wants to help you, so your mind still have to be connected. :D I'm sorry if you don't like this answer, but i 'm just saying that easy things can be done by users. Also because you have to say to the application that round has ended; now if you say that to the application, or if you write it on your blocknotes, where is the difference? :D

We will see how to add this feature. (multiple evocation)

Takilian will answer for this. i don't know if i will do this with the iphone version.

We will, only if they are OGC elements. I know that rulebook is presented under OGL, but on same rulebook, you can find OGC and not-OGC elements. I can't know for sure witch element is what, so i have to wait that PRD (or some other officially compatible reference document) is refreshing.

Wait taki, if he has something to add to this post.

Many Thanks for these suggestions, they are very good. I have added them to my TODO List.

However, I do not think I will implement them soon.
It took me a long time to develop this application, and tried to satisfy all user requests. Nevertheless, my gain is 0 for the time and sales are off by two days.
I hope you understand why I'm not going to spend more time in this application :)

Don't get me wrong. The app is awesome as it is now. I can totally live with the current version. I'm just making some suggestions in case they pay off enough for you to invest the time. If not, that's fine, too. :)

Recently added the Lite version to my phone, it is a very clever program and will likely come in handy.

However, I find the GUI difficult to read. At least on my little Motorola Citrus, which to be fair is not exactly a high end phone, the red and blue lettering is hard to read on the black background, especially with that little swirly graphic in the background. If the background were white or a pale grey, with black lettering and still the blue and red accent colors, it would probably be a lot more legible (and in turn I would then consider buying the full version).

Also one quick spelling correction: in the attack section, "dice" are incorrectly referred to as "dices". "Dice" is a bizarre little word in the English language--the singular form of the word is "die" (as in "roll one six-sided die") and the plural is "dice" -- much like the plural of "mouse" is "mice". It's a very minor issue but will make your interface look that much more professional if you fix it. :)

Note that Paizo releases almost every mechanic, including feats, spells, traits, monsters*, etc. under the OGC. I can't recall a single feat or spell, for instance, that is not OGC and I have every Pathfinder book ever published...

Just something to consider for helping the app receiver wider use. The faster you can stay on top of new material, the better. You can reference the d20 PFSRD as a source since it is updated much faster than the PRD and is endorsed by Paizo

* A few monsters have been used with specific permission from IP holders. These are specifically noted in the relevant works. The coeurl is an example of such a monster.

takilian is a pro. ;)

Has anyone encountered problems?
Or maybe give some other advice / suggestions?

I'm thinking of adding a simple support for "MapTool". Basically, dice rolls, like the attacks, will also appear on MapTool or a similar application.
It would be useful?

P.S. Next week, I will release a new application to display the PRD offline with various adaptations for mobile devices.

Takilian Rueshin wrote:

Yeah, I noticed. Thanks a lot! :)

Sorry for not posting in a while. Kinda lost track of the thread affter it's been moved to the technology forum.
I have no further issues or sugestions at the moment. But I'll start playing a Conjurer soon and I'm totally going to use the app a LOT. I'll keep you udated if I encounter annything that needs improvement.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to the PRD-app!

A question: why this app on Android doesn't sell?
Is it useless, too expensive or what?

P.S. For PRD-app I'm having some trouble with "honeycomb" support. I have scheduled to release it the 28th of June.
The current features are:
* Completly offline browsing
* Four-level index
* Multitab browser
* Search in page
* Favorites
* Support for Large screen/Honeycomb

I think you are working with two issues. One, your market is tiny. Advertising here is going to get you some interest, but the vast majority of the Pathfinder gamers out there don't read the forums, and out of those that do the vast majority don't read the tech forums. Advertising is going to be done by word of mouth unless you can get seen by somebody popular and promoted externally.

Secondly, Android isn't iPhone. That's really what it's all about. Android users do buy applications in the same bulk as Apple users. Between the free app of the day from Amazon and a built up three years of expectations that some of the great apps out there are free, we frankly aren't interested in spending anything on an application, especially since most of the time there is a free alternative. As a personal reference, I did buy the Summoner App and it added to the roughly $8 I've ever spent on Android applications.

You will notice that there are two spellbooks out there. One used to be free, one used to be pay. They are both free now, which I suspect might happen to your app once somebody else comes out and builds a free one.

Oh and thanks for the Honeycomb support.

I will pay takilian to remove that from appstore instead of seeing summoner free.

This will never be possible. We spent a lot of time on it, if users wants my time they have to pay me a cup of coffy.

The problem isn't advertising. in fact the lite versione is going fine. The pro is not going well. The problem is the user that wants anything and wants to spend nothing.

Tis application really is a time saver. I've seen it. It is followed by his developer, it is always up to date, it is optimized for any type of android device, and if you want a new feature takilian improves that and implement in the app. All those things can't be done for free. i'm sorry, but you are greatly wrong.

I can tell there is a minor language barrier problem here.

I did not say you SHOULD change your price to free. I said that Android users are cheap and WANT it all to be free. Takilian asked why Summoner was not selling on Android. That is one of the reasons why.

The other is that advertising on the Paizo boards will only get you a SMALL number of ALL users out there.

Be warned though. Removing an app others have paid for will not make you a friend of the community.

On the first issue, I disagree: the lite version have downloaded about 1000 times.
Obviously, there are many players who can not get through forums / blogs, but they are not few 1000 downloads.

Typo I couldn't go back and fix. Android users do not buy apps at the same level as iPhone users. Your link was what I was referring to.

Also 1000 app downloads is pretty low. My goal amongst worldwide PF gamers would be that the number would be closer to 10x that. The actual paid download perceny looks about right on what I would expect though.

Having bought it myself, I can't tell you why. I do know that gaming apps simply have not beeen as successful volume wise on the Android platform compared to iOS. Also keep in mind that with tablets, iPhone, and the generally overall better experience of the iTunes store compared to the Android market might have something to do with it.

The other factor is that the app itself is pretty much unknown outside this message thread. ITunes is more impulse shopping friendly than the Market which increases the chance of someone finding the app randomly.

You may simply need more patience. Also keep in mind that Android devices span a greater variety of hardware than the current iOS devices, the low end is very very low compared to the high end. although I'm running Summoner fine on my Optimus, I think my screen is too small for a PRD app.

LazarX wrote:

Why do you think that?

The PRD app was developed on an Optimus One :).
The idea is that my apps, supports all sizes and form factors. Surely, a tablet is better than a smartphone with a screen of 3 inch.

For smartphones with small screens, in next releases, there will be a better support for "Search". I think that will help a lot :)

Hower, thanks for your answer. I will try to publicize better those apps :)

Regarding Summoner not selling:

Beyond the reasons noted, there is the fact that the PRD and d20pfsrd.com are available on browsers which can be read by a phone for free.

Further, it occurred to me this morning when reading your other thread about your rules document app that -- there are some licensing issues that some folks may not feel they should pay for until those are worked out and they are sure they are purchasing a legal application. No one wants to buy something with the fear that Paizo or WotC (owners of the OGL) may force you to remove it (and thus lose access to it and updates). Obviously Paizo is willing to work with you to help make this right, but the licensing issues may be a factor. Just a thought.

I think it's a useful application and I hope things work out so you can continue to support it.

Summoner hasn't legal issue, and Pathfinder rd just needs a new title to be free of legal issue. You are safe from problem. those apps will be always supported by us.

Part of the problem is visibility.
Its strange, but I never found this thread here on Paizo's forum, yet I found a link to this program on EN World.
On researching the app on the market, the description never say's anything about this being a Pathfinder based product (only DnD), so I was very wary about picking it up, since I wasn't sure that it wasn't only a 3.5 product.

Now that I've played with it, I picked up the full version since my character is a traditional summoner with access beyond 3 level summons with augmented summons, so the free version just wouldn't hack it.

The price was fair, so I bought the program. Even if I fail to use it more than once or twice, I spend more than the purchase price at a fast food restaurant, so it was worth a try.

Thanks for doing this product, but update your description or keywords to include "Pathfinder" compatible so that those who search based on that keyword will find your product.

Good Job, I look forward to future updates.
