Well with 8th level arcane and 9th level divine, I think we can count on playing tier 8-9? I just hope you're not Kelish, Vudrani, or openly supporting the Qadiran agenda. ;-)

I just snagged the last seat in the Friday noon Midnight Mauler game. I was trying for Kyle's Saturday game but it was full.

Sorry, I choose to disbelieve that. I find it inconceivable that you have a friend. :-)

Wait a minute...that'd be my 7th level bard-barian and my husband's 6th level ranger in the Saturday morning Midnight Mauler. Are you saying I should actually stat up my 2nd level GM-credit PC for the remainder of the Con?

That's only if you're unrecoverable! That doesn't happen.. often. Just ask Pain-in-the-butt-lord.

This will be interesting with 6th and 7th level characters. Here's hoping that the other 4 don't show up with level ones! And actually, if you've got level 1's or 2's that you would be willing to play, you should bring thoses as well, or be okay with running at tier 3-4 if we get a wide mix of levels. Your choice really.

We both have level 2s we can play if necessary. My 7th level only gets to see action at PaizoCon anymore, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for a high-level table!

Sorry Kyle, you have to interact with me in order get your wil save. A forum post does not count as interacting, therefore you're stuck with the illusion I've presented.

For the GM's of Part 1, who've already played/run it in a Slot zero, to play in.

Ah, that makes sense. Wait, does that mean I get to kill some GMs? Excellent.

Speaking of part 1, I wonder if there is any way Paizo will let me buy that one early, like maybe the same time I get access to part 2. It would be nice to have some idea what the part 1 folks did/saw so I can try to provide some continuity.

Any tips for someone who is not only going to his first game Con, but who is also going to be running games there?

Keep an eye on your pace. I had trouble with keeping modules under the right amount of time.

As far as it being your first con, pace yourself. I'm a glutton for punishment so I've done the "stay on my feet for 10 hours" thing at a con. It's not easy and you'll want breaks. Also, remember that everybody at the convention is there for the same reason you are, to have fun. You're also amongst friends, as we're all there to play games. Conventions tend to be friendly places.

As far as GMing, read, re-read, and re-read again the module. Running Pathfinder Society is similar to running a home game, but there are some significant differences that need noting. This means you need to know your Pathfinder Society rules; you'll likely have players there that can help, but it is different than a normal game and it has its own set of house rules. You have a lot less you can do to "tweak" things, which means its less your story than home games. Every module has a hard 5-hour time limit, and that includes the time required for setting-up, handing out chronicles, and tearing down, which means roughly 4:30 of actual play on the outside, so remember that time-limit as you play through.

Since I'll likely be at your table for the morning slot here's a few tips :-)

Even though you may not get the scenario until a few days before PaizoCon, try to schedule a slot zero with a group of friends before the Con. I find that running it once makes everything go smoother down the line.

I personally like well drawn maps (or printed out and enlarged ones). If you're great at setting the scene and providing good descriptions of what's going on, then maps aren't as necessary.

Relax! We're all gamers and we're there to roll some dice and have some fun. Don't get caught up in details.

Be energetic! Engage your players. Players feed off a GM's energy. That can be difficult at a convention where people are only getting a couple hours of sleep. Bring us to back to life with your enthusiasm!

As others pointed out, watch your timing. This is much easier if you've run it once. If there's a question about a rule or spell, have a player look it up for you so that you can keep us going forward.

I sincerely hope you don't regret it! Midnight Mauler is far from a deathmatch. Most of the stories you read about me are only partially true. ;-) (DougDoug's tears do taste delicious afterall!)

There are at least a level 6 and a level 7 at the table already. They'll be bringing level 2's just in case.

Rules wise, I haven't found any conflict with it yet.

Cannon wise, the Hellknights have a number of paladins in their ranks, especially in the Order of the Godclaw.
Roleplaying wise, it is fun to play a character raised in the modern Chelish traditions who is called to serve the Inheritor by returning Cheliax to its older traditions.

Three out of six does not make a tier 6-7. Hopefully everyone else is at least 4th level.

For what it's worth my alchemist is a bit of a switch hitter. He does best in melee though.

You are correct Ogre, with 3 unknowns, there's a high percentage that at least one of them will show up with a brand new level 1 character. Fortunately I think even a level 1 character will enjoy tier 3-4 and even feel as though they're contributing effectively.

Shadow Lodge

Yeah, con-play is a bit of a crapshoot. It's too bad they don't list these based on subtier. When you have multiple games in the same time slot the organizers can steer people to sub-tier appropriate tables but not for this.
