Multi-Pet Archetypes

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Broodmaster Evolutionists
Pack Lord Druids
Beastmaster Rangers.

These are three archtypes that are like "Hey we can have more pets!"

But then when you get them, you discover it really means "we can only have one other pet"

The reason being is that there is very little way to increase or powerup your individual pets beyond HD. and you have to split the die between the pets.

It is kinda hard to create a pack with this being the case. Perhaps if the pet classes like this could actually give up feats like the beast bonded witch can.

How can they become better or am I just dumb and you can already make a little mini army that doesn't end up dieing due to a stiff wind.

While I understand the appeal of playing a character with many pets, I think that allowing a character to have too much along those lines takes away from the overall fun at the table. It's not much fun to wait through someone casting spells for their character, then making attack rolls for two pets, Stealth checks for a third, and saving throws for all four. The problem is compounded if you have multiple people with pets.

Silver Crusade

I got rid of this idea early on in the games I run. You can only ever have one cohort, Animal Companion, Bond Mound, Edilon, Or Mount. More then one slows down game play to much. It's not RAW but I'm not spending 2hr on a combat that should only take 45min.
