Buying Mounts, Animals - Trained?

Rules Questions

When you buy a donkey or mule for example, is it trained for Riding or Heavy Labour? Is a Riding Dog trained for Riding? Is a Horse trained for Riding or Combat Training? Seems a bit weird that you buy an animal but it knows no tricks at all. Was this ever clarified? A stabler selling animals for mounts wouldn't really be doing his job if he wasn't training them.

Also, the loads they carry don't line up with the Strength scores of the animal, the chart was copied from 3.5, which didn't line up either.

As far as carrying capacity goes...I haven't checked the chart, but are the carrying capacities off by oh, say...50% Because four-legged creatures can carry more than a biped of the same size, 1.5 times for medium, and 3 times for large.

Liberty's Edge

As a DM I would assume so.

What's the point in selling a Riding Dog if it isn't trained for that task.

In regards to the horse, well it's simple I think, what did you buy the horse for? Did you buy a Riding Horse (Riding set)? A War Horse (Combat Set)? A Carriage Horse(Labor Set)?

The above applies to dogs as well. Is it a hunting dog? A dog breed for War?

If the animal isn't trained I would assume it was too young to learn anything at the time of purchase or the PC is specifically looking for an untrained animal so that he can train it himself.
