Wouldn't it be obvious to conclude that the reason Paizo published a filled solar system was to be able to detail the other worlds at some point?
Sooner or (more likely) later they'll get to the other planets.

@ Arnwyn, (and Paizo staff) I think it's vital to let Paizo know when we don't like the idea of something such as Jade Regent, not merely letting them know after it's out.
Just like we did for years before and during Paizo's reign of publishing the mags
I am also Not-At-All excited about Jade Regent and am pretty sure (at this time) I'm going to be cancelling my Charter Subscription and Modules subscription just before it begins. (I'll get the AP PDFs, probably.)
Feedback from us can only (should only) be a welcome thing. Even when we customers don't really provide any reason for our whims.

Eh, not really excited about Jade Regent either, but I'll buy it if I continue to have money on the off-chance that I might want to run an Asian-themed campaign some day. (Whether I run an Asian-themed campaign will probably boil down to whether my players want to play Asian-themed classes.)
I guess I have about as much interest in running Jade Regent as Second Darkness, if that provides some perspective. I like the first couple books of Second Darkness.
I will probably enjoy reading Jade Regent though, because I do want to see what Paizo does with an Asian theme.

All kidding aside, W E Ray and Arnwyn are both totally right--not every adventure path will be for every group, and that's okay! We all have different interests. For Jacobs, Jade Regent is a baby that's been a long time in the birthing, which of course makes it a little hard to hear when people aren't interested (and granted, some opinions come off sound harsher than perhaps they were intended). But that doesn't mean we're not still listening! We're also trying hard to make sure that for each wildly divergent adventure path--whether that's an Asian-themed adventure, a Numerian adventure, or whatever--is followed up with something more traditional that will appeal to folks with more, shall we say, "classic" tastes.
Can Paizo be all things to all people all the time? Of course not. But we can promise to always pursue the ideas that we think are the coolest, and to do our damnedest to make as many people as possible see why we're so excited about them. :)
And man, is there some good stuff coming up...

Did you hear that everyone - Paizo is doing a techno-fantasy AP next year. Probably going to be the August release since the one after Jade Regent will be more "classic." Unless Sutter is talking about the classic Expedition to Barrier Peaks, then it might start at the beginning of 2012.
That's what I heard anyway.
EDIT: Did I mention Enkili is the god of wild speculation. And since we were talking about APs we're Not-At-All excited about, well, I'm not a big fan of super-tech in my fantasy. Maybe now is the time to say something, before it is set in stone rather than after.

Very true. But if enough of us keep asking for it we might be able to convince Paizo that sooner is better than later. ;)

I suppose so (though I almost always provide reasons - but I try to avoid (overly) repeating myself, so my reasons may not appear in every single post...!). I do certainly agree that there is some less value (though far from valueless - consider the many things that Paizo learned from Second Darkness [I hope]) in providing feedback when it's already out.

That's what I'll be doing - both my AP and module subs as well (though, unlike you, they're not Charter!).

Well, for every vocal nay sayer there is at least one person quietly saying to themselves how much they can't wait for the Jade Regent AP. I am one of those who couldn't be better pleased with some support for some non-western AP and supporting products. In fact, I only subscribed to the AP line when I found out there was going to be an Asian themed AP. Carrion Crown, Kingmaker, and Serpent Skull all looked nice, but they couldn't drag me in until I learned of Jade Regent. After I learned about that, I signed up right away so I could get Carrion Crown in the deal, too.

LOL
Well if that's the case ignore my earlier post.
I want more on Golarion and don't give two farts in the wind about the other planets right now!

Well, for every vocal nay sayer there is at least one person....
Well of course!
That's why it's also important for Paizo to look at our posts with a grain of salt and make decisions based not just on what we convey but what they feel is the smartest business choice.
Of course.
For or against, it's beneficial to Paizo when we all keep our feedback coming.

Maybe if we fire the orange portal trigger when Castrovel is closest, and the blue portal on the wall over there...
Hey. Spoilers!
Well, not (obviously) for me. But hey. Nobody else responded to you, so you might as well get me. It's sort of a consolation prize, only they ran out of the decent swag and all that's left is a crappy plastic bag with some missing kid's face printed on it but the ink's running so he looks Dali-esque. Err.

Arnwyn wrote:(Well, other than the wretched Jade Regent, which I'm passing on.)Woah! You can see the future?
Tell me, when will del Toro's adaptation of "At the Mountains of Madness" finally make it out to theaters? :-P
Wait... that implies that I agree that Jade Regent is gonna be wretched! You must be deluded by an intrusive parallel world future! BEWARE!
More seriously... until it's out, try not to make unfounded claims about whether or not an AP or anything is "wretched." Once it's out and if you've looked at it... blast away.
Unless, of course, your primary intent is to distress and annoy me (since I've been trying to get Jade Regent off the ground for 3 years or so now... ever since Pathfinder #1...), in which case carry on. You're off to a great start! :-)
When Del Toro's masterpiece "At the Mountains of Madness" is released in theatres can we expect the release of a Plateau of Leng book?

If they make a campaign they also have to support the campaign with AP's. The current campaign world still has unexplored areas, and people may feel forced to buy the new setting for the AP's.
They don't believe in creating something and not supporting it so that is not really an option.
There are several other campaign worlds, even though they are 3.5. They can work well enough though with most AP's.
If you don't use AP's then that gives even more flexibility to add your story onto an existing world.

As one of the people who has been waiting for Jade Regent (and any numeria based campaign) I feel like I am missing something. What about jade regent is turning you off? Is it the Asian theme? Is it that there will be extensive travel? I have seen so few asian themed adventures in my 30 years of gaming that I find it difficult to say it will be good or bad just based on that and every AP involves traveling somewhere, be it all over a country or all over a continent. What is different about Jade Regent that has peoples tails all twisted?

Zaister |
For me, the travel is the redeeming feature that might make Jade Regent at least interesting to read, probably more so even than Carrion Crown. There was travel in previous APs which didn't seem to put people off, though.
However, as far s I am concerned, I have zero interest in playing in the pseudo-Asian setting, let alone GM it, especially having several players that hold more interest and knowledge in this area, and I really couldn't bear endless discussions about the whole Samurai/Ninja/Katana stuff. Beyond that, many tropes of Asian folklore and mythology are very off-putting to me, such as the various races used in previous Oriental Adventures, like -yokai and so on. I just can't stand anthropomorphized and/or talking animals in any medium (and that includes western movies), and I'm afraid this stuff will as certainly come up in a pseudo-Asian setting as wetstern myth creatures come up in a more traditional setting.
I'm not a fan of Carrion Crown either, as its gothic-horror-style doesn't appeal to me much either. It could be nice for a single adventure, like the original I6 Ravenloft adventure, but as a general setting, like the later Ravenloft setting, it doesn't hold an interest for me, it's to excessive and too narrowly focused. Also, I don't understand why this gothic horror stuff is considered "scary"; I've never been able to feel that, and maybe that is why a campaign or setting like that doesn't do much for me.
Well, so the Carrion Crown APs go on the shelf mostly unread (another reason for that is that the GM in a group I play in might still decide to use them). I'll read more from Jade Regent probably, as the setup and journey look interesting, but once the travels end and the eastern myth stuff that I detest comes into play, I'll probably stop reading the adventures and hope the next AP will be something that comes closer to meeting my interests.
Anyway I don't begrudge people who like that stuff that they get them. I just hope Jade Regent won't lead to more pointless discussions how everything needs to be better just because it's Japanese. :)

I'd pretty much have to agree with this in terms of how Asian themed settings turn me off. I don't know what it is - from Oriental Adventures through Kara Tur, it's just never been something that appealed. I can't form an emotional connect with it, it's too alien - more alien that any Western mediaeval analogue, more alien that Greece, Rome, Egypt, more alien even than distant planets or strange dimensions, all of which are pretty much based on some familiar form of pulp literature. The tropes, the styles of feudalism, the weapons, and, yes, the 'samurai and ninja' stuff - they all bore me. Is that bad? Who knows. It's the same reason really I've never played an Elf in a fantasy game; I can't imagine what it would be like to be an immortal, fey being, and I'm not good enough to do justice to roleplaying one. Just can't do it. Same reason I don't like people playing elves in my campaigns (although I don't stop them) - because I know for a fact they're just going to play humans with pointy ears and a bunch of cool powers. If you can't do it justice, don't do it. That's just insulting.
But I absolutely support Paizo's right to do it, and to explore that world. I don't accept the 'vocal nay sayer' tag that's being applied to people like me for whom it's simply not a very exciting option. I'm not going to run it, but I know there are a lot of people who enjoy that world and good luck to them; my daughter played through Jade Empire enough times on my xbox - she had a lot of fun, and I'm glad she did, and I think the same for everyone who is going to get a big kick out of Jade Regent, and for the folks at Paizo (like James) who had a blast developing it.

Dude, that is soooo 1980s. Now the discussion will be how everything needs to be better just because it is Chinese. :^D
I'll admit, though, that I am looking forward to the Jade Regent and seeing what Paizo does with that part of Golarion. I do respect the opinion of those that aren't interested, though.
