What are some of your favorite "3rd Party" Pathfinder Supplements?

Product Discussion

I am just looking around the store, checking out the 3rd party stuff and I got to wondering: What are some of your favorite 3rd party supplements?

The Super Genius stuff sounds interesting for example, but I am not so sure.

What do you guys suggest as stuff that expands on and adds decent new options for the Pathfinder System?

I love super genius games and their material. Not only that, someone posted something about not enough 3pp products in print and a representative from super genius games was one of the first to respond to it, which shows me they care about their reputation and informing their players.

Adamant games has some good products as well, and I'm really excited for their post apoc setting, but the lack of info from them and not hearing from them in a while is really disconcerting.

Rite publishing has some good products/options but I haven't looked at much of it.

To be honest most of my characters have been straight from paizo exclusive products (feats, spells, etc.) Since they do a good job with that stuff as is.

Hope that answers some of your question.

Well 2 things I was looking at personally were these:

Firstly, The Genius Guide to the Godling New Base Class because I like the idea of making my own Hercules type character!

And then this, because I been wanting to make a true Earth Mage for a while - The Genius Guide to Earth Magic

Those are 2 examples and while they are not too expensive I dont want to spend the money if they, well, suck :P

There is a previous thread on this topic here - enjoy!

Number one for me would be the Freeport Companion for Pathfinder, followed by Sunken Empires, from Open Design/Kobold Quarterly, but I'm also fond of Kragnar's Alchemy Shop, Loot4Less Armor & Weapons, Ice Magic and Air Magic, from SGG.

I will say that both of the products you mentioned are worth buying. I have both of them and 2-3 bucks per isn't bad. There may be some stuff you won't use, but what product doesn't have that. And the godling pdf gives u the mighty godling and the clever godling. Two classes for the price of one. The mystic godling give you the adept godling and the mystic godling. Both are very good, but they have to fit your playstyle or you'll need to make them fit.

Mystic Godling?

Mighty = fighter type

Clever = rogue type

Adept = medium caster (bard spell progression) type

Mystic = sorcerer caster (wiz/sor spell progression) type

Hope that clears it up.

That makes sense but the PDF I got only has the first 2 in it. Interesting.

I rather like Rite Publishing's PDFs, especially their ones covering monster PC races like Minotaurs and Giants. I'm aiming at getting their book on Monster Templates when I can.

I also have a lot of Super Genius PDFs from the Advanced Options, the complete set of similar PDFs from Open Design/Kobold Quarterly. The one covering new hexes for Witches is especially good.

As I'm a big Kingmaker fan the PDFs from Jon Brazer Enterprises for that AP are very atractive to me, and they are very well done too.

I've also got the "Fursona" book from Skortched Urf, which is very good IMHO but probably a 'your mileage may vary' tome to people who don't like anthropomorphic characters; and I'm going to be getting "The Noble Wild" in a few weeks.

That aside I'm pretty much Paizo/Pathfinder only.

The other two are in the genius guide to mystic godlings.

Sovereign Court

We really like the Complete Character Folio that Gamer Ingenuity created. It's very well made and our FLGS is having trouble keeping them in stock as they sell out so fast. :)

Thank you for the compliment!!!

I love the super genius products. At this point all but 3 of their non adventure products (dont use their one-night stands) have seen use in my game in one form or another. Over half of my current party is a Super Genius Class. I've used most of the other classes as enemies and npcs. Their feats and magic products have loads of flavor, and if you are using the classes their advanced options products are great. If the concept of a specific product sparks your interest, it is worth buying. Also the SGG guys are active here on the boards, so if you are curious about a products ask in the discussion and they will respond pretty quickly.

Besides that I really like 4Winds Strategists and Tacticians. It has lots of interesting options for martial types (a number of options from there are also use in my game).

I also make limited use of Psionics Unleashed, but that is only because my current campaign doesnt feature psionics much, the one I am planning on next will see heavy use.

The game I play in off and on. They use many of the feat, spell, hex, bloodline etc parts from several 3pp books. Mostly Rite Publishing, SGG, and Open design. Not sure what all else. The GM just copies and pastes the relevant info into word and prints it that way. Though Luven's equipment by 4 Wind Fantasy and the Alchemy book by SGG.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path, Lost Omens Subscriber

I just finished running Coliseum Morpheuon, and it is a great book. Even if you don't want to run the adventure, it is an excellent planar supplement. Everything I've seen from Rite Publishing is top notch.

I also can't recommend Kobold Quarterly from Open Design enough. For under $30 a year you can get a subscription which is well worth it. Their other supplements are excellent too.

If you are looking for a great megadungeon I recommend DungeonADay.com. It could be a campaign in itself, but I've so far just been raiding specific encounters to supplement my own game.

I will admit I haven't checked out enough of the other 3PP. Psionics Unleashed is high on my list to get next. As is Forgotten Foes. Oh, and don't forget the upcoming Complete Tome of Horrors!!!

Is there a way to get a subscription to Kobold Quarterly? I would love to do that but I didn't see an option.

Complete Tome of Horrors?

Should you feel so inclined, we really do love to hear game reports of our books actually in use, so once your psionics-heavy game starts up, you're more than welcome to let us know how the game goes! Not necessarily from the "this is broken, this worked great", even just adventure recaps and whatnot.

Sure, I am going to be heavily houseruling magic in this game to make it fit an existing setting (Steven Brust's Vlad Novels) so I wouldnt be in a position to give commentary on the balance of the material anyway. But I would be glad to let you know how things go when things get started. It is still in the planning stages at this point (my current campaign is still in progress).

Just wanted to thank the folks with the Rite Love

More Rite love here. :D

I also personally love the Oathbound setting, though I haven't read through the entire thing yet. I know the races alone made me squee with joy.

Gun Metal... variant class Barbarian and barbarian bloodlines. I believe they also have variant Paladins.

Liberty's Edge

4 Winds Fantasy Games entire catalog is spectacular. Luven's is probably the best, but, then again, it's in a class by itself. The others are amazing resources... I've actually NEVER created a Pathfinder Wizard without using the Book of Arcane Magic, for instance.

I'm a big fan of the Freeport Companion, and I've never played in Freeport. LOTS of great NPC statblocks, some awesome feats, and some necessary new base classes. (Assassin and Noble will always have a place at my table.)

Rite Publishing's got some awesome stuff as well... I particularly love the Book of Monster Templates and their Feat collection.

Loved every Super Genius Product I've ever bought. Good stuff.

Tricky Owlbear Games has some awesome products as well... Forgotten Foes needs to be in print SOON!

I also have to acknowledge that I contributed to it, but despite my exceedingly minor contributions, Headless Hydra Games' Eldritch Secrets vol. 1 is spectacular.

I'm a subscriber to Kobold Quarterly, and scarcely an issue goes by without me using something from it. Northlands, from Open Design, is a thing of beauty and a rollicking good read.

Hey, thanks Stark! I know you've been a fan but I appreciate the good words. And we're still working on the print FF. However, we've signed up with Studio 2 to bring that very book to stores in the fall.

If you can't wait, I might have an alternative you can chew on in the meantime. Email me: bret.boyd@trickyowlbear.com

Thank you very much! We're very glad you get so much use and enjoyment from them. :D
