The most amusing thing in the prequel trilogy, at least to me, is how excited that the Jedi are that Anakin is going to bring balance to the force. There's dozens if not hundreds of Jedi, and (supposedly) only two Sith (although Doku seems to pop up already pretty well-versed in the Dark Side once Darth Maul bites the big one). He brought some g$*~*@n balance to the force all right. By killing all but two of the Jedi. There's yer balance, you pointless little green muppet!

Crewmen of the true companion
I can see your tired of action
In this everlasting twilight
Home is just a sad extraction
I've seen things you wouldn't believe
fire off the shoulder of Orion
glitter near the Tannhäuser Gate
All moments lost like tears in rain
Just beyond the troubled skyways
Young men dream of fire and starshine
I've been dreaming of my own green world
Far across the reach of space time

What bothers me the most about those stories is the sheer and ridiculous level of absolute, unwavering, ass-hatting going on with the Jedi Council, especially Mace Windu and Yoda.
Qui-Gon: "Hey, this kid is ridiculously powerful. We should train him so he doesn't mess things up."
Yoda and Mace: "Nope. He's too old."
Qui-Gon: "But if he doesn't get trained, he could fall to the Dark Side."
Y&M: "Nope. He's too old."
Qui-Gon: "No, really, let me train him so he doesn't, you know, turn evil."
Y&M: "Oh, fine, but we don't have to like it."
*later*
Obi-Wan: "Hey, guys, I really think we should trust Anakin. I mean, he's ludicrously powerful. We really should trust this guy."
Y&M: "Man, no way. He's too old. We should have sent him back to Tattooine."
Obi-Wan: "You guys are really blind, aren't you? I mean, you don't even see that if we did that, he'd be a danger, do you?"
Y&M: "Lightsabers are cool."
*even later*
Anakin: "Hey, Mace, I think something's up with the Supreme Chancellor. I think he might be a bad guy."
Mace: "I don't trust you. Stay here under heavy guard while I go check this out. With my Jedi Posse. My Josse."
Anakin: "But I want to help!"
Mace: "No, way, kid. You stay here. I don't like you. See this scowl? It's my scowl of 'I don't like Anakin.' Deal."
Anakin: "Man, and they call me petulant and whiny."
Every chance they had to show this kid some trust and show him that they weren't complete jerks, they blew back in his face. If they'd stuck him with Yoda, taught him to start at the beginning and go from there, actually instilled in him some humility and some understanding of the enormity of what lay ahead of him - none of that would have happened.
I realize it's an object lesson in what happens when you stay bound up in tradition and dogma instead of being flexible and adaptable (Qui-Gon's adherence to the Living Force, for instance, instead of strictly following the edicts of the Council, are an early indication of this)... but DAMN. Obstinate, Yoda is. Cloudy, the future is. Always in motion. Cloudier still, when refuse to open your eyes, you do.
