Most of the time when I play I see players who are suppose to be playing prepared casters not preparing spells. When the dm ask them what spell they want to cast that play flips through their core rule book, they don’t even keep track of a spell book much less keep track of prepared spells for the day. In the game the spontaneous casters have less spells available to them and even get spell later and this is all to have the freedom of not preparing spells and not keeping a spell book. At neoncon word of power was stated as a way for wizards to cast on the fly, this makes sense as a legal way for those who are NOT playing by the rules to play by the rules and still not have to do the prep-work. My question…
Since many are not doing the prep work and spontaneous casters are limited in exchange as a class for not doing prep work what is to be given to spontaneous casters to balance this out?
I’d like more spells per day, I know spontaneous casters get more spells but the prepared casters get almost the same amount by use of the domain slot and school slot.
I ask this here because "words of power" looks to be re-vamping the way we cast spells but I wish it could be balanced to where no one has to prepare or keep a spell book but spontaneous casters can make up the difference in spells perday since they are getting spells a level behing prepared classes.
So wait wizards you play with arent writing down what spells they prepared? That is just plain cheating. And as for words of power, according to the playtest document we saw a ways back:
" If a wordcaster belongs to a class that prepares spells,
she must prepare her words of power spells as well,
deciding in advance the exact combination of words that will occupy each of her available spell slots."
So words of power dont bypass the need to prepare spells, all they do is make those spells in theory more flexible (with a greater variety of combinations).

I think Kolo pretty well nailed it if the players want to hand waive spell prep then be a spont caster other wise your cheating it up.
They may just be reading off the full description. If it is not a spell they cast often they may need a refresher on the details. Doesn't mean the player didn't chose the spell in advance.
Yeah, the player should prepare, or memorize if you want to be old school, their spells by reading the Core Book and other sources ahead of time, not by "spontaneously" reading the book later to see how the spells work.

No one in any circle I have been in (barring the 5 yr old daughter of a GM who "played" with us on occasion) does that. Especially with nice tools like Perrams Spell Card Generator to generate an exact list of spells in ones spell book The GM can even make his own quick ref with Excel to record how many of each you have prepped. But personally I just laminate my spell cards and wet erase marker how many memorizations I have made of each spell (1, 2, 3, whatever) somewhere easily visable for me and the GM
