The Wolfman seeks players for his impromptu high powered planescapey magical girl PBP

Gamer Connection

i, the wolfman am offering to run a homebrewed improvised planescapy magical girls campaign.

everything will be improvised, no maps, figures nor intense planning.

the following character creation goodies are given

everybody starts out 6th level with 50 point buy and 20,000 gold worth of starting equipment and a free bonded object. no stat is allowed to fall below 12 after racial modifiers. everybody gets 4 traits, no more than 2 of which may come from the same category.

the following 3.5 edition unearthed arcana variants are used

reserve points

class defense bonus

any sentient offical pathfinder race (including 0 hit die monsters from bestiary 1 and 2) is allowed except the drow noble, svirfneblin and similarly powerful races

your pc must be a young girl, by racial standards, no younger than '9' and no older than '14' (or racial equivalents)

your bonded object can be any item type you wish of which you can afford the crafting cost

item creation feats are otherwise banned as are save or die spells, save or suck is fine though

everybody gets to gestalt 1 full spellcasting class but thier other half must be either a noncaster or partial caster

prestige classes are banned

xp is non existent, you level when i think your deeds are sufficient to do so.

stacking multiple powers onto your bonded object has a 20% discount instead of a 50% markup.

any material used must have been published by paizo.

I'm actually a bit interested in this since it sounds like it could end up being hilariously fun, a bit more information(world wise) would be nice though. As well I have no clue what those 3.5 Unearthed arcana variants are, should I? Another question if item creation feats are banned then how will we be stacking powers into the bonded object? Do we simply pay full price whenever we would normally wish to upgrade the object or will it simply be made as powerful as it ever will be at character creation? Also just to make sure is the Changeling race(from Haunting of Harrowstone) allowed? I think I can come up with a fairly good concept with a Changeling and it would be pretty cool if at some point her mother came looking to collect her xD

Also since you said Paizo-Only things what about Playtest classes such as the Magus/Gunslinger/Ninja/Samurai?

I'll definitely bite, going to go with human Rogue/Sorcerer, this is strangely reminding me of a few anime series that I have seen.

Daveth here are the variant rules he was refering to:

Reserve Points.

Class Defence Bonus.

Will draw up more for a character soon, just wondering though, is this still going to be Golarion/Fantasy style gameplay, or more gritty and grungy for lack of a better term.

just wondering what style of world/gameplay you will be using.

A serious question, with no offense intended--I just want full clarity on the purpose of this up front:

Is this going to be fun and non graphic?

Or is this going to get in any way possibly perceived as squicky? (I of course saw this after reading a certain thread on this board elsewhere, so certain hackles are raised.)

Because part of me is like OOH! OOH! I CAN BE UTENA! AASIMAR PALADIN OR CAVALIER! I WANT TO PLAY MAGICAL HERO!

(And, okay, to be fair, Revolutionary Girl Utena is probably FAR more squicky by itself than anything you are trying to do, as it's a dark--though *very* not graphic--shoujo series, but I would not want to play a creepy character.)

And part of me is like, *sees requirement MUST be 9-14 and starts imagining all the reasons why, and sees very fun fluffy good ones and very scary creepy ones*

I have a low squick tolerance, especially low with relative strangers on message boards.

So I ask, up front, rather than dive in and realize I've terribly misunderstood something.

Really, really, no offense intended--I just want information.

Just a--"Yes, DQ, this is just a fun thing," or "No DQ, I don't mean to do anything bad, but I don't think this is for you, just in case," is fine.

Also, "No, DQ, you cannot play Utena," is also an acceptable answer. :)

Feel free to respond via email if you prefer -- deathquaker at gmail.

Utena squicky? Only if you take the work one HUGE step to left. I will say that it is one of the darkest series I have ever watched, EVA is little more than a headache inducing experiment in philosophy in comparison. Now And Then, Here and There is a close runner up, however.

Sorry for going OT Wolfman.

Bearing in mind Utena is one of my Very Very Favorite Things Ever (TM) (I am listening to the soundtrack as I write this)...

In Utena, the squick happens in your head. You never see anything. It's more the sensation that crawls across as you discover, for example, just what exactly Anthy is doing on her special Saturday nights.

Or, let me put it this way: Utena is a tasteful series. But it tastefully deals with squicky things at times. There are times when you watch the show and suddenly remember the main characters are 14 years old and go "... oh."

(And then OTOH you have the episodes where one of the supporting cast turns into a cow.)

What makes it not too creepy--but still dark--is that the series does not condone the squicky things that happen. The show is not about enjoying squicky things. It is in fact about the 14 year old main characters getting past the squick interfering with their lives and learning to deal with the world.

(And because shoujo series are in general indeed, about young women dealing with their adolescence, the magical girl subgenre included, there's a lot of ways people go about "dealing with adolescence," hence my desire to have some clarity on the intent of the proposed game. I'm not, really not, suspecting anything untoward. But I do want to know a little more about what to expect.)

EVA does beat Utena in mind boggling trippiness by a good factor, although Adolescence Mokushiroku (the Utena movie) gave it a DAMN good run for its money. (Never again will there be a movie where one of the most memorable quotes is, "It's a big mistake to think you're the only one who can turn into a car!")

I have not seen Now and Then, Here and There but I have heard such things. I've also heard it's really depressing.

Back to your regularly scheduled game recruitment.

One of my favorite episodes. One of the few series to make me like a filler ep. I needed the break from all the seriousness at that point.

The movie made my head explode, and not in the good way. A good friend was shocked that I watched the movie while sober/not high.

upgrading the bonded object still gets the crafting discount. other uses of the feats are banned.

i will also allow the playtest documents and the changeling.

you just need to provide the changeling's racial information in your profile.

the pbp is going to be the opposite of serious. i was hoping for more of a lighthearted feel with a series of plays on various magical girl tropes. it may be slow going, but it's going to rely on the players to provide the feel.

there will be a lot of planar travel and most settings will be somewhat accomodated at some point.

i will possibly provide a cute mascot with plane shifting ability.

the assumed 'base' is Lisgi, a poorly named roughly homebrewed anarchic 'city' between planes within a constant state of flux. it is constantly changing and through concentration, one can shape the path to thier destination.

and everything is going to be roughly improvised.

Question, if I were to go say Sorceress/Gunslinger or Alchemist/Gunslinger(since I doubt Magus would be an allowed as my spellcasting class no matter how much it fits with my plans xD) would I be allowed access to the Advanced Firearms?

I would love to get into this, thinking a Battle Angel Alita, barbarian/(something divine, maybe oracle or cleric), inspired glaive user. Could do sorcerer. As long as I have scrying and blasting capabilities.

RPG Superstar 2015 Top 8

Then, if you will have me, I would like to propose playing a genki tomboy whose abilities are fueled by the Power of Friendship (TM). I would like pink armor, a magic sword, a teacup, and a sparkly pony.

Currently looking at Sorcerer with the Destined Bloodline/Cavalier of the Dragon. (Also toying with an Arcane Duelist idea.) I know I said aasimar before but I may do Half-Elf instead.

I am NOT very familiar with the Unearthed Arcana rules, including the gestalt stuff, so I will review them. If you would prefer players with experience in that area, I understand.

I'll get to creating the character soon, havent got much time tonight.

Was thinking of changing the class and concept a little, Monk/Sorcerer, basing it loosely off Steel Angel Kurumi, REALLY low intelligence, or at least played that way, stronger melee fighter with magic playing a smaller role, pretty much the big dumb ditz that is completely oblivious to most common sense things...

I've always had a fondness for the Sailor Moon series so I'd like to give this one a go.

Since I've seen plenty of sorcerer types already, I'm thinking a Paladin/Water Oracle combination for this one.

Just one clarification when you say 50 point buy are you saying 50 pts as per Pathfinder point buy or some other formula?

And have you heard of the Big Eyes Small Mouth system?

I'm extremely intrigued. I've always wanted to play Gestalt game and I've wanted to since i saw it in unearthed arcana. I have been playing D&D since AD&D, so I'm nothing resembling a noob. However, I've never played using forums before. I won't need any help with the pathfinder system, but I will need assistance at first with the playing online part.

Also I've not watched a lot of anime. Some of your references are lost on me. I do know sailor moon though.

If you'll have me I'd be excited and elated to play. I've got character ideas rolling around in my head already. I'm leaning toward wizard/rogue or fighter (smart, but not worldly) or druid/ranger or barbarian (raised by wolves at first then found by militant woodspeople).

I have actually played Big Eyes Small Mouth (BESM) before

I LOVE the besm game. Never got enough people interested in playing it though.

Ive wanted to play a BESM game for some time, I've never actually played but Ive had a chance to look over the system and it looks interesting to say the least.

I played one game. I rather liked it. It reminds me of a marvel universe type game. My character was a stretchy/inky/incorporeal-at-will type. He was amusing to play.

It's strange- I *SHOULD* love BESM, but I don't. Not sure why.

SO just for fun I'm putting together an elven Sniper rogue (APG)/wiz conjurer (teleportation school specialist from APG).
My general character concept is "smart gothy girl with an attitude."

All in all it's a very interesting character, but not overly powerful. I rather like the gestalt concept for multi-classing.

Can you clarify bonded object please?

It works like a wizards bonded object I assume. What if I am a wizard? Do I get a bonded object and a familiar?

To throw my hat in the ring as it were.

My candidate for entry is Lucerya, Champion of the Seas, LG Paladin/Oracle whose mystery is Waves and her curse is Tongues. Her companion is her faithful steed Aquilina, the Horse of Land, Sea, and Sky which alternates between the forms of Horse, Hippocampus, and Pegasus... each marked with a unicorn horn naturally. :)

Her weapon is the magical Trident of the Seas which transforms to a small charm when she is not in her Champion form.

Update:
Evelyn Salt is a tiefling girl who grew up in a rough neighborhood with very poor parents. She turned to crime without her parents knowledge at a very young age to secretly help make ends meet. One day she stole what she thought was just an expensive book. It turned out to be a spell book of a minor apprentice. She found that she was quickly able to understand the theories etc in the book. In time she developed an interesting skill set of magic and thievery. A combination of her secret exploits and her open adventuring career has allowed Evelyn to provide her parents with a very conformable retirement (If it helps story they can be deceased).

Very rough character sheet, hopefully got gestaltness right. Brief background at end which is subject to enhancement, elaboration, and change (right now I acknowledge it's a bit generic).

Calys, Aasimar Destined Sorcerer/Cavalier of the Dragon

Haven't figured out mount yet (was wondering if I could have pegasus or something with appropriate advancement penalty...). None of this set in stone--this is generally what I'm thinking.

If I/character is accepted can work on it from there and make any adjustments as necessary.

by 50 points, i do mean the pathfinder point chart.

i have been very busy for the last week with real life issues. and found a smal pocket of time to post.

if you are a wizard, you get both the bonded object and the familiar (since everyone is getting a free bonded object)

yes i will allow gunslingers access to advanced firearms. with or without alchemist, it does not matter.

and i will try my best to be very accomodating.

Guess which of you won slots
