Ok title says it all. Im really just gauging at this point to see if some people would be interested in this.
Im looking to possibly start a CC ap via Maptools and using voice on Ventrilo or skype (if skype conference calling is free). If we use ventrilo, I will supply the server. The game will be weekly or biweekly (not set in stone im still re-arranging my own schedule), and probably a weeknight using Eastern time on my end (Im in NYC).
Some requirements...
1) Adults please. Not that Im doing anything adult natured, just prefer older gamers as im kinda old myself. :)
2) 4 PC's and PFRPG core only. APG is ok, but no 3rd party stuff yet.
3) Please no min/max'ers or character hoppers. Id rather have interesting PC concepts that you would like to play long term instead.
4) DO NOT post characters here, Just let me know if you are interested and what kind of character (class and a small concept paragraph) you would like to play.
5) Please WAIT till the Carrion Crown Player's Guide is out if you can for your concepts. Should be up early this week iirc from an Erik Mona post, as you will be able to take 2 traits (one of course a campaign trait from the guide).
Now for an interesting twist (at least I hope so)....
I may start us at sort of "0-level" and do a "prequel" Crypt of the Everflame using NPC classes (level 1 Warriors, Adepts (if you are planning on a caster type in CC), etc), these will disappear when we finish Everflame and are about to start the actual AP. Everflame encounters will be downshifted to accomodate this. The NPC classes will be replaced by your normal classes at level 1 in time for the AP, though you may be a few hundred XP into 1st level from Everflame when we begin the actual AP.
The 0 level everflame is just an idea I had wanted to try as an AP prequel, based on Goodman Games' 0-level module idea. It isnt set in stone and if folks would rather skip it, thats fine too.
So.... "got interest?™"
p.s. This wont start for a few weeks as I need time to read the Player's Guide myself as well as the first module when it's released, though the everflame prequel could be sooner.

I have to admit, I'm intrigued. I need to learn to use something like maptools for my own group that has become spread far and wide and I certainly have no other options for playing Carrion Crown right now, unless through pbp. I think it'd be fun to try this out.
No character ideas until I get a chance to read the Player's Guide though.

Sounds interesting...
Not too sure about the zero level thing, but okay...
7-11 or maybe 12
A start time of 7 would be 4 my time...
Depending on the day of the week, that may be a little too early for me...
When do you think you'll know how your schedule will look for running this (after you're finished getting things re-arranged)?

I'm potentially interested as well. Like Digitalelf, though, I'm in California, so the timing might be awkward depending on when it is.
Potential character options, after only a brief look, are:
-Changeling Rogue (pending review of Changeling race)
-Dreamspun Sorcerer (possibly Dhampir or Fetchling)
-Witch, Shadow or Plague patron (Human or Tiefling)
-Half-Elf Necromancer (Ancestral Arms alternate)
Namtarou
If you turn this into a pbp, I would be interested (I'm living in France so my times would not be good ..and I'm sure nobody wants to hear me trying to speak something I claim to be English).
Potential character options would be (first glance) :
- Elf wizard (I have a fondness for the universal or conjuration schools)
- Barbarian (superstitious/totem warrior ; human or half elf)
- Dwarven ranger

My character ideas are really numerous. I'll play whatever "fits" with the rest of the party and setting. I'm a big fan of making the flavor and roleplaying work. I don't like to min/max, nor am I any good at it :-P

If you end up playing on Fridays and starting later/running later, I'd definitely want to put forward an application for a Cleric of Pharasma. I'll watch the thread and see what you decide. I'm honestly intrigued by a Realtime Maptools sort of thing - I don't have the amount of time in my week to devote to gaming that I'd like, but blocking off a few hours late Friday night shouldn't be a problem. As for starting earlier on other weekdays, my kids go to bed about 9PM EST, so I don't know that I'd be able to do something like that.
I would additionally like to highly recommend Wander Wier as a player. I recently flamed out on a CoT campaign that he was a player in (due to the aforementioned time issues), but he proved himself to be a very dedicated player before I had to shut things down.

btw, If times arent good for most people for whatever reason, we could turn this into a pbp. I prefer a live game of course, but we'll see how it goes.
Well, I vote for a late Friday night game. It was the "live" aspect that made this intriguing for me, so if it goes pbp I would have to respectfully decline...
That said however, my character concept would be for a simple Varisian Fighter that may or may not dip into Rogue for a level or two at some point...

Here's what I meant to say
I have a few great characters I've been waiting to play. I too have a summoner that is a gnome tinkerer. He wears heavy armor and a construct like eidolon. He's part of a band of mercenaries that explore the bottom of the oceans for treasure and on contract. The eidelon and the gnome can breathe water (gnome via spell)
I'd also love to roll a "professor." Basically a bard that will prestige class into Loremaster. He can be one of your historians if you like or an intellectual from one of the world's colleges or governments. I'll spin him however you like.
On the less lawful side. I'd love to roll a rogue/spy. His story is also flexible. I imagine him as a trafficker in information or agent from a local guild of secretive ranger types that handles all of their "urban affairs."
Wander Weir
Thanks for the recommendation, Jeremiziah. One of the reasons that I'm interested in joining in on this particular game is that I'd enjoy the opportunity to play with you again.
I'm fine with 15 point buy. I think I can do Friday nights, though my schedule is getting a little unstable right now. I'll confirm that when I know for sure.
I'm mulling over a rogue character of some sort who travels with one of the freak shows/ menageries. But that's just one idea of several.
Sunderstone
15 point buy or 20 makes no difference to me. Out of curiousity, what's making you consider that change?
For once, I just wanted to run with a little less heroic bonuses than my previous RL games. It's not a big difference until later levels when PC bonuses make things too easy at times.
This is one time I'll let the players decide, im ok with 15 or 20.I'm also ok with a Friday night later start by the way.
Jeremiziah

Well, then, I'd certainly be interested. I'd vote 20 Point buy, but I would be flexible either way.
I have everything I need for a Ventrillo setup. I have basically no experience using Maptools, though - although from a PC standpoint, I can't imagine it'd be too tough. I'll dig into it this weekend.
Have you run Maptools games before? Are we looking at full utilization of the tool, with Fog of War and everything, or a more basic setup?
My Cleric of Pharasma would be a rather glum and morose fellow. He'd have consulted with the good Professor on the mundane details of the history of Pharasman rites at some point in the past (Teacher's Pet trait, gaining bonus to Knowledge: Religion). He'd likely use the Repose and Healing domains.

Don't download maptools yet we all have to have the same version. I'll let you know the version I have when I get home. You can get the latest java though, maptools uses java
I've had maptools for a couple of months now, I have version 1.3-b74 (which I believe was the latest version at the time)...
I'm okay with a 15 point buy. But will go along with whatever...

I'm a little late to the party(looks like you already have your 4), but I'd be interested. Also Eastern Time (upstate NY). Time is good for me (Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are bad, but Friday is good as long as it doesn't go too late-6am work on Saturdays. 15 point buy should be goos, would be looking at playing a fighter.

Ok, I'm looking at Karlos VanSaven, human (Varisian) fighter. He is a blacksmith who travelled with the Professor on many of his adventures, keeping the horses shod and wagons working. Along the way, he got into quite a few scraps, and found he had a talent for bloodshed.
What are we doing for starting wealth?
How do you feel about the heirloom weapon trait? If you'd allow it, I'll probably switch him from blacksmith to weaponsmith and say he travelled with the professor keeping everyone's weapons in shape...
Current traits: World Traveller(Knowledge Local), On the Payroll.

I think I have 1.3.82 and 1.3.75 on my laptop. Don't know what I have on my desktop. If you like, I can dupe my token and resource files so that you can use them. I've been using it to sketch maps for PBP games, then uploading partial screenshots to GoogleDocs. I've never tried actually running a game through it, though, so that would be interesting.
As far as what I'd like to play, I'll withdraw my possible Rogue. It sounds like there are others who are interested in playing that, and I'm getting an impression that the Changeling race won't be quite what I'm used to from Eberron. I may switch back to that, though, depending on what they do with it. Such might necessarily change specific aspects of the background. 15 or 20 point buy are both fine with me.
I'd like to throw in a Necromancer for consideration. He/she had the opportunity to work with Herr Professor on the subject of Necromancy and to discuss its inherent moral contradictions, debates and questions. Siv, as he/she prefers to be called, grew up in Geb and studied at one of the arcane academies there. The Professor came to lecture and to study for a time, and Siv chose to return with him so they could talk and so he/she could get a broader education. (Campaign Trait either Teacher's Pet or On The Payroll).

I must offer my sincere apologies to all (especially Sunderstone), for I will not be able to participate in this upcoming game. After careful consideration, I feel that I simply do not have the time I thought I would to devote to such an endeavor...
Happy gaming to all involved...

Start time on a Friday night can be whatever is good for the group.
What time is good for you?
What time is good for anyone else in this thread?| Olondir |
Hello,
I just wanted to say I am interested. I have used maptools from a players perspective and familiar with most voice clients(Skype/Vent/Mumble). I could play whatever would balance out the party.
That being said, is there any chance we could do this Wednesday nights? Fridays do not work well for me.

Character Sheet & Backgroun in Profile for this Alias
Also, Same Background Spoilerized:
Karlos VanSaven was born to Boris and Velta VanSaven of Tamrivena. Boris was a successful weaponsmith, passing his skills and knowledge to his son, who began his apprenticeship as soon as he could hold the tools. Boris was a patient teacher, and demanded patience of his son in return, insisting that no task be assumed before it could physically and mentally be completed. Karlos learned to know how to do a thing completely before attempting to do it, and to see it through completion once started.
When he had learned enough and grew strong enough to complete the basics of weapon and armor smithing, Karlos was sent to Ravengro to meet Professor Lorrimor, a trusted friend of Boris’ who needed a smith to accompany an expedition and maintain the hired mercenaries’ gear. In truth, Boris desired to have his son’s horizons expanded, feeling Karlos’ destiny to be more than that of a local weaponsmith’s. To further inspire Karlos to greatness, he presented a superbly crafted Bec deCorbin that he had crafted for a commissioner who passed away before it-and payment- was completed. “When you complete a weapon of this quality, you may return to Tamrivena and take over my shop. Until then, you are to learn what you can from the Professor.”
The Professor was glad to have the skilled young man, and in a typical fashion, provided generous payment, flexibility of work, and exposure to a broad range of cultural experiences. Karlos’s skills flourished, but the travelling and constant work made it difficult to spend the quality time needed for a true masterwork. When one of the Professor’s expeditions was attacked and a few of the mercenary guards defeated, Karlos was forced to use his father’s pole arm to aid the remaining forces in driving off the attack. Karlos learned quite a bit about the utility of the weapons he had been building and maintaining that day, and found a new passion for the practice of weapon usage.
Karlos began practicing with many different types of weapons, offering to become one of the Professor’s guards as well as his smith. He grew closer to the mercenaries and began a second apprenticeship in the art of war. Still, none of the weapons he had created, maintained, or repaired were of the quality of the pole arm given to him by his father, so he has become focused almost to the point of obsession with that particular weapon, dedicating himself to the form and utility of this weapon.
Karlos has just been informed of the professor’s passing and his placement in the professor’s will. He is shocked that the Professor thought so well of him, but feels duty bound to honor the Professor’s wishes.

Just a quick character concept,
Half-elf, Magus, Adopted into a Human noble house by his "father" who found him swaddled in blankets in the arms of a dead elf woman while on a hunting trip. He buried the elven woman and was ready to kill the infant when he noticed the child had none of the elf's features. He took him back to his wife and they agreed to raise the child like their own. The father a magus of some power was proud to finally have someone he could show the ways of his order.
Will work up the specifics on the order and the family if approved.

Ok, I was just going by the Players Guide Classes, with a few minor changes he is now an Inquisitor.

Sorry I've been slow to respond. It's been a busy weekend and I've been trying to figure out just what my schedule actually is. So far, I haven't been able to work it out exactly.
Anyway, the end result of all this seems to be suggesting that I don't actually have the time to commit to the game as I'd hoped. I'm terribly sorry...I'd love to take part in this game online but my schedule is just too unsettled right now.
So please allow me to gracefully bow out, with regrets.
Sunderstone
Just got the email to download the first module, I've been looking forward to this. I'm on my iPhone so I'll download it when I get home and start reading.
Final stuff...
This will be a Friday (weekly/bi-weekly,depending on the group) night game from 9:30-12 or 12:30 latest.
Maptools/ventrilo- have a headset.
15 point buy, max starting gold and hp, two traits, core/apg only for now
So farReckless, you are in with your Fighter. Still waiting for more character summaries. I'll close recruitment in a week or so, unless we don't have enough.
Sorry you can't make it Wander :( , was looking forward to you concept submission.

If you could put up with an Australian accent, I'm definitely interested.
Concept is Gnome Druid, wearing heavy darkwood armour, definitely thinking of air domain or fire domain instead of animal companion.
also, although my I am awake all hours of the day, randomly due to work, Sunderstone, could you please tell me what your timezone is according to GMT, I'm GMT +10 hours (Sydney), just need to know so that i can set alarms to know what time the game will start, if you choose my character concept that is...thanks.

A Gnome with an Australian accent/dialect. I could get into that. XD
