Planar Migrant Error?

Pathfinder Second Edition General Discussion

Rage of Elements, page 45, has the background Planar Migrant, which by all appearances is just a normal background, giving two boosts, a skill, a lore skill, and a skill feat... except it also gives a free level 3 general feat on top all that, which it erroneously refers to as a skill feat, thus making it simply stronger than any other background for no reason. This can't be intentional, can it?

Ehn, it's rare and it's not a particularly good general feat and its thematic to the background.

Slightly problematic from a technical power creep standpoint but I'm not going to let it bother me.

Yes, it is slightly more powerful than an average background but it is also rare. What it gives you isn't incredibly powerful or game breaking, and is appropriate for the kind of background the character has.

Ultimately, it's not a problem in my opinion.

Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it does. And we get no guidance on which is which.

For backgrounds, there are a few Rare backgrounds that can be arguably considered better. This is the only one I know of that is objectively better. It may be a target for errata and not an exception to confirm the rule.

The amnesiac background is more power than planar migrant strictly speaking

Objectively better in the sense that it grants an extra feat, yes. But that feat is also on the very low end of power.

I was specifically thinking about this one (I'm running a PF2 version of Strange Aeons so all the PCs have it).

Yes, it is both objectively better and arguably worse :D

Well, it's so much more powerful than the Common "Once Bitten" background that gives you Undead Lore and Battle Medicine...

I guess you win ?
