Astral Projection

Does Astral Projection work from other planes than the material? Specifically, if a tiefling wizard in say Hades were to cast the spell, could she project to the material plane?

I ask this because I’m considering a tactic whereby a wizard would plane shift to a nice place, like Arborea or something, and Astrally Project back to the material before embarking on hazardous adventures.

Look forward to the input.

All you need to cast this spell is access to the Astral Plane. Since almost all of the planes are in contact with the Astral, you can pretty much start anywhere and end up anywhere; you can even start and end on the same plane. It's a pretty powerful spell, and a classic example of a spell that changes the very nature of how the game is played.

Another player in my epic group has used Astral Projection to do just that. We looked over the rules because it seems pretty crazy, but it hasn't broken the game yet. In fact, its a disadvantage in some cases, becuase a successful dispell will put you out of commision. Also, we have ruled that if your projected body is killed, any items that you aquired wile projecting are left when it fades.

Wow!

That and the Hey-Look-I'm-a-Troll-But-Not-Really-I'm-Just-Using-Magic-Jar-and-I'm-Going- to-Kill-You-Now trick are really fun!

Sexi Golem posted a fun spell trick a while back- cast an area effect spell with a duration, like Summon Swarm or Acid Fog, and then cast Otiluke's Resilient Sphere on someone in the area. Now, they're trapped in a little ball with all the nastiness you just put out there and no where to run, so long as they fail the Ref save. I rule that, on things like Summon Swarm and some others, the area outside the Sphere would dissipate, and the area inside would have a lessened effect due to smaller quantity of ouchiness, but the tactic remains sound considering the fact that, again, failing a Ref save, the person is trapped in that little ball. It's also a great way to buy time in a battle to heal and buff and get into a good tactical position.

This is why spellcasters rule. Even if a fighter has 15 different options in combat using various feats and weapons, the fact remains that they are a one-trick pony. They hit thigns with weapons and kill them. Spellcasters can do soooo much more, on and off the battlefield. Viva la magic!

Aww, you remembered! I feel like its my birthday.

I'll see that tactic and raise you one: Use the "Hey-Look-I'm-a-Troll-But-Not-Really-I'm-Just-Using-Magic-Jar-and-I'm-Going -to-Kill-You-Now trick"; and Astral Projection at the same time (in case anyone was wondering, yes I do think that's getting carried away - still)!

I'll go even better- do all of the above, but also be a lich with your phylactery hidden in a secret lair on some lower plane. You have nothing, I mean NOTHING to fear!

Throw Project Image into the mix too and really confuse the crap out of 'em. ;)

You guys warm the cockles of my heart (whatever a cockle is).

According to a previous post on the boards, it's a Tiny creature with the special ability of Immolate Heart. :-D

Yes, I seem to remember such a reference to a cockle.... :)
