On Monday, the kids are supposed to dress in Cuban-inspired clothes/props for class promo photos for the annual school Gala. I'm planning on sending Val in his grey wool sweater, a Santa beard and moustache, a plush toy cat, and a copy of "The Old Man and the Sea"
That reference is going to go over so many heads...I love it.

OK, I am tickled pink and a sexist pig at the same time.
After trying unsuccessfully over the last few months to get a will and trust attorney (they never called back), I tried a different tactic and called the first female attorney on the list.
And she answered on the second ring.
And is utterly delightful.
And is an absolute, utterly stereotypical, every-time-she-talks-I-grin Jewish grandmother.
I have no idea whether she's actually Jewish, nor whether she's actually a grandmother, but holy cow we've only spoken on the phone twice and I am already utterly charmed.
This should be a fun will!
EDIT: Best line of the conversation: "Now, go on in on the ground floor past the green gate on the right, dear! If you go up the stairs you'll get chicken poop. If you go through the gate you'll get a will and trust. You can choose which you'd like."

Hi, everyone! Wish I was feeling better today. Last night's Chicken Ramen dinner gave me indigestion, that has lasted through now. So, it's relatively bland/mild stuff today for me. *sigh* Growing old really does suck.
Did you cook it yourself or was it take out stuff? Probably a good idea to start seeing what are your food triggers.

Geez, it's amazing how much you can learn VERY quickly once you start will planning.
- I don't "own" 10% of my parents' trust, because there's no such thing. I'm a co-trustee on it, and we're just "pretending" that we "own" portions of it.
- The difference between an "executor" and a "power of attorney" is that one is in charge once you're dead ("executor") and one's in charge when you're alive but incompetent ("power of attorney"). And notice the amazing ability to avoid political jokes on that one...
- Our life insurance is truly ridiculous. The kids can live safely at home through college and the first 10 years of their marriages in this house without having to work a day.
I am *SO* not telling them that.

There is always some arm-twisting getting me to see a CGI film.Yea…
I'm kind of like that too. While these movies are great for kids (and I'll watch em with kids), they often don't really capture me that well. I don't go that often to the movies, so if I'm going it for something I really, really, really want to see.
All that said, recently it will require even more arm-twisting to get me to see a Marvel/DC movie, as I'm suffering from sever super hero fatigue.Ugh, I know what you mean. I'm still a sucker for the supers genre, but after seeing X-Men Apocalypse and Justice League I've begun approaching the whole genre with extreme trepidation.
(It's not just those two movies that did it, they just really highlighted the supers-ism of "Aim our one unstoppable godlike super at the otherwise invincible bad guy, win." Doesn't work in TTRPGs, doesn't work in team movies.)
Yea, that's kind of another gripe with them...
Also just kind of wish they would deviate from the "mold" of superhero stories and venture into other territories.Actually I am keep an eye on one Supers Project out of curiosity (a tv show instead though).

Okay, I know that no one on FAWTL gives a darn, but the trailer for the new Fosse/Verdon series was just released, and I've been waiting for this show since it was announced last summer, and OMFG.
Well, I'll be seeing it opening day. Does that count?
I pretty much loathe all biographies, because telling the true story of an amazing person isn't enough for Hollywood, and they have to turn it into something twisted, convoluted, and unrecognizable.
I successfully sat through Bohemian Rhapsody. I'll give it that much.
But GothBard desperately wants to see it, very likely for the same reasons you do, and I honestly hope that it manages to live up to your expectations.
I am, er, less optimistic.
Yea, must say I'm not really that into "biographical movies" either for precisely the same reasons you've mentioned. Now if they label it a "fiction based on true events" well...at least I can then turn a bit more of my brain off (Which is what I view most of the biographical or historical work that come out of Hollywood to be).
Haven't actually seen Bohemian Rhapsody as I'm not really that interested in it...then again I'm of the somewhat blasphemous opinion that Queen really wasn't all that great either (Alright, just not phenomenal).
Panic attack again. But the preschool understands and agreed to let me stay on as a sub for those days they don't overcome me and keep me from working. So that's nice. My boss was very understanding.
It's nice to hear that you've seemed to have found a workplace where their willing to listen and reach out to you about your difficulties and problems. That's incredibly valuable for people like us who have mental issues.

It was an interesting morning, to be sure. Exploding shower drains, flooded bathrooms, and <redacted for extreme political implications and hornets nest> aside, and sinuses, I’m doing well. How are you guys?
We had massive flooding in our area and our septic tank got all messed up so we are staying in a hotel for a few days. Fortunately I work at a hotel so that's not so bad. Getting to work super easy.

There is some truth to that LM.
In many ways I do need some new pastures to waddle about in as the job at the horsebreeder was getting to me. My coworker weren't all bad, but most of them were unfortunately rather uncooperative and unwilling to work on a efficient and organized distribution of the required daily routines and assignments (aka "It ain't my job" or "can't you do it instead").
So in essence I became that grumpy guy who wanted to put everyone to work (so we can get done earlier) which wasn't that appreciated. I'm by no-ways a happy or eager worker (In fact I'll grumble al the way to and from work), but once I'm there I do like getting shit done and over with.
So Yea it might be for the best that my contract wasn't renewed. The only down side with the new temp job at the riding-school/riding sport club is that I'll be working Saturdays (only a short roughly 4 hour shift though). To compensate though I'll be Mondays off, so I still have a "two day weekend".

I'm actually looking forward to getting started come Thursday…

Gods, nothing shows you just how overwhelming modern life is than trying to prepare a document for your son so he can take over as head of household if you die unexpectedly.
"All" I'm trying to do is provide him with a nice list: "Do this stuff immediately. Do this stuff within the first 2 weeks. Do this stuff within the first month. Now here's the ongoing stuff you'll need to deal with after that.
And *all* I did was start listing all the companies with whom we do business that he needs to know about.
Once I broke 50, I knew I was going to have to categorize things differently for him.
As Impus Major so wisely said, "Dad, please be sure to stay alive until you finish that document."

Most of my anger at my own dad when he died was for the mess he left behind... no will, no instructions, no "here's where I put everything important", nothing. Most of the important papers were in a box in his storage shed under a load of garbage, and we didn't find it until years after we closed out his estate. (Last summer, to be precise. Ten years after his death. Little details like the mortgage paperwork on his house. We only managed to sell it without them because Florida.)
Thank all the gods that my mother and I have had "the talk" about end-of-life decisionmaking, and that her last marriage was to a very good lawyer.

I spent most of my afternoon at my mother-in-law's.
She needs her roof re-done. And it's been layered over so many times that THIS time they need to rip everything off and start from scratch.
Yeah.
Remember how I've said she's a hoarder who's been living alone for forty years?
The house has a double attic.
Everything has to come OUT of the attic so the roof work can be done.
So I put on my army pants and borrowed WW's industrial respirator mask (allergies to dust and mold, plus the attic is filled with rat poop).
Today we managed to get through about 1/5 of one of the attics. (Pull boxes out, unpack them onto a tarp, photograph them, repack them in a clean box, label, catalog, and take to the rented storage unit nearby).
Most of it is family heirlooms left to my sister-in-law in Vermont by long-dead relatives that she will probably never actually come pick up (lots of crystal and china, but she has five boys between 2 and 12 in her house). A lot of it is just random crap that my mother-in-law saved over the years. There's a Look magazine from 1969 with Ho Chi Minh on the cover. There were Vogue magazines from the 70's. Why? Who knows. There were FOUR brownie cameras.
