It sure is windy out there.

Or maybe I'm just feeling the draft because I have no clothes on.

Yeah, that might do it. ;P

I actually had to turn on my heater this weekend.
My heater. In south Louisiana. In October.

Darn my 'OMG It's in the 70's i'm freezing' wife! ;P

Just remember what ol' Jack Burton does when the earth quakes, and the poison arrows fall from the sky, and the pillars of Heaven shake. Yeah, Jack Burton just looks that big ol' storm right square in the eye and he says, "Give me your best shot, pal. I can take it."

You want 5 cats? Aberzombie, are you NUTS?!? 5 cats will drive you totally crazy. Look at me! I have 6 cats in the house and I have lost all of my sanity long ago. Trust me, you do not want 5 cats in your house.

Soooo.....What you're saying is you're a creepy cat lady? The kind who'll eventually be found eaten by her pets?

Scarab Sages

Also, and as stated elsewhere - I believe that, thanks to this storm, I've finally pinpointed one of the main avenues by which water was getting into my basement. Applied some silicon sealer I had laying around and it seems to be holding. Huzzah!

Scarab Sages

On the other hand, I believe I've developed a sinus infection.

Batten down the hatches - and based on that link from Treppa, that's extended to the Great Lake area FaWTLs too.

FIFY. Yes. That about sums it up. Those evil, evil, evil creatures. They play all nice and are acting so loving. But when my guard is down, I will be cat food. ~paranoid look~ I must get ready!

I hope everyone affected by Sandy is doing well. Down here in NC, we're getting mild gusts and a little bit of rain, which I know doesn't compare to the mess up north. Stay warm/dry/powered-on!

Yay! One of the very few watcheable reality shows in existence has started a new season: A bunch of Swedish-Americans compete to meet their Swedish relatives by doing various silly tasks in different parts of Sweden.

Sadly there doesn't seem to be any bear-like Minnesotan truck drivers in it this year.

It's like a hurricane out there...

That's all the excuse I need for this link.

And while there's no hurricane over here, since about 13 hours ago there's been enough wind and rain that I'm happy I stocked up properly on food during the weekend.

Silver Crusade

I don't like the lights flickering.

Stay on, you damn lights!!!

Thankfully, I have not yet had this happen this time around.

be save, guys

Scarab Sages

According to all the weather reports I've been seeing, it's gonna get really bad in the next few hours as the storm center passes just south of Philly.

Winds are definitely picking up outside. Rain is coming in bands, some strong, some not so much.

Scarab Sages

I gotta say though, I think I'm hoping that work and daycare both open up tomorrow.

good luck AZ,

we are off to bed

I know from FB that our own Patrick Curtin has already lost power, as has another friend of mine on Long Island.

And this is just the storm's leading edge...

Good night, aeglos!

I wouldn't mind work being closed again tomorrow.

the western end of Long Island and all of Staten look to be in for some significant storm surge also.

It's quiet today. Hope everyone is weathering the storm well and continues to do so.

Are you going to stay above water, CH?

Wow. I was totally expecting some Scorpions there. System shock.

;-)

Prayers for all you Northeast FAWTLies.

I wonder if CH still has power and net access, Aberzombie also?

Good luck, guys.

Scarab Sages

Well, I have more water in my basement, but a lot less than I thought I'd have. And the rain looks to be slacking off between now and tomorrow. So, huzzah for that.

Still, the wind is picking up big time. And I realized I forgot to tie down my garbage cans but oh well.

Daycare is closed tomorrow. So the wife and I are probably both gonna stay home again - her to watch the boy, and me to clean up he basement.

Good luck, guys.

I've still got power here in Philly. The lights did flicker for a bit, so I shut the computer off. Thankfully, I've still got the phone, which I've been keeping charged.

Scarab Sages

Saw on the news that Atlantic City is getting the crap beat out of it.

Scarab Sages

Hope all my fellow north east Fawtly folk are doing ok in this thrice damned storm.

Scarab Sages

Just remember, if you gotta leave your place, come to my house! We'll have a party!

Scarab Sages

Of course, that invite is always open to all FAWTLY Folk!

Whaddaya say we take a boat trip over there?

In other news, I dropped my favourite tea-mug. :(

I am not feeling like crossing the Atlantic in that weather. I got headache for change from rain to snow (last Saturday I slept through 3/4th of the day)). I am not going to check how my meteoropathy reacts to hurricanes.

Scarab Sages

Mrgh.

I check out my amazon.com wish list and update my paperback collection. I'm almost done with Sword and Sorceress, I need to finish off Shadowrun next. In between, I collect manga that everyone seems to have forgotten about but me- currently Cannon God Exaxxion. I am truly incensed that Dark Horse has left the last two volumes in Japan.
How many volumes are there? I have the first 4 but find them too dark for me.

I believe there are 6 or 7. I'm surprised you found it dark, I found it pragmatic/astonishingly realistic, especially with regard to physics. Then again, I LOVED Yoshiyuki Tomino's Zambot 3, which really, really drove the point of "Never fight with giant robots in a populated area" home.

Going off to bed.

NE American FaWtLies, keep dry and warm.

On the completely unrelated topic: It's a shame that friend didn't get photos when she was dressed as maid on local gamers' micro-convention last weekend.

I've given it a lot of thought, and I've decided I like Facebook and Joss Whedon.

You are an abomination in the sight of the Lord.

Silver Crusade

Hi all! Doing fine here.

The power is still on, but for a time it was flickering a lot, so I thought it best to power down the computer. Everyone else I've been in touch with on Long Island though is in the dark.

Two huge trees have come down outside my apartment. One of them landed within 6 inches of somebody's car. I'm sure it scratched the paint, but in a moment like that, they'll have to just appreciate that if it had been a foot to the right, they would have had a tree trunk in their windshield.

It seems the rain has past, but the high winds will still be here through the night.
