I have a new recurring dream.
Basically, our car (the whole family is with me) breaks down or something in front of this old giant almost cartoonish house and for whatever reason someone gets pissed and wants to hurt us (or kill us in one version), so we have to navigate the house with it's profusion of hidden passageways trying to find a secret treasure while getting chased by whoever is chasing us.
We never find the treasure or whatever, but we usually escape the house.

If I was one of those psychologist that went for dream analysis (and I'm not) I would infer that dream had something to do with settling for a lesser objective then the main one but being ok with it. The person trying to hurt you is a sense of your time running out. whether you escape or not represents your current feelings on your life choices...
Of-course that is if you don't believe dreams are abstract nonsense. Even still dream interpretation is so abstract.

For me, a proper dish of Jamaican curry goat with a side of Irish (boiled potatoes), or failing that, birria.Because it's Oakland, we went to a house/goat-warming party last night. Some friends bought a new house, and then bought two pygmy goats.
I can look at, hold, etc. someone else's new baby and find it adorable and yet feel NO DESIRE WHATSOEVER to have another one of my own, but those chubby little kid goats?
Luckily my daughter started asking when we could get goats, too, so I could snap to my senses and start listing all the reasons it would be a bad idea.
Reason no. 1 where we live? Tragic coyote bait.

On Friday, I went over to Actual Lady Longears (Diamond Edition)'s house, where we got out the African recipe book (ALL (DE) is Afro-British; I am not) and cooked chicken in groundnut paste with rice, which was very nice. On Saturday, we went to the seaside, and it only rained a bit.
This morning, one of my friends was selling swords at an antique arms fair, so I went too, to give him a bit of support, and bought two yataghans for much, much less than I've seen them go for online. Shame that every other table was piled high with Nazi memorabilia...

Cartoon platypus I'd trade one of my dreams for it. I was trapped in a shopping mall and had to swim past an underwater passage to get out.

I tend to play characters who are more enthused about getting into whatever's going on.
Scint tends to play characters who are getting unexpectedly pulled into events or reluctantly going along with the plot because they have to more than a want or desire.
It's a pretty notable contrast since we tend to play together (when one or both of us isn't DMing, that is).
Not always! My PnP types tend to be more into things than my NWN characters.

Hey, NH, I'm remembering right that you have an Instant Pot right? I've been thinking about getting one, but I have many years of bad experiences with crock pots (Same recipe: crockpot version is flavorless mush; ingredients thrown in cast iron pot and slow cooked in the oven for hours, utterly amazing) and I've heard a few horror stories about cleaning dinner off the ceiling that have me feeling a bit uncertain about it. I'm big on putting in the least amount of effort possible to get really good food, so that is also a factor. In your opinion, good idea or bad idea to get one?
So, I'll be honest, I've only cooked potatoes, rice, a curry, and a spaghetti sauce in it, but here are direct responses:
The Instant Pot wins because its pressure relief valve ALSO locks the pot -- you CANNOT open it when it's at pressure, unless you're really determined and you get some tools just to break the lock so you can blow up potatoes all over your kitchen and complain about the pot's faulty safety mechanism. I steamed potatoes to make mashed potatoes (which I'm famous for), and NobodysWife and Impus Major declared the potatoes "the best [I've] ever made", which is high praise indeed -- I set a high bar with my potatoes.
My complaint is that the controls are so fricking arcane that you need to keep the instruction manual next to the pot to cook anything. Not good, Instant Pot. If you're selling yourself as an instant cooker and the technical lead of a department can't figure out how to make your pressure cooker steam potatoes for 20 minutes without resorting to the manual, you have a control issue.
In short, overall, it is NOT a miracle device. It's an "all in one" device that doesn't do anything remarkably well. But it is a safe pressure cooker if that's what you're looking for.

When I made the curry, the Instant Pot got "hot spots" that "burned" the curry (made it thicken and stick to the bottom, not really "burned"). Crock pots don't have this issue. So, "Not as good a slow cooker as a run-of-the-mill crock pot" may be a deal-breaker for you right there.
Set on "sautee" to make the "mush" I use as the basis for my curry sauce (garlic, onions, and tomatoes), it didn't generate as much heat as a good gas stovetop, so it took quite a bit longer to get the onions to brown and start disintegrating. So as usual, the "multi-use" pot isn't as good at individual things as those individual things are.
On the other hand, as a pressure cooker it's been excellent, and I have no idea how you guys blow them up. You DO know that there's an industrial-strength pressure-release valve built into every decent pressure cooker, so blowing it up requires a bit of safety device disablement, right?

interesting. Like most otaku, i use my rice cooker for everything, and like most carribean folk I look to the handy dandy pressure cooker for everything that wont fit in there. Slow cooker/crock pot is crazy white people/american technology, but I use that too, primarily for porridge.

Well, Shiro's AP continues to be all kinds of fun, but I'm beginning to worry about a couple of things:
But the point is, he's really, really good at running horror. We encountered some stuff that was amazing. I have some concern that other GMs might not run those sections as well.
"Just give the players WBL when they level up" isn't going to fly in a published module.
Fortunately, as expected my level 3 rogue performed admirably. Rogues are a nice arc, being effective from levels 3-6 or so before becoming useless. So I still have a few more levels of usefulness in me...

Thanks for the feedback! I already have a Japanese rice cooker so I don’t really need that function. Which means it’s probably not the best thing for me. (I did have to downsize from the 8 cup version of the rice cooker to the 4 cup version because we stopped having people over so much. The only real downside to that being that it’s much harder to make biryani in a 4 cup rice cooker.) I had a pressure cooker for a bit but got rid of it because it was hard to use. And crock pots and I don’t seem to get on because I don’t even know why. So all in all probably not much of a miracle appliance for me. Good to know. :)

So, I had her in my lap last night...
More seriously, a local restaurant was putting on a Valentine's Day burlesque show so NobodysWife insisted that we had to go. So "rough" weekend: Kreator and Sabaton Saturday night, then a burlesque Sunday.
Work's a bear today, but both Red Bone and Sadira were amazing dancers. Sadira was the best: "I'm going to make your jaws drop to the floor without taking my clothes off."
The musculature on that woman was nothing short of epic, and she could control every muscle in her body.
Just one of those performances that makes you go, "Holy carp! The human body is an amazing thing! And with enough training, what you can do with it is truly insane."
I don't know Sadira's history, but I'm guessing at least 6 years of professional dance school. She was that good.

Add the money that's required to be at WBL for level 3" is fine for a home game, but for a published module GMs are expecting loving depictions of heirloom jewelry decorated with emeralds and diamonds worth xxx; content that almost no one ever listens to (my tiefling life oracle was a clothes horse, and would frequently pay the party back for particularly nice bits of clothing or...
At least he realizes that wealth is important, unlike me in my early DM days. Between my general disinterest in placing loot and the 2e DMG's admonishments to make sure that those greedy little players earn their treasure, I had a 4th-6th level party with nothing but a couple of masterwork items between them.
Yeah, it got hairy before I realized that wealth is essentially part of every character's level progression.

LOL. Well, I love burlesque because for whatever reason it's a much stronger female dynamic than "classic" strip (but really, is there anything more 'classic' than burlesque?), and Red Bone showed that in spades when she "sat" in my lap to "flirt" with me.
If you watch the video, she's maybe 5'1 or 5'2" and pipe-cleaner-thin, but every inch of her body is rippling with muscle. So I'd put her weight somewhere around 115-120 pounds. She was that ripped. When she "sat", it wasn't some clumsy, "Plop down with all my weight in your lap because it's what you're paying for", but, "I'm going to put maybe 20-30 pounds of my weight on you, hold up the rest in an incredibly-awkward position with my insane musculature so as to not unduly discomfort you, and make the whole thing look casual and flirty to the audience."
The difference between a professional burlesque dancer and an amateur anything else is pretty staggering. But there were mostly amateurs on the stage last night, and we cheered like h*** for them, too, because they were obviously having so much fun.
Just a good, "clean", flirty, fun night.

Spent 3 days out of work last week, with all of my insides attempting to become outsides. Not fun.
My wife took her car in for maintenance. We then had a dealership loaner car - a 2017 Mazda 6 - for one night - so we immediately hit a coyote with it. Shattered/disintegrated half the front fascia of what used to be a very pretty car.
Found out my mother had a flare up of Achilles' tendonitis. Bad enough that she couldn't walk and was considering calling an ambulance. Three weeks ago. She lives out in the middle of nowhere still. Went over there with Aiymi to help clean the house. On the way over there, Aiymi had me pull into a grocery store and wait in the car. Check my email, and find an offer from my old car dealership to put me in a new 2018 with the same trim level as my current car for the same payments or less. Interesting. Click link. Seems legit. Shrug, as it would mean a new loan.
Twenty minutes later get an email from my old car salesman who sold me my current car. Discuss with Aiymi. "Same payment or less? We're always going to have a car payment, so go for it." Umm...ok...wasn't expecting that. Five hours later I'm putting down $500 to buy a new car. Not exactly what I had planned for that day.
