So...today's Frightful (un)Fridays! post is marauding dogs. Tremble in fear!

Thanks to Treppa and TFY (and probably someone else that I'm forgetting) for pointing this out to me. :)

My players are going to hate you. Hate you with a passion.

Especially once I up the Int score a bit and have all of the dogs saying, "Yo quiero Taco Bell."

Also, got the blog working! I'm currently posting conversions as I get them into a format at least somewhat reasonable.

e_e the sheer MAGNITUDE of this thread is mind-boggling.

I hear that this is a pale shadow of its predecessor, Deep 5 FaWtL. I hear that Deep 5 got so many posts on it that it formed a negative singularity and crashed the universe. So, alas, once the universe was rebooted we were left with naught but a pale shadow.

Curse the universal reboot. It's reality's blue screen of doom.

And, oops, I had forgotten to link to the blog...

Linky

I am seriously uncertain on the price of that book; I'm almost tempted to bump it higher.

Going by the "Wealth by Level" table, it seems reasonable. A character would need to be 15th level to earn that much treasure, and the character would certainly have other treasure.

My worry is the sheer power level of the item. But, it doesn't give an immediate tactical advantage, I'll admit.

Maybe your next critter could be a bunny swarm? (Not Safe for Anyanka/Jimmy Carter link)

I'd love nothing more than to watch a horde of bunnies devour Whedon.

I've been also doing research on a firefly's natural enemies so I can have a cool name for my own ship, but it turns out they have way too many to choose from. Oh, and phosphorescence apparently tastes awful as a defense mechanism.

Okay, rayguns are next on my conversion list. Along with the pulse guns.

Finally managed to get my group together for Kingmaker. Going to have a game on saturday.

I'm also apparently pulled into a 2nd edition game on sunday. Going to be playing an Inquisitor Paladin.

Dark Archive

Morning all. Hope ya'll are well and have a good day today. :)

Same to you. :)
I might put up my BBEG fight & the associated Know tests - just to solidify it in my mind.*

*Plus my players would probably never look here.

And the Kingmaker session got cancelled again...

In other news, Icy has been reading up on Semitic and Mesopotamian mythology, planning to work them into one of his story settings.

Those mythologies are fun. I've incorporated a lot of them into my homebrew setting. Ireshkigal is our death, souls, and cycle of rebirth goddess, Atargatis is our deity of merfolk, cities, civilization, and defense, and Tiamat is one of the apocalyptic Children of Perdition like the Tarrasque.

Weather for my boy's birthday tomorrow is looking to be nice - sunny and in the 70s. Woot! And for his party on Sunday it's looking better - just a slight chance of rain, cloudy, but in the mid 70s.

Scarab Sages

Went over to Walmart last night to get his birthday present - Imaginext Wizard's Tower!

This is actually semi-accurate. The first five FAWTL threads were used by Gary as a sort of forum stress-test. After a certain point, the one thread would become so huge the entire forum would start getting buggy. Posts would randomly disappear or never show up ("ghost posts" we called them), the forum would have weird timeouts, and other errors. Gary would usually lock the thread then and do some server maintenance, but the next FAWTL thread would usually be up within minutes of the old one going down (in one case, it was actually up before the other was locked) and Gary would give the servers some kicking and some upgrades and we'd start all over again.

It's kind of miraculous Deep Six is still going, we've had a few minor glitches from time to time but Gary's always been able to fix/upgrade over them before having to lock the thread. So we're still trucking along.

The one major inaccuracy is the size. Deep Six is over double the length of Five now =D

We're just not trying hard enough.

Scarab Sages

Once again, I find myself not wanting to be at work. But at least I've been getting a lot of stuff done.

Scarab Sages

I suspect my reason for not wanting to be here is twofold: I'm slowly recovering from a minor cold, and the lack of rest I get is part of the slow recovery. Also, I know I've got a lot to do to get the house ready for Charlie's little party on Sunday.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of get the house ready - I arrived home yesterday to discover my wife had done a bit of cleaning. I started prepping for the Apocalypse right then and there.

Agreed. And I think we need more of the old skooll in here. Planty man, the Moore's - they don't come around as much as they used to.

Yeah, a lot of people are gone. Callous Jack, Sharoth, Woody, Moff, heck even Urizen.

CJack and Sharoth are still around on the forums, but I think they've closed up OTD due to the troll infestation.

Bit of a stream of conciousness:

BBEG Fight:
This is situated next door to the Thassilonian/Gaia Pool and is the focus of the adventure. Basically the whole complex is an ancient Thassilonian ruin that has been uncovered in a mine - by an unscrupulous mine owner!

The room is dominated by a fluorescent image of a pair of entwinned figures. These are the OS & turn into the portal Ethereal beauties, they are translucent in your light. Moving with a slow fluid grace it's not immediately apparent that they are just simulcrum, not living creatures at all. Before them is a table, a console of sorts, numerous crystal shards stick out of it. Pale shades, the crystals exude their own light - powder blues, marigolds, violet hues. The crystals operate the portal.

Speaking the words "Initiate Transience" will make the portal appear. PC given the words last week.

Know (History) check:
8 - Thassilonians were great explorers, but vain. They enjoyed showing off their achievements (what they've built, created, done, visited)
10 - Explored other planes/planets and corrupted/altered/improved creatures.
13 - This portal is a link to a place of their power.
18 - Creature(s) stuck in here likely to be Sinspawn, Runelord touched.
24 - Heard of a Thassilonian device that the sea-elves found (?) which could close the portal. (Sea-elves secretive & reclusive).

Know (Arcana) check (with ability to read Thassilonian):
10 - You can figure out the basic controls (open/close), by
15 - It's a one-way Portal - operated from the outward direction. Currently it's jammed, with a creature trying to get in. One simple sweep of the lever will transport it here, however anyone in this place can go to the other side freely.
16 - But you cannot return, unless you open it to the other side.
18 - Fluent with the controls
20 - Once open it's continually open!
25 - There might be a way to jury-rig it, either using adamantite wires & living crystal. There might be ancient Thassilonian devices to block it.

Know (Planes) check:
10 - It's a Portal to....
12 - ....somewhere far away...
15 - ....another world! But on this plane.
18 - Triaxus!
20 - Inhospitable, but not inimitable to humans.
25 - Show Wiki article
28 - Specify where in the cycle.

Encounter:
Hydra, with templates : Runeslave (+1CR), Fire Restance/5 & Advanced (?)
Also everyone in the room takes 3HP damage a turn from the open portal? I might flavour this as the elements doing damage (?)

This should lead to 3 Options:

  • Go to Triaxus (close the portal from there, but they may get stuck. They leave duties behind to stop horrors. (This could lead to John Carter-esque adventures))
  • Go find the Sea-elves. (A fun maritime adventure with pirates & underwater horrors)
  • Short-term Jury Rig (finding the 2 materials)

You would never know they are coming until it's too late! They would have like a +30 stealth at least

Well in a letter I did tell them the foe was 'countless'.... and you cannot count to 1

Plus that works with hydra's splitting heads too.

Heya, all. And, interesting read on the history of these threads ^^

Now, let's see if we can't break the forums one more time...

    Hah, nice! =)

Mine started out True Neutral - like the Tarrasque, she was just an animalistic force of destruction, amoral - but now she's one of only two of the eight Children who aren't, thanks to being partially possessed by an evil wizard seeking immortality (it's a long story), and is now CE.

The other is Orochi, who moved from TN to NE or LE (not sure exactly which yet) after being corrupted by the alien Dark Song (who I've moved to LE for reasons that I'll eventually get to on the blog).

    Dark Song, eh?

Just pigeon walking through, don'timd me.

Yep =D One of the major forces of evil in our setting. Think equal parts Cthulhu Mythos and Borg/Cybermen.

They'll get an entry for themselves when I have free time to update the blog some more, after I do the races since a lot of people requested those.
