You should just go ahead and tell me. I'm not only good at keeping secrets, but I'll mock everyone else with my knowledge.

I want to run a Dungeon campaign one of these days, using strictly adventures from the mag.
It's from the Paizo era, I've wanted to run this one for a while. Let the heroes defend the crypt from the tomb raiders for a change!
I've run several campaigns out of the mag over the years, and it plays out pretty well. More of a "wandering adventurer" feel than the "gotta save the world", which is nice IMO.
I actually am only missing 12 Dungeon magazines, and those are the real early issues. :)
I have the complete run, and a lot of duplicates. If you like, send me a list and we can work something out.

stumbles into the thread
Hey, FAWTLies. How's things for all of you? For me...
The good:
1. Finished up our Star Wars campaign this weekend. Next up, Pathfinder! My paladin gets a unicorn for a mount! (But not a namby-pamby rainbow-spewing My Little Pony unicorn. This is 1500 pounds of righteous vengeance with a built-in sword. I <heart> my DM for bending the rules and letting me do this!)
2. Got my shiny new Kitchenaid stand mixer delivered today. I predict cookies in my future.
3. Good beer with friends for happy hour tonight. And nachos for dinner. Mmmmm... nachos.
The bad:
1. Three hours of sleep last night. Gah.
The ugly:
2. Office politics. 'nuff said.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Too many names bouncing around in my head. People should just legally change their names to Orcus, Tsoggothoa, etc.

I still haven't caught up on previous posts. :S
My boss at work decided to make my last two days eventful. I have to revise a document I worked on a little while ago to be more comprehensive. I didn't have any time to play today. I am getting paid for work, though, so I suppose I should be professional, or something. *sigh*
We might wait an additional day to move, since it promises to be raining all day Wednesday. We left an extra day open just in case.

I actually like the Sci-Fi (pre Sy-Fy) mini-series a lot more over David Lynch's theatrical release.

You shouldn't have to. Rinse it in the shower and let it dry completely. Or simply let it dry completely. But it might get sticky from the beer.

Dune, the book? (bleh)Dune, the movie? (I loved it. People who read and liked Dune hated it)
Dune, the Sci-Fi miniseries? (Never saw it)
Seriously. Admittedly, I was 16 when I saw it. :)
The book bored me to tears, so I never got past the first 50 pages, but I know people who read the books reviled the movie.
...and don't forget the song based off of Dune by the best British metal band EVAH!

Urizen |

I read the book and have loved all the movies to date, but never understood how anyone who hadn't already read the book could possibly follow what was happening in the first movie. It seemed very much an insider's movie, not for the general public.
The miniseries stands alone well. It's one of the few things we have on DVD.
I own the mini-series too. Did you get the follow-up, Children of Dune on DVD? It was good, too.

Urizen |

I followed Dune fine, but I think I was more in the mindset of watching a David Lynch movie, rather than an adaptation of the book (since I hadn't read it at all before the movie). If you've watched any other David Lynch movies or the first season of Twin Peaks, you know you have to pay close attention to all the movie's cues.
Although as a plus to Lynch's version, it did have Sir Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck.

Follow it up with the third one where Anakin gets even more whiny than previously thought possible (at least we know that Luke gets it honestly). And a fall to the dark side that still doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
The prequel trilogy for the most part were beautiful films that had little to no substance. Eye candy? Sure. As good as the original trilogy? Not even close.
I think Clerks 2 spoofed perfectly how wooden of an actor Hayden Christensen was as Anakin. I'm sure for some folks, it may have been difficult trying to act and guess what's supposed to be going on given that most of the scenes were 'green screened' for latter CGI dress-up. I've always wondered how much better it would have been if Lucas had decided instead to go with a more established actor such as Leonardo DiCaprio.
I'm a huge Natalie Portman fan, but I wonder if she looks back to those films and think to herself ... what the hell was I thinking? If I wasn't acting against a doormat as a love interest, I'd be able to deliver more interest in my role.

Urizen |

I read the book. I read it around the same time I read the first Wheel of Time book. It was interesting to compare the differences. My issue was that Dune characters weren't very well described. I had a really hard time figuring out who was who. Compared to Wheel of Time where every blade of grass seemed to be described in painstaking detail.
Count me as one of those folks who've never read a Robert Jordan novel. All I know of Wheel of Time is from the d20 campaign setting.

I think being around Jar Jar too much caused her to sign on to "Where the Heart Is".

I know our situations our different, but I had a similar feeling last year. It was difficult, but I stepped outside my comfort zone, and I'm extremely glad I did. I really hope your experience is the same.
Heck, going back to school for the first time in 20 years put me outside my comfort zone. In my English class, there's a gal who's doing it for high school credit. I'm old enough to be her dad. Oof.
