This has been a long s+#+ty week. The bright spot is a bit of gaming tonight to test the camera set up for my old regular group to get back to more table based online gaming (instead of r20 or FG).
May get a 6 pack for me and request a lap dance from the wife or surrogate of her choice.
answers phone
Yes....yes, I still do lapdances, but my physique has taken a hit over the years...you prefer it that way? Okay, ma'am, who am I doing this lap dance for exactly? Nylar-who? You know what, it doesn't matter. I'll bring the 6 pack, yes.

By the way, if anyone knows someone aged 18-30 who plays, or used to play 'Runequest', in either of its current incarnations, drop me a message, 'cause I gotta job for them.
LOL. I don't think Impus Major qualifies.
He's in the right age group, but he was 9 when he last played, and he didn't pay a heck of a lot of attention...

I think that would be perfect.

You are the first person I met from these message boards. I don't want to lose you to the madness going on.

Sounds more fun than what I'm reading today.
I agreed to be a beta reader for my college roommate's third novel. The first one was interesting and kinda cool, the second one I loved, but this third book in the trilogy... I'm not loving it. It's just not as good... disjointed and forced in places.
And I have to give her constructive beta reader comments on it. Which I promised by the end of the weekend after she messaged me this week to say, "So, you've had access to the digital files for some time now, I really need feedback asap before the school year starts, kthxbye". Because she's a college professor and wants to get the draft edited before she gets stuck in prof stuff until Christmas.
I am hating life today.

It turns out that the reason I hated it was that, when I did my first, fast read-through, I read it in the wrong order. Her online directory listed the chapters in the order 1-10-11-12-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9.
So I read chapter 10 as if it were 2, 11 as 3, 12 as 4, and 2 as 5, and it confused the everliving f@#$ out of me and, when I got to chapter 9, the ending seemed completely wrong and "That's it?!?"
Which I started to do again this morning before I caught myself. Then I went back and read it correctly, and it's SOOOOO much better. And I'm liking it. It's still not as good as her 2nd book, which was really lyrical and lovely, but I'm enjoying it.

I think honest impressions with specific examples are best for both of you as a beta reader.
I've decided to go with the painfully honest, "Yeah, so, I was a total dumbass..." and explain everything, and then share my thoughts on the reread.
She lived with me as an insufferable undergrad and we're still friends. She will understand and laugh at me.

As I've mentioned, there are vast swaths of buildings, even in the U.S., that were built in temperate climes and thus lack such amenities. Europe is even "worse" -- even the hotels don't tend to have A/C. Ubiquitous air conditioning is a uniquely American thing.

I have never really experienced air conditioning, except in supermarkets or shopping centres, probably because the weather in the north of England is too consistently s+&!ty to make it necessary.

Of course, the way today has gone, I will get bitten by a mosquito and contract malaria and 47 other blood-borne diseases, most of which aren't known to be present in the US.
And then I'll be attacked by a pack of wild turkeys.
And then, as I'm crawling, bloody and beaten, back to civilization, a raccoon will come by and steal my wallet.
Oh man, you were sooo close!!
Takes wallet.

Its been getting worse with global warming, but it used to be that we only had one or two truely hot weeks a year. And hot was consistently 5 to 10 degrees celcius cooler then the temps we have now.
Aircon really was not neccecairy untill now.

Finished the book.
Ugly-cried my way through the last two chapters.
Then I sent the google doc with my notes on each chapter to my friend.
Not sure if she'll find it useful, but I found a couple of grammatical and continuity errors. Mostly, though, I tried to put down on paper what I was thinking/feeling as I read each chapter, what got me, what left me cold, etc.
Now I have to be functional and put dinner on the table.
(I've been taking breaks between chapters to do kitchen stuff.)
I made Chicken Ziegler, after my favorite character on The West Wing. ("Stick a lemon up it and throw on some rosemary and a little salt.")
Aaaand since I fulfilled my Beta Reader duties, I can go ahead and prep for tomorrow's gaming session guilt-free. We're starting the final book of Ruins of Azlant, but WW wants the party to detour back to Talasantri to sell some loot and go shopping first.
Selling/shopping episodes are the part of gaming I've always hated the most. I do not f***ing want to GM it.
Hugs, Tequila. I hate it that you are having to deal with this s~#@ again, especially right now.

I have only done the Herbert Dance about four times in my life, which is not enough, and for that, I blame Covid-19 and Idiot Prime Minister Johnson.

Tala's mother is the most manipulative c**# I've ever met. Yes, the c word was necessary. B#%$+ does not convey the context enough.
My brother is a commission only salesman, and one of the best in his company, so trust me, I know what manipulation looks like.
This woman is on a fast track to never seeing her granddaughter again the second we can afford a place.
I realize that's extreme, but so it pales in comparison to the s**% she pulled yesterday. I see why Tala's dad left her. Frankly, her stepdad is practically a saint, and she busts his balls like he were some kind of a%#@~!*.
We traveled across the country and abandoned most of what we owned to do it on her promise of a place to stay. Three days later it was threatened to be revoked - not over a fight, not over anything we actually did - but because an opinion was asked, our answer was given, and she didn't like the opinion.
If I didn't have my daughter I would have LITERALLY spat in her face and walked out to sleep on the beach. Tala reacted even worse than myself.
This is NOT the worst thing she's done so far. Just one example.

Every time I type Florida in an application it hurts my soul.
I'm surrounded by decorative towels you can't use, plates nobody eats off in cabinets, and other practical products you can't touch. This place is a half step from plastic on furniture.
I haven't seen my dog in a week and don't know when I will again. My brother will only watch him for a month. He said the dog cried all night he first night.
I drank more in the last three days than...my life? Yeah my life.
Seriously. Kill me.

I have been drunk maybe 8 times in my life now.
Fully half of them are the last three days. Because of this stupid situation. I hate drinking, but I have to do something to dull my pain, and I have no weed. Or friends within 200 miles. (About four counties from my only true friend)
I'm really REALLY bad socially. Everyone says I talk down to them and I have spent 20 years trying to not sound like that. It's a physical concerted effort and it incorporates all my acting experience and my psychology knowledge just to pretend to be normal for a few hours. And I can but it's like tensing a muscle, figuratively speaking : I can't hold it forever.
And being yelled at when I'm actually really trying... F&~&, what do I do? Gotta numb the pain for that somehow.
