Woohoo! I have a bike! Which, contrary to assumptions, did not fit in the back of the Soul. And I had neither rope nor bungees in the car. So I stopped at a gas station to buy some.
Thank heavens for good ole southern sexism, the kind old man who owned the station came outside and insisted on tying up my hatchback for me. I got "God bless you, Ma'am"ed no less than three times.

I loved cycling when I was a kid, when I had an amazing bike and lived near an amazing trail on and old railroad grade that went around lakes, through forest, etc. As an adult, I've only had garage sale bikes, usually heavy and needing work, i.e. utility bikes, and I've only lived in cities. Today is our last day that *ought* to be a work/school day but isn't, so we're off to Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas. While every natural history museum and major university in the state has at least one of these footprints (chiseled and lifted out verrrrry carefully) in their collections, there is nothing like seeing the tracks together along the riverbed. Plus you get to swim and splash around in a clear, lazy, shallow river in the hot Texas summer, which is awesome. I haven't been there since college, and WW hasn't been since he was a kid, and we've never taken Hermione and Val (each time we've tried, either the river has been in flood, or there have been bad storms, or something like that).

While every natural history museum and major university in the state has at least one of these footprints (chiseled and lifted out verrrrry carefully) in their collections, there is nothing like seeing the tracks together along the riverbed. Plus you get to swim and splash around in a clear, lazy, shallow river in the hot Texas summer, which is awesome. I haven't been there since college, and WW hasn't been since he was a kid, and we've never taken Hermione and Val (each time we've tried, either the river has been in flood, or there have been bad storms, or something like that).
