Contrary to Supreme Court rulings, corporations aren't people and such generalizations on behavior don't apply to them.
They're ALL horrible...
Fair, but the mindset of a corporate executive or engineer (who are still people) that says "let's ignore this rule" is actually more egregious than the behavior to which you object in the generic 'merikun.
I don't disagree with your original point about the people...I am just being contrary about your generalizations of the supposedly contrasting European mindset.

Woohoo! I have a bike! Which, contrary to assumptions, did not fit in the back of the Soul. And I had neither rope nor bungees in the car. So I stopped at a gas station to buy some.
Thank heavens for good ole southern sexism, the kind old man who owned the station came outside and insisted on tying up my hatchback for me. I got "God bless you, Ma'am"ed no less than three times.
You know what? I'll take it. Kindness makes the world go around.
If I was there I would have ridden it back to your place for you.
Also how can a bike not fit into your soul?! Do you not love cycling as much as I do?!?

WW's car is a Kia Soul.
I loved cycling when I was a kid, when I had an amazing bike and lived near an amazing trail on and old railroad grade that went around lakes, through forest, etc. As an adult, I've only had garage sale bikes, usually heavy and needing work, i.e. utility bikes, and I've only lived in cities. I'm not a city girl and I don't feel as safe riding in them.

There have been several cats in the house. (who just walk in when the doors are open).
The rats have shown a complete lack of interest in the cats. Which in turn, makes the cats loose interest real quick as well.

Another Strange Aeons session, another, "Let's follow that obvious clue!" leading to the GM having to say, "Nope. I know they put that obvious passage there, and that it's very clear that you're supposed to go that way. But you're not. And I'd have to write the whole thing up. And after a month or two you'd learn that I'd been leading you on for no reason whatsoever other than that the AP gave you yet another red herring with no follow-up in the book, expecting the GM to take care of it all, and I just don't feel like doing that right now..."

Today is our last day that *ought* to be a work/school day but isn't, so we're off to Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas. While every natural history museum and major university in the state has at least one of these footprints (chiseled and lifted out verrrrry carefully) in their collections, there is nothing like seeing the tracks together along the riverbed. Plus you get to swim and splash around in a clear, lazy, shallow river in the hot Texas summer, which is awesome. I haven't been there since college, and WW hasn't been since he was a kid, and we've never taken Hermione and Val (each time we've tried, either the river has been in flood, or there have been bad storms, or something like that).
Of course, Texas being Texas,
