It....it's like....I don't know you anymore!!!
Just kidding. While I agree that Carpenter's film was vastly superior to the original black and white, that older movie does hold a bit of sentimental love from me. Back in the day, AMC used to do Friday night classic horror movies, and I remember that being one my dad and I loved watching.
I can understand that.
By way of contrast, I'll throw out The Day the Earth Stood Still. That there was a terrible remake/re-imagining. Whoa!
I made my Will save against watching that one.

I went with a friend with the intention of mocking the movie. We couldn't even do that.

+1
Not even Jennifer Connolly (who I am deeply smitten with) could redeem that flick.
The only problem I have with JC's The Thing is deciding whether it's better or worse than Big Trouble in Little China.

Jennifer Connolly made the first Hulk movie tolerable.
I have a soft spot for Escape from New York, so that's my favorite JC movie, followed by They Live, which was so ridiculous it made it awesome.

It was written at or around the same time as Big Trouble, so I think it might have had the same feel as the first. You are right however, Escape from LA should have been called escape from the theater.

I don't remember it being THAT bad.

I'm still a little amused that none of you objected to a group of jailers locking you in a stairwell. I was sure somebody would object.

Yeah, I’m not quite sure why we didn’t ... there’s something very creepy about this whole setup. I’m glad Res has a crowbar.

More Big Trouble in Little China love.....
When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Big trouble was originally going to be set in the wild west. I think Clint Eastwood was going to be the lead for the movie but he turned it down and Carpenter wanted Russell anyway.
Moth I have the DVD if you want to borrow it.
It's one of my favorite movies...... Along with Stripes, Blazing Saddles and Cannonball Run.
