To this day, my favorite "HR Stupidity" moment ever was back when we were getting over 200 applicants for every open position, and HR responded to this by setting technically-impossible requirements for the candidates:

HR Department: All candidates must have at least 20 years' Java programming experience.
Us: But Java's only been around for 12 years. That's an impossible requirement!
HR Department: That means you'll get only the best!
Us: No; that means we'll get only people who are willing to lie on their resumes!

HR didn't get it and left the requirement in. And guess what? Our candidates were terrible...

Java has been around for ONLY 12 years? It feels like longer.

The bad news: My manager told me that HR and his boss are asking questions about my frequent time off this year.

*sigh*

I hope that you feel better soon and that your work related issues clear up.

Naked Java programming? Well, I am at home.

It turns out that Java has been around for 23 years.

That's kind of fitting statement in such circumstances...

I was going to say that that incident happened many years ago, shortly after we were acquired.

11 years sounds just about right...

Well, that's some weird formatting they got going on.

The Exchange

Just had peri peri chicken at nandos. I got a little enthusiastic on dribbling the peri peri sauce over my char grilled vegetables, I bet I'll get a stomachache for having too much chili tomorrow.

So what caused the lung infections, Tequila?

I think it's chronic dehydration. I drink a ton of water, but due to a salt deficiency I think it's just draining right thru me.

I hope it's dehydration, I really hope so, because I can do something about that.

You need electrolytes as well, since you're in a dry environment. Add a restaurant-style salt packet per 12 ounces of water, or a large pinch if you haven't got any.

Hi, Mort! No PFS at Game Day. Everyone's at Sipcon, wherever that is. I'll stay here in case I see something that interests me. I also have time for the PbP today.

I love The Great British Baking Show.

Biscuit week, or as translated into English, dry overcooked cookie overfilled with with bland or bitter fillings week.

While trying someone's "biscuit" (or as they're commonly referred to in America as "footballs") the judge comments "the chocolate is rather bitter and they're a bit dry" to which the contestant replied "I know, they're great aren't they!".

You know it's been a great summer when 62 degrees is cold enough for you to have to wear a long sleeve shirt.

Redundant headline from the local news website.

"Local mosquito population abnormally large this year, experts say"

No f!%&ing shit! I wonder if the five weeks of rain or 80-90 degree temperatures with 90% humidity had anything to do with that.

Or maybe, it was ALL OF THE F$~@ING ABOVE!!!

Sorry, LM. I don't know what those are. I only know what the Baklava is. There's one that's made from shredded wheat and honey, with nuts in the center. There's one that's made from Phyllo, with the corners folded up into a basket and filled with nuts. I'm unsure about the rest.

We stopped at Whole Foods on the way home from the chiropractor yesterday and bought a selection of gluten free desserts. I got some raspberry bars that taste just like ones my grandma used to make. This means that they are not objectively good, but they are nostalgic and therefore make me happy. ;P
My husband is currently at a tailgate party, which ostensibly means he's feeling better. He had a high fever yesterday and collapsed on the kitchen floor at one point. Which is not good. And even more not good when I was also trying to deal with the kiddo not feeling well. Yikes. The kiddo had some seizures after his chiropractic adjustment so that was obviously less than ideal. And he hit his head when he fell at one point. But thankfully no concussion and he's doing at least some better today. Better enough to do homework anyways.
Meanwhile, my reproductive system is being a total a*$~&$% and all I want to do is sleep with occasional waking up for chocolate and/or crisps. But I need to go to the store to get gatorade for the kiddo. Bleh. These are the days being an adult suuuuucks.....

Oh, and TS, I know a lot of folks with dysautonomia who need sodium supplements, and thermotabs are a pretty popular brand. They should have them at most drug stores. They're supposed to have a good ratio of sodium and potassium. Anyhow, that might help with the dehydration issues.

Thanks for the info on the tablets, Lynora. I wouldn't have known about them. But then, I usually don't hang out in Pharmacies.

It was the General's birthday yesterday.

I realized this Thursday morning.

The kids got her a nice flip over waffle maker and then I stopped at three places, picked up the kids from school, picked up my paycheck and then was finally able to procure a suitably fancy, decadent and chocolatey cake for the General, which, as a retired baker, I've never done before (I usually make her a fancy and suitably decadent pie).

So, yay! Nailed it with barely more than 24 hours.

Which is pretty typical for me.

Thanks for the tips!

I actually ended up getting myself a bottle of salt tabs, based on the truly massive amount of sodium my dietician recommended. (5k+ mg of sodium)

Because my brain is so absorbed in this and I want to overshare, this is what I think is going on:

1. Sodium is the body's carrier of water. So no matter how much water ya got in your body, if there's a sodium deficiency, ya get dehydrated. Also it's not actually lack of water that triggers thirst, it's an overbalance of sodium compared to water in the body.

2. I've been sweating a lot over the past year, still don't know why. I sweat outside in the Phoenix heat of course, I also sweat at night at room temp. So much so that last night I had to change bedclothes five times. I've had multiple blood tests to check my thyroid, and every test comes back A-okay. Anyhow, everyone loses water and sodium when they sweat, but due to my condition (cystic fibrosis), I lose a lot of sodium.

3. So even tho I drink water like a pirate drinks rum, I don't have enough sodium to actually use it, so I'm chronically dehydrated even tho I feel totally hydrated.

4. This leads to horrible muscle cramping, frequent urination, headaches, and super thick immobile bodily fluids. Which means that super thick immobile mucous builds up in my lungs and breeds infection, hence my four hospitalizations over the past year.

At least I really hope this is what's going on, because like I said I can do something about it.

Sounds concise. I hope this works for you. I hate to see my friends ill.

Really sounds like a real drag TS.

Wish I could give some sort of useful advice, but I'm not really very well-versed in problems and medical conditions like yours…
though I had heard about the bit about people suffering from cystic fibrosis having to deal with a lot of lung-infections due to the bacteria-rich thick mucus layer in their lungs before.

Again, I wish I could help you somehow…
But I'm (and I would dare say we here) rooting for you man! Get better!

Furthermore, I'm beginning to feel unwell, nauseated and sick to the stomach.
