I swear, for all the talk of dogs being intelligent, their lack of ability to learn things sometimes just astonishes me.
Every day, as soon as the sun comes out (somewhere between 11 and 11:30 am), I open the bedroom windows to air it out. Every day, the neighbor's dog goes nuts as if I'm trying to assault his family. Every day, my neighbor yells at him and smacks him on the head for barking at me.
And the next day, the cycle repeats...
EDIT: And yes, Freehold, today was a typical July or early August day around here: Just enough fog to be called overcast until 11:20 am, then the sun came out. So right now it's 11:36 am, sunny, with a pleasant light breeze coming in from the bay, and 65° F.

I've been doing a simple copy-paste job for the past two hours. Or what should have been simple, and done well within the first hour. But will take me another two hours and more frustration.
I HATE WORD SO MUCH.
I would literally rather use Notepad as my work word processor, Word makes me so angry. Among other frustrations, I tried to delete a pic from the original doc (bc Word won't let me grab the shape overlaid atop it), but couldn't bc Word thinks I want to editorialize the adjacent text.
HOW CAN WORD BE SO STUPID YET SO SMART IN ALL THE WRONG WAYS?!
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Don't even get me started about the "free" version of Word now having an embedded advertisement... that often plays a video... advertising Word while I am literally using it.

My favorite was yesterday when I was listing a set of lessons:
Lesson 1 (Bnar the Foo): DONELesson 2 (Foo the Bnar): DONE
And I just wanted to copy the colon and the DONE. It was impossible. Word wanted that right parenthesis.
So I wanted
: DONE
But it would only automagically grab
): DONE
Why why why why WHY!?!?!?!!?

Got a complaint number. The police aren't going to do anything.

I'll hold out a bit of hope for you spotting the culprit trying to hand the bike off to someone through usual channels.
But yea it sucks that the police these days are basically too busy investigating "more important cases" (or handing out tickets…) to investigate stuff like this (or at least they are over here…then again the Danish police force is surprisingly small...).

It compares favorably to cats who forget what’s on the other side of the door immediately...
XD(No but it really speaks to “not adequate training” - dogs and cats can be trained for all sorts of things, but it’s potentially kind of complicated and difficult, and most simply don’t know how, and don’t know how to go about finding out, or even that they should. Doesn’t make either animals or people bad or stupid, but it can be frustrating for neighbors.)

Taking apart the bunk beds my uncle built for Hermione and Val. I got 36 of 42 screws removed, and the last six are stripped, and I am ready to scream.
C'mon by. I have vice grips that say they aren't.
EDIT: Except from now 'til 3:00 pm, since I'm dropping off the unused tables with the choir director. Gotta love my kids. "OK, kids. Here's the cash drawer, the cash, the stuffies, and the sale tables. All you need to do to make $50-$100 is put up a couple of signs and sit outside."
"That's too hard, Dad!"

Tiny T-Rex was playing Star Wars Battlefront and he says "I'm going to be Kylo Ren!" the General says "Is he a fashion designer, he sounds like a fashion designer" so Tiny T-Rex thinks about it "well, he might be a fashion designer, but he's also a Jedi on the dark side".
I was playing Trivial Pursuit with my mom when I was in junior high. She asked me, "Who are A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti?" I answered, "I dunno, plumbers?" She will still occasionally bring this up thirty years later.

I watched a couple of episodes of the dog whisperer. Dogs with unruly behaviour is due to them being not well trained. There was a dog that went around biting the owners young kids, another jumping up on the table and knocking everything over, a dog that couldn't be brought for walks because he'd attack any strange man he saw on sight etc.
Usually it's due to the owners not being firm enough to say a resounding No! when they do something wrong, and correct their behaviour immediately, or the dog feeling insecure due to past trauma, which needs other dogs to train out off so they accept other humans as part of their pack.
Now why does a cat learn so much about canines? Id put it down to curiosity.

I've noticed that approaching an animal in a not calm fashion just involves the animal spooking out and you getting no pictures. Also Big Norse Wolf was saying agitated animals behave in unpredictable fashions, like the kid screaming when he was holding a snake, causing the snake to bite him.
Had I been on the scene I probably wouldn't scream like the kid but rather watch the whole thing calmly. Might have wanted to pet the snake, but I know I don't have wild empathy.

How to recognize a dog person: You say something bad about dogs, and their immediate response is, "Cats are worse", even if you never mentioned cats...
(TL's response just amused me because just this morning NobodysWife was pointing out the interesting dynamic that cat people tend to be, "Well, dogs are fine, but I prefer cats," while dog people tend to be, "Cats suck! And here's a hundred reasons why!"
They seem awfully... defensive...)

... except when cat-people ignore the part where you rather immediately clarify that cat's are actually quite fine, if properly trained, exactly like dogs, in order to make a dig at dog-people...
;D
The thing is, cat's are fine. I like them. I can't be around them, because I stop breathing well, but I like them just fine.
(They also infect people with a virus to force people to like them more, so there's that.)
((And I'm not getting any pets, regardless of kind, hypoallergenic or not, at all. Too much money, too much work, and too much training - I already have two kids, I don't need that kind of extra hassle!))
One of the cooler things I've seen done with cats is Diega, the skateboarding cat. Some dudes that trained a bunch of dogs also trained a cat to skateboard, more or less to prove they could. What's funny is watching their video of "Happy" (the song by Will Pharrel? Or whoever - the guy with the hat. I always get those names mixed up) for years with my kids before, rather recently, seeing the same cat come up on a trivia thing in a restaurant. For a couple guys advertising pet training (of all sorts) in Australia, they've come a long way!

And in rural areas* nobody steals a bicycle unless it's a kid stealing it from another kid. In those cases it's usually just a matter of the parent calling the other parent and saying, "Hey, did Brad leave his bike over at your place, by chance? He knows he left it a friend's, but just can't remember for sure which one." Then you eventually find the bike, reclaim it, and the kid who stole the bike doesn't get to hang out at your place for 6 months or so.
*Again, actual rural areas. Cities of 100,000 population that happen to be surrounded by corn fields do not qualify for this description.
Or it's someone who just pulls off the front tire and dumps the rest of the bike a couple of blocks away.
(They want the inner tube from the tire because they use it to cook meth.)

If I don’t remember what I read wrongly, there are cat people, dog people and people who don’t mind dogs or cats. The people who don’t mind dogs or cats can appear to be dog people(like own a dog and all that), but definitely wouldn’t say cats are worse.
I think despite being a cat, I act more like a dog. At least I have the energy and sheer doggedness in getting things done like one. What? Geez.

The General's parents have been trying to get the kids over for another overnight visit and wanted to have them out Friday into Saturday and so the General trying to sell them on it says that "it's just boring adults hanging out and going places, it's probably not going to be that interesting" so Crookshanks says indignantly "Of course it's going to be interesting, they're from FaWtL!"

Zelda, Aiymi, and I. Zelda's eldest has spent the week visiting with friends in the rural area NW of Eau Claire WI. She was told to get a bus ticket to come back home, so she got one. To Madison. Because she's 17.
So we're going to make a day of it and head up there to get some lunch at Grumpy Troll then meet up with Cap and company. The kid's bus comes in at 6pm, so we'll pick her up then and be home by about 9-10pm.
