Hmm... the camping directly around the Bay Area isn't all that great, but it might be luxurious by Wisconsin standards just by a basic lack of heat and mosquitoes (we have a few, but they hardly count). But OMG, if you guys are willing to take a road trip to Yosemite or the Sequoias...

Lisamarlene, I know you go camping around here with your implets. Where do you do it? Up north along the Russian River?

EDIT: And when I camp, I camp nekkid, like the bares around me.

My plan is to work as much as I can until then, no caps on OT, just my own efficiency to hold me back.

Also today was really hot, which put a damper on the ditch digging.

The patio looks nice though!

Was thinking of doing a dumpling run, aka run to the train station, take the train, run to the store, and get the dumplings. The dumplings are made out of glutinous rice, fillings of stewed pork, sh*take mushroom and chestnut. If you pay $0.50 extra, you can get salted egg included in the filing.

Then I’d walk back to train station with 21 dumplings(can’t run…encumbered…), and go for body combat class at gym.

But my colleague is joining me going to the train station and I doubt she really wants to…uh run.

And how did the dumpling run start? We were having dinner together then one of my colleagues went to buy dumplings from a random store.

Me: Why are you buying that crap?! I'll show you what's the good stuff.

And that's how the dumpling run started. I'm a dumpling snob too. Once you taste the good stuff, you never go back.

I seriously doubt he smurfs Smurfs for that. I believe he likes to smurf the Smurfs in a big smurf pie. Though I'm not entirely sure where he smurfed the last smurf pie from, since he seems to be bad at smurfing us Smurfs.

As far as the dating talk goes I always just play it by ear.

That is indeed smooth.

The most impressive trick a date ever tried to pull with me was to pretend he baked fresh bread every day. He was a physicist so I was dubious, but his mama was from Italy, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. We were snuggling on the couch chatting and eating warm bread (and it was pretty good, I'll admit), when there was this weird beeping sound from the closet. He started trying to talk over it and got all evasive. So I went to investigate. He had hidden the bread machine in the hall closet so he could pretend he made bread traditionally, and he was embarrassed and ashamed, which was funny and cute, but for him it ruined the moment.

Lol that's kind of funny. NOO! she knows my horrible horrible secret. I don't make my own bread! I use a bread maker.*cry*
I don't even go as far as a bread maker...

The Exchange

I thought most breads required a bread maker? Anyway I might be making pizza this weekend. Gotta finish all that bread flour. Also managed the dumpling run, even had time to eat a dumpling, and in time for body combat at the gym, but my handbag strap broke as I was running to the store. WTF.

And guess that lifting weights helps when you've got 23 dumplings to lug and trying to do a slow little jog while grabbing your handbag literally in your hands...

Bread makers (at least the ones I've used years ago) make okay bread. But when I make bread I make it without one. Which is easier now that I have a stand mixer to do the kneading rather than doing it by hand.

I've only camped naked on the Yuba river, not the Russian river, but that was twenty years ago.

We've done national parks, state parks, local regional parks, and privately-owned. The only campgrounds I'd personally recommend are the CA state park campgrounds, which are by and large really well maintained (seriously... not to put too fine a point on it, I have never been in such nicely maintained and non-stinky vault/pit toilets before). Everyone I know who has done it with kids swears by Big Basin in San Jose. I've hiked it for the little waterfalls but haven't camped there. www.reservecalifornia.com is the website, and yes the site is a bit temperamental (don't do it on a Chromebook or phone if you can help it). I've always wanted to camp Angel Island but never manage to reserve early enough to actually get a booking.

I am not good at breads and they are a lot of work and I never noticed a big difference from homemade and store bought.

They got the computers finally working again at about 2pm today. That's almost 21 hours that they were down. Turns out it wasn't the internet like tech support said it was. Instead while they were messing with the wires yesterday they tugged out the ethernet cable that connects the server to the network. Turns out the little tab that is supposed to lock it in place was broken off. Replaced the cable, and bingo! everything works again. So, at least I don't have to deal with that tonight.

Instead, just before I came in, the ceiling in the lobby started pouring water. The assistant manager happened to be here, and she and 2nd shift were trying to figure out what to do. Eventually, without them doing anything really, it stopped and the AM said "Have 1st shift call a plumber in the morning, call me if it starts again, and pray it doesn't happen during breakfast." And then she left. Great plan.

Wow. I thought I had it rough when our fire alarm would randomly sound for no reason.

Vidmaster7 wrote:

I do, but mainly because I only bake crusty breads (sourdough, italian, french) and only buy regular sandwich bread. Sometimes I do cinnamon bread, but not often. I also like to make rolls. I have a recipe I like that uses instant mashed potatoes to replace some of the flour. It makes the rolls a little softer and gives a very slight potato flavor to them. I don't make rolls very often, though, because a recipe generally makes 2 or 3 dozen, and I am only one man.

I had that happen at the last hotel I worked at. Turned out one of the smoke detectors had shorted out and was randomly triggering the alarm. Luckily for me, it started about 20 minutes before I left so I didn't have to deal with it for long.

Mine was dead at night. It amazes me how many people hear a fire alarm and there first reaction is to call the front desk for 10 minutes instead of Oh I don't know evacuate the building. It was within my first month here too mind you.

I had that happen once too. Some jackass pulled the alarm at like 2am. Half the people started calling the desk, the rest came to the desk. No one was happy, everyone blamed me, and I was likely the least happy of all. Except perhaps the firemen. They hate it when people do that s$$&. One of them was saying how they should have the police dust the alarm pull for prints and compare them to every guest in the hotel so they could "beat the ever-loving crap out of him".

Our fire department never shows up nor did they call or anything. we actually had someone smoking in a room and let me tell you when I say smoking let me say that cigarette smoke nor marijuana smoke (because I've had people do it) do not make our fire alarms go off.

Just got home in the last 15-20 minutes or so. Still no diagnosis, and they've ruled out a lot of the obvious stuff. It's not a stroke. It's not a blood clot. Not pneumonia. Not mono. Not influenza. Kidneys are fine. CT scan of her brain came back clean. CT scan with contrast dye of the rest of her body came back clean too. Chest x-ray showed nothing obvious. Blood work looked fine, all numbers in the normal ranges.

Every damn test keeps coming back negative.

Yeah, that's good news, except we still don't know what the fk is causing this. Everything that gets ruled out increases the probability of more and more obscure, harder to treat ailments. We aren't there yet (nowhere close), but it's reminded me of an old medical joke: "I've got good news and bad news. The good news is we've named a new disease after you."

Her mental state was greatly improved when I left the hospital, but it was no different than she was Tuesday night, and physically she's no better except that they gave her a different pain killer which is doing better for her. She doesn't remember Tuesday at all. She doesn't remember anything from today until about 7:30pm. She's still slipping in and out of consciousness.

That is crazy. Keep us updated. First thing it made me think of was head trauma. I had a friend with a delayed reaction to a light bump like that once. but CT scan of her brain obviously nixed that.

It sounds like something out of house. Which if it was her improving from being at the hospital they would say it might be environmental or you know the hospital gave her some antibiotics then it would be bacterial or something. if she gets worse at home and better elsewhere then then it would be fungal I think. or lupus it seems like it was always lupus (those aren't the symptoms of lupus btw just how house worked.)

Anyways enough distraction keep us updated. watch her close!

She's still in hospital right? I hope that the health care in US is better then letting someone who is slipping in and out of consciousness leave the hospital just because they could not diagnose what is wrong.

You can't get a plumber in the middle of the night, can you? At most you can only put a bucket/or several/or maybe a bathtub under the leak right?

They're hoping front desk will tell them it's a false alarm so they can all get to bed. Our school some joker broke the fire alarm panel while moving chairs. The chair leg hit the press glass to trigger alarm part of the alarm.
