There's a young faculty member at our campus who has the sweetest, sunniest personality. She's like a cocker spaniel puppy in human form.
She is so unrelentingly positive, we could be in the midst of a 7.0 earthquake, the building could be on fire and the parent of one of the kids could have just had a heart attack in the lobby, ALL AT ONCE, and if someone were to ask her in that moment how she was doing, she would simply cock her head to one side, pause, say "It's going to be okaaaaaay..." and then methodically set out to make that statement true. Because it's what she does.

I don't get heroics. Who's going to be paying for your hospital bills if you get hurt?
Its not really something I was concerned about at the time. I think when I do something dumb like that it comes from a combination of anger and empathy I don't want someone to have to go through garbage like that and If I can help its worth the risk. course I also have a small bit of a martyr streak in me too. To be really honest to I'm good at reading people and I think about it and I can kind of say that I was reasonably sure the other person was going to back down. well at least for my second example the first one Was just kind of a crazy moment.

It is logical, sure, but asking the question itself goes against everything the heroic ideal stand for, does it not?

Well I can say most of if not all the dumb things I've done were emotional decision not logic ones so take that as you will.

Not really against my heroic ideal. It’s a valid question. The thing is, in the moment, it uuuuuuusually doesn’t matter. I can’t say if I would be a hero or not, but I can say that it’s very important that people are.
That said, people who are too aggressively action prone can make problems by making bad calls. Being a hero is important. Being a stupid a hero is likely to cause more problems for others. It’s one reason that heroics are often discouraged by law enforcement.
But something like what Mr. Cumberbatch did was important because it prevented a dude from sustaining serious injuries. He STOPPED the hospital bills at all by being willing to risk himself.
He also projected an air of authority and worked to descalate the situation by using words while defending himself. These are actually super important, as well. That and, you know, having basic personal competency at self defense.
So it was dangerous and a risk, but neither foolish or stupid. And heroism needs to be neither foolish or stupid. So it’s a balance.

Young collies are basically overgrown squirrels, with prettier fur and eyes and all the CE tendencies.
Right now I'm arguing with one about the disposition of the sliding glass door in the kitchen while I make my coffee.
(When they become senior citizens, they are no longer squirrels, or whatever they are in-between. They're stegosaurii.)

I sprinkle catnip and leave cat porn out just for that. Makes things go a lot faster.

I guess that means no turtle - Freehold anime night. Tend to fairly like deconstruction shows ^^ (Heck even most of those you've mentioned).
Consider myself a "Anime cretin", meaning that I adore all the lowbrow stuff that would make your curl your toes if shown in a traditional movie - excessive violence, plentiful T&A, extremely harmful social behaviour and utterly deplorable "heroes".
I don't watch anime but even if I did I wouldn't watch lowbrow stuff. There's enough happening in the world that you don't have to. And well that's nice to be told that cats like being in control, because yeah I definitely have leanings in that direction.
I speculate it may be the reason why I chose to GM and not play. I find that the player side of me just isn't present anymore. There's no drive to adventure, just the knowledge that I'm better off not playing due to vastly different GM/player expectations.
It probably isn't good for me in the long run (since it decreases my player empathy) and possibly could lead me to burning out in the long run. But I suppose I'll face that day when I get there.

I like the ideas presented in Playtest blogpost about spells. Some things I wanted to introduce myself, like heightened spells with increased effects instead of having to learn long chains for various versions of the same spell over and over.
Or, you know, power points and augmentation, just sayin’...

Oh, gods. Not Far Cry 5 references! Everyone is loving it: The kids, Shiro, Shiro's son, NobodysWife.
It holds 0 appeal to me.
I try to play it a bit just to make a little progress so when people want me to play with them I can, but I consider it the most unfun game I've been stuck playing in quite a while.
I just don't like first-person shooters. Never have. Never will.
Yeah. I enjoyed Turok, once, but have never really gotten much into them. I really want to play Perfect Dark (my wife and brother-in-law were big fans, once), but I've just never had the opportunity.

Especially if you put "can shave an angry bear with a skid loader" on your resume.
We have issues with EPIC as well. It's a pile of dung, but in the medical software world, it's one of the best there is for what it does. It's a really sad state of affairs - it's utter crap, and yet everything else is somehow worse.
Also...I probably know which hospital you are talking about, and I know a couple people there as well (assuming I'm guessing the right hospital). One of my players works there, and I know a guy in IT named Eric W. Curious if it's someone you know.

Lemons are much more popular than limes, yet limes are less sour. Lemon scented products are everywhere, but no lime scented ones. Lemonade stands are popular summertime projects for children, but have you ever seen a limeade stand? Limes are the Luigi of the fruit world.
But... limes are smaller, bitter, and less awesome... that doesn't describe Luigi at all!
