So I have to admit, Death Note is indeed getting less interesting as the season goes on.
At the beginning, it was a wonderful morality play on age-old questions:
Unfortunately, I think the writers got tired of playing with the personal ambiguities of those lines (I cannot imagine two people agreeing on the "location" of the second line, for example).
So they gave up and turned it into a good old-fashioned noir murder mystery.
It still has the supernatural elements, but without moral ambiguity it's not nearly so interesting as it was at the start...
EDIT: But apparently moral ambiguity DOES cause me to disrobe. Go figure...

At the beginning, it was a wonderful morality play on age-old questions:
"If you had the ability to anonymously kill someone who deserved to be killed, would you do it?"
"Who, exactly, deserves to die?"

as a manga, it is a lot less obvious than as an anime- probably because it becomes obvious when two people aren't blathering to each other in real time. The manga is a bit more subtle.

Customer: I know this circular has been expired for twelve days now, you know it's been expired for twelve days now. The sign clearly lists the price that's not on sale. But I insist, no demand! You give this price!
Me: ummmm, no...
How it would play out at our retail location...
Customer: You give this to me or else!
Manager: We will not tolerate threats!
Customer: FINE! I'LL TAKE MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!
Next Day...
Corporate Customer Satisfaction: Give them whatever they want.

Bitter old lady robbed me of at least twenty minutes of life b+$#~ing about the presents she had to buy for her ungrateful grandkids and THE OTHER grandma can buy dolls, so why can't she, and... gah! See!
That's the problem with Madison, all the damn (time) vampires.
Its how they live so long they steal the time of the young!!!

We have one Hatchimal left which we plan to raffle off to a random rewards club member that spends at least fifty dollars in a four hour period Saturday. On the tail end of another 6-10 inches of snow.
Any thing less then several long term injuries and I'll be very disappointed.
"Let the gladiatorial games commence!"
Will there be a betting pool to see how many major injuries there will be?

I like the "100 laser eyes" idea. The "unconnected dots" bit held some interest, too -- though mostly as a soon-to-be-developed monster from yours truly.
Which brings to mind the nyths -- I think that's the right name -- from Forgotten Realms; I always wanted one as a familiar for my sorcerer . . . .
Anyhow, "Laser Doom-eyes Swarm" hitting a table far from most of you in the not-too-distant future . . . . :D

Time Thief
Medium Monstrous Humanoid (Human)
Special Attacks: Steal Time - On a successful melee touch attack, the Time Thief reduces the target's maximum age by 1D10 Years. The Time Thief then stops ageing for a period of time equal to the amount it drained. This time loss is permanent and cannot be restored by anything less than a Lesser Wish.
Take this idea and run with it. :)

Now I'm curious, because I sense a (possible) story -- didn't you say you were class of '87? I'm 49 and class of '85. A one-year difference is different birthdays. A two-year difference could be an interesting story, or could just be teenagerdom...

Teenagerdom. Got held back a couple of years. Once was when my grades weren't high enough to move on. The other was when I skipped school a lot because I found my classes extremely boring. The classes recommended to me by an incompetent School Counselor. I graduated when I was twenty. So, yes, I wasn't a perfect student.

Hey, I graduated college with an extremely generous 3.0 average. Considering that in Quantum Physics you needed a 28% to get a B+, and in Physics lab you couldn't get lower than a C if you just showed up and I ended up with a D+, I know what it's like.
Took a year and a half off, worked retail, and learned that school really WAS far more interesting than "real life", so I went back to grad school and got a Ph.D. with a near-4.0.
Nothing like reality to make one appreciate school.

Hey! Quantum Leaping is hard on everyone! You just gotta suck it up and do whatever the hologram tells you.
No matter how degrading.

Addendum! Bitter old lady robbed three other people after me of precious time, all told she arrived at 9:30 and left ten minutes to midnight, and took twenty minutes checking out so she could have something shipped to a different store so a member of her family can rob others of their time as well.
"I hate lists! Why when I was kid we didn't have all of this (shakes her phone in my face) people just got you whatever they wanted and you kept it!"
Is still seared into my brain. :-\
