No such luck. My knees are so bad an examining doc would probably tell the poor guy he owed me two replacements. Hey, wait.....
How is your westward-ho thing going?
Did you call me a ho?
Honestly, it's not going all that well right now. I've been trying to get interviews with no luck. We'd like to have something in place before moving, but if we wait much longer, our window my close. (We've been planning on staying with my brother for a little while, but his wife has a baby on the way, so that's a pretty firm deadline.)

So, there's this guy that bugs the bejeebers out of me. You all know who and why. Well, he recently posted a picture of himself online, hugging his newly acquired copy of Ultimate Magic. He looked so happy, like a great big, innocent kid. Made me think, maybe I should strive to be a little more tolerant of people who bug the bejeebers out of me. Maybe the whole world just needs a copy of Ultimate Magic to hug. If that's the case, all I need is enough Sharpies to go mark out "Magus" and write "Warlock" in all of them.
When I saw that photo of which you speak, I knew there was no divine justice in this world and thus my philosophical position was assured.

Seems that way a lot. People say it gets better.
Daughter flipped last nite back into her angry/sad funk. Before that the weekend was great. I think she stresses herself out getting ready for school and the source of most of her angst. I'm going to try and get her to realize that reducing some of her stimuli in the evening can be a good thing for the brain and mood. ie. lay off the FB and texting whilst playing video games or watching TV.
She'd benefit from therapy, but I need to convince her of that. Without necessarily rushing to meds. There is no magic pill. She seems to believe there is.

Mmm... Pez
Seriously, though, I hope everything works out for the best. It took me until halfway through college to realize that I'd been clinically depressed from around seventh grade until then.

Sad thing is that she, and some 'friends' have already convinced her that she is also bi-polar as well as depressed. And pills will make it all better. I'm saying let's start with therapy and see what they say.

/sigh. As someone who has a psych degree I whole heartedly agree and am a little distressed. It is one thing to talk to friends and get some advice. It is a whole nother deal to get diagnoses from them. You really should only get them from a trained professional. I wish you the best and hope things work out with your daughter.

Anyone know where I can find a free .rar file for download?
I need a copy for some Shadows of Amn modification files.r
Something that'll open/uncompress a RAR, or something that'll let you compress files as a RAR?
If you just need to open/uncompress RARs, use 7-Zip. As bulletproof as a Windows program can get, and it's 100% free open-source software.
If you need to compress files in a RAR, you're pretty much limited to WinRAR. Unfortunately, after 30 days, the trial version expires.

Depending on where you get WinRar you can just click No Thanks and it'll still work after the 30 days.

Thanks. Distressed. That seems to describe my wife and my lives lately.
Can you suggest any books that might help? Either us or our daughter. I've already told her that my insurance covers therapy, and it would be done out of the school environment, but she has yet to warm up to it. Also, beyond the stimulus junkie problem she is an attention-hound. She gets angry if she feels people are 'ignoring' her, which leads to her friends to avoid her. Self-fulfilling prophecy. It's almost a constant need for interaction, and constant need to be 'doing' something. She is non-stop. I'm trying to get her to realize that down time can be a good thing.

I admit my degree in psych is just a bachelors degree, but I focused in counseling. I can't think of any books off hand without knowing the whole situation. I would potentially suggest getting a consultation with a counselor and potentially see what they suggest. You could also take your daughter to the consulation and see how things go.

She sounds a lot like my little sister. If it helps, my little sister doesn't throw crazy tantrums anymore and has a pretty normal life. Still doesn't sit still ever, but what am I going to say, I'm just as bad. :)
But yes, therapy is important. Even if medication is warranted, therapy can make all the difference when it comes to forming strategies to deal with it when emotions are spiraling out of control. Good luck. I know that this is a difficult process. And good for you for being there to help and encourage throughout this process.

Sad thing is that she, and some 'friends' have already convinced her that she is also bi-polar as well as depressed. And pills will make it all better. I'm saying let's start with therapy and see what they say.
Save us from internet psychologists! Nobody worth their salt is going to hand out pills like candy. The diagnosis requires meetings and discussions, so that might help lay the groundwork for therapy. If you call around to make appointments, see if they are therapy-focused rather than drug-focused. Not that meds are useless, but serious treatment involves a combo of talking/behavioral and drug therapies.

Welcome back, nathan. I though perhaps you kidnapped Lindisty - haven't seen her around much, either.
Leafy is probably getting pruned right around now. Hope that all goes well. At the very least, it explains why he is quieter than usual.
Freehold, hope things are improving on the homefront. CH, your life sounds a bit scary. Good luck to all.

In an effort to head off Freehold's aneurysm, TS changes the subject.
Does anyone know anything about holiday trends and foreign calendars? I'm writing setting details for a homebrew that just happens to have 365.25 days per year. [Read: stuff my players will likely never ever care about ;)] I know that all cultures tend to have similar major holidays around the same times every year. (Christmas, Hanukkah, etc.) But I'm not much into holidays myself, and all I know is the Roman calendar.
