Update for local FAWTL peeps: it looks like my days off will be Tuesday (always, we're not open), Saturday and Sunday. I will be at OwlCon for the Friday and Saturday stuff, working security one shift each day. Inbox me on FB for my new number (or here if you're in NY and have an allergy to that site ;-) ).

It's really hard. My own grandmother suffered a nasty fall nearly two years ago now that left her permanently brain-damaged. Her husband stopped helping with her medical bills last month, after stealing all the money from their joint accounts last year. Now the lawyers are getting involved, and it's not going to be pretty.

I think I remember you telling us about her husband before. I'm sorry he's such a horrid jerk.

Yeah I have to get stronger glasses every two years or so, so probably not a great option.
{makes note not to stand in front of Orthos when he has the sun behind him shining through glasses}
I'm pretty nearsighted in one eye and really nearsighted in my other one. The prescription seems to have leveled off over the last several years, and I've been doing well with contact lenses. I think many contacts wearers get used to poking things into and out of their eyes (not all that much different than wearing mascara), but ain't nobody going near my eyes with a lasik or any other laser.*
* Which is weird, cause I'd be at the front of the line for William Gibson-/Shadowrun-style Zeiss cybereye-replacements with the full thermographic/low-light/flare protection/smartgun II upgrades.

My sight changed really dramatically during the summer the year I turned 18 (1997). I went from being able to sit in the back of class and have no problem reading anything on the blackboard to having to squint even if I sat up front (which got a bit weird when I went to do my physical for the military and the forms I'd filled in in March said I had perfect eye-sight and six months later I was squinting like an owl in bright sunlight).
I'm still using the glasses I got back then, since my eye-sight's not changed since I got them...

Make certain they're properly secured. Last thing you need is some corporate sales jerk hacking your eyes to spam you with advertisements. Or you could just have them non-wireless, but that doesn't seem to be encouraged by the latest ruleset.

I successfully made my Will save to disbelieve SR 5e and its setting changes.

If no one's saying the word "chummer", it's not Shadowrun.

5e SR brought "chummer" back ^^ On page 14, in the section where they describe the setting.
They're still going wireless-happy, though :S
But, they brought the slang back, actually wrote a full rules set (glares at 4e), and they made picking human as Priority A actually worth something.

Morning one and all. Hope ye are having a good one, and have a wonderful weekend coming up. TGIF and all that. :)
@aeglos - I add my well wishes to the others. I hope Sabine's grandma suffered no additional injuries and is recovering well. *fingers crossed*
@MagusJanus - And my sympathies to you too, friend. I hope your grandmother is getting the care she needs. *crosses more fingers*
@Jess Door - I'm very sorry your family has had to go through such a thing. I hope the lawyers can do some good.
@Freehold - Congrats on six years married. Wishing you both the many years of continuing happiness.
Also, does SR 4e not have "chummer"? I am playing in a semi frequent campaign atm and the GM frequently throws in slang that I am learning is from the setting, chummer being among them, but that may just be the GM's doing.

Realized something today...
I live in a desert and dislike snow.
I love warm weather.
I enjoy math.
I like Joss Whedon.... I'm the anti-Freehold.
Except for the desert thing, this could be me. Although I never considered myself the Anti-Freehold, so much as a resistance to his boreal nature.
