Kids watch too much TV (or play on the PC) nowadays anyway.

It's quite sad to see the state my younger brother is in nowadays.

He's spoiled rotten, overweight and very immature for a 9-year old.

Worse yet, he's starting to slack off on homework and exercise in favor of playing Minecraft.

There are young women watching, too. They're less emphasized because ~EVERYONE~ knows it's COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY unacceptable for boys to do girly things ohoho or whatever.

As for the former, have you seen some of the stuff that passes for TV lately? Kids'll watch anything when they're five. They'll feel deep shame in the teen years for it, but they'll watch it.

There's been bad tv as long as there has been tv. There are just more channels now than there used to be. Law of averages and all that. :P

That said there are many clever, funny, enjoyable cartoons out there too. I've always loved cartoons and even though MLP isn't my cup of tea, I understand why people would like it.

It must be vacation. Pancakes and bacon for breakfast! Nom Nom Nom Nom

Thanksgiving plans - drive to Minnesota today - pick up middle son's girlfriend for the weekend - introduce her to Pathfinder through the beginner box. Drive home on Sunday. Looking forward to a great holiday.

And like any fandom there are people who take it way, way over the top, or push it on people to a point it becomes annoying or aggrivating, or otherwise give the fandom a bad name.

Oh god, I feel like crying right now. The last customer just happened to have nobody to talk to, so she took her time to tell that she's probably going to end up spending Christmas alone, her son being busy in London and her ex-husband having left her for someone younger. Old lady was almost crying when the call ended, and I just feel terrible hearing about all that, especially since she first apologized for having to cancel her magazine order. Couldn't even bring myself to wishing her a Merry Christmas...

Yeah. I did notice she didn't want to end the call until the part where she was almost crying.

That, and the huge amounts of M-rated, very NSFW things that I've had the misfortune of seeing among the brony masses.

Yeah... That makes no sense to me whatsoever!

looks around nervously, returns to 4chan quietly

More seriously, some people see the erotic in anything. Also, timing of ones sexual development plays a major role - most of my friends went through a sailor moon phase when that show was big. Power Rangers, pokemon and (for some reason) digimon are also highly fetishized.

augh... That's rough. I'm glad you listened to her. I would have given her a number for a crisis center if I could.

Yeah, some people take things too seriously.

Well, it seems I'll be playing Santa this year for a group at a retirement home for abandoned old people (apparently, I meet the beard & belly qualifications). Which will be rather odd, considering the youngest ones triple me in age.

On the other hand, I have been strictly forbidden from buying the candy for the family Christmas gathering. Apparently, everyone thought I went overboard with Snickers and Milky Ways last year. Which I protest, as there is no way to go overboard with Snickers and Milky Ways.

AWRIGHT KLAUS! For a dude stuck in a fish's body, you are pretty awesome.

Klaus, is it true Chileans refer to Sweden as "the world's other cold a%&+%@$~," or is that just the ones who came here back in the 70s and 80s and their kids?

(Things the striker in the soccer-team of my youth claimed.)

Dear me, I'm rather potty-mouthed today, aren't I?

Hm, I have to admit I had never heard that expression.

Then again, there is the typical expression that Chile is the world's frozen butt (I mean, the shape of the territory certainly doesn't help against that analogy), so perhaps the expatriates that went over to Sweden in the 70's adapted it to the other side of the planet.

It's certainly fitting at times. (About Sweden, I mean. Never had the fortune to go to Chile myself.)

Also, why are both Kthulhu and Gorbacz so unfunny all of a sudden?

This is basically how most of my sub jobs at the high school level go. Kid makes a nerdy joke, I comment on it, and the realization that I'm a nerd paradoxically makes me cool. I don't get it. I'm sure as heck enjoying it, but I don't get it at all.

At our recent company Halloween party I recognized the dance, but only because my son showed me some youtube videos of it.

Realizing that some of my teachers were geeks was a very important part of my development. Without my Spanish teacher, I would not have gotten into white wolf or gone to a convention, where I saw ranma 1/2 for the first time.

Also, to me, it's Gundam style.

I only ever visit four threads anymore: FAWTL, What Music Are You Listening To, and my two PbPs. In the 6 years (son of a b&#%*...) that I've been on these forums, I've seen OTD go from the most welcoming internet forum I've ever seen to a barren wasteland of misery. I only stick around because of you guys.

I basically have no use for the political threads any more. There are a few people who have sharply different views from mine that I respect, but most of those trolls are a waste of skin and oxygen. It's just not worth my time to argue with bigots that I think are morally and intellectually bankrupt. I'm also not happy about how only one side ever seems to get called out for name calling but the other side can threaten folks with apparent impunity. *shrug*

I basically just stick around for FAWTL too. Alas I think most of the FAWTL activity has gone to facebook. :(

I don't think this is true about FB siphoning off some FaWtL posters. I think its more just life getting busy as I haven't seen a lot of posting in other venues either.

As far as the forums go - 95% of my time is spent in FAWTL or PBPs. Too little time available to waste it on mindless arguing.

That makes me sad.
