Whew. Our AC blew up a couple of days ago and it's been in the hundreds every day. We pretty much stick to the basement, try to get cool air inside at night, and drink a lot of slushy frozen water. Anybody got any other hints for coping? I know some of you guys have been deployed in hot climes before.
Yikes! I hope you get the AC fixed/replaced soon.

It's the house AC. A friend's uncle is studying HVAC and should be over sometime this week to look at it and see if he can fix it for cost +$20 or so. With our luck, it's shot and we can't afford to replace it.
Puffin is doing OK. Pertinent to the medication discussion, we're both trying to find something that will simply help us function.
Puffin is big into the Total War games, but loves him some Gal Civ. I don't do much gaming since the Xbox croaked. Civ V gets boring after a bit and I can only do Half-Life in short bursts. Of course with the ADHD med, I can sit for long periods of time but not focus like I used to be able to. Blarg.

Oh, no, therapy was tried. Didn't stick. Meds were tried and seemed ok for the first year. (I disagreed, but whatever, parents were paying for them)

Cool wet clothing can do wonders if you don't mind wandering around the basement dripping for a bit, under the same principle as FH mentioned with the showers. Otherwise, fans. Fans everywhere.

And apparently, today is meds day. Which is interesting, because I run a medication group on Wednesdays.
As an aside, be ready for weirdness with your meds in this heat. I strongly, STRONGLY suggest you take cool showers to keep yourselves functional and your core body temp close to normal so the meds don't go weird on you. And I'm sure you're keeping your meds in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight, but I have to stress that one if it's multiple 100+ degree days.
What are you taking for your ADHD?

Yeah, we have all the ceiling fans going along with the big pedestal fan and smaller retro metal one for spot cooling. We've been blowing basement air upstairs with the big fan, but it's getting less than cool down here now.
Another thing - we smell funny. o.O
Fans may not do anything in this heat but blow hot air around. How hot is it going to be today?
And yes, cool showers. Unless you're starting to sweat out the meds, which doesn't happen much nowadays, but is a concern in extreme heat.

It's going to be 108 today (outside), hotter inside. The moving air helps evaporate all the sweat, which does cool us down a lot, believe me!
I take Strattera, which helps bunches with both ADHD and some other weirdness, but costs about $10/day. Puffin is not on anything right now since his SSRI went south on him a couple of weeks ago.

If at all possible, I'd recommend getting out and going somewhere cooler. Expense and the like might be an issue, but if you can manage it getting somewhere more tolerable for a while might do you good. Mall, gaming store, arcade, any place that's AC'd - even for a couple of hours, if you can manage it. I'm sure you know this but shower before you leave ;)

It's sleeping (or trying to) that is a problem. Dang, the bed feels like an oven!
Yeah, I understand. We never had air conditioning when I lived with my parents, and while Michigan doesn't get over 100 for more than a couple weeks of the year, max, it could still be miserable. When the nights get back like that, I used to make a nest of blankets in the basement and sleep there.

Intersting discussion of meds. I'm currently not taking anything more than antihistamines for the first time in many years. I was on trazodone for many years because I needed it to function sine without it I would just stop sleeping. And that made ADHD meds impossible because they didn't play well with the trazodone. I basically treat the ADHD with caffeine as needed because of that. But then my asthma kept getting worse and worse so they kept upping the dosage on my maintenance inhaler....yeah, so I was basically having an allergic reaction plus some other super nasty side effects from the inhaler. >.<
So I stopped taking the inhaler (thanks insurance company that wouldn't pay for my prescription causing a two week gap where I stopped taking the meds that were hurting me...for once your incompetence paid off) and got better. Including my asthma. And for the first time in many years I no longer need the trazodone, which was apparently just acting as a band-aid to help me deal with side effects of another medication. Apparently my brain functions best when left to its own natural imbalance. ^.^

Treppa, that sucks not having AC in those temps. :(
If you can get ice, putting a bowl of ice water right in front of the fan can help provide a little bit of cooler air. Alternately, using a cheap spray bottle full of water and spraying it on yourself as needed. And that's all the useful suggestions I've got.
Edit: Forgot one. Put marbles in freezer and put them in the bed for a few minutes before getting in to cool off the sheets. Not as messy as ice cubes. :)

I swear at other drivers all the time, but I've never experienced road rage that would make me try to drive someone else off the road or anything like that. I have a bad temper so I keep in tight control of it. But I have been on the receiving end of it. I accidentally pulled out in front of someone who was in my blind spot. I immediately got back over a lane to get out of their way, but that didn't stop them from trying to run me off the road (I had my kid in the car at the time too and this was when he was just a toddler). Basically the only things that prevented an accident there was good defensive driving and remebering that I was a block away from the police station and managing to get as far as their parking lot. Because apparently that provided a sanity check for mister road rage.

Yeah, that was completely unlike me, so once I came to my senses (such as they are), I realized I needed to stop taking the medication I was on.

I was turning left out of the apartment parking lot, and traffic on the road was heavy, so I was there a while, waiting. The person behind me decided they were sick of waiting. They kept honking their horn, but traffic was still coming so I didn't budge. After a few more horn honks they pulled to the right, then turned left in front of me without checking traffic...ended up stuck across the lane in front of me waiting for the oncoming traffic! Idiot.
So...I laid into my horn as they blocked the road in front of them. Cars stuck coming the other way, blocked by this idiot, also started honking. Finally they were able to go, and the traffic they'd blocked cleared, and I was able to turn safely. The car was turning left off that road, and I had to too, so I was directly behind them waiting for the light to turn. Just to amuse myself, I honked at them some more until the left turn light was green.

Unfortunately since I live in a college town there are a disproportionate number of young, stupid drivers who don't understand that their actions have consequences. So there's way more road rage than normal around here. It's always good to drive carefully. And this is why I'm jumpy about changing lanes. :/
