Actually, some American slang is just confusing to me.
Thank you Urizen. Reminds of that scene in Austin Powers (Gold Member I think) with the conversation, the on-screen dialogue, and the bouncing white ball.

Hm, that's great, but I still can't speak to those Yankee teenagers! What's a shawty, and what in blazes does it mean to be jiggy with something or other?
I knew that 'shawty' had to do with a (short) attractive woman - especially since on average that women are shorter than men - but I've also come to learn as of recent it's just another way of calling someone 'new' or 'n00b'.
I knew 'jiggy' meant that someone was a snappy or 'fly' dresser, but I'm sure the word has morphed into something more sexual in innuendo at this point. #declarerule34

This argument goes flying out the window when you see a movie like "attack the block"...
"Doc Tryingly Gwan Gwan with the 'airy reptilians gorn and scumbles as we'in nip up the weckershams, innit? Klah-Klah! How'n all gal dem all man dem say "Carsowl" inna states? "Castle?" Hur-hur-hur!"
The youth culture to me, has become inscrutable no matter where you go. Maybe I'm just becoming a fogey. I welcome the transmogrification.

Just popping in to say thank you for all the commiseration posts (both here and on FB) I do appreciate it. I'm still a bit numb, but I am slowly dealing. I hope everyone's Monday is going as well as can be expected for a Monday.

When tragedy has you numb, suck the marrow that is empathy. Seek solace in the fact that in the greater scheme, you're a better person because of that fuzzy. Were he a Vargr, he would have said it himself. Though he probably said it just the same. Surely we was a better Fuzzy by your leadership, as well. This is worthy of mourning, but your pain in lime will be the smallest footnote to how sweetly you remember him. Surround yourself with friends and keep checking in.

Here's a song for all the dearly departed wuppies:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYk_KNHeeA0
I miss you Chappy -- you were the most lovable and irascible monster ever. The day before you died, you came into the kitchen and growled at me for not opening the back door for you, and licked my hand when you came back. When I left the house that day, you were too old to come down the stairs, but you stood at the top and saw us off like some dottering little Stalin. You woke my mother-in-law to-be gently in the middle of the night to say goodbye, and slipped off to a quiet corner to make an exit. We buried you in the garden.
Sorry for being a sentimental puss, but some things hit close to home. If you have a forty handy, tip it for the doggies.

Linked.
Enchanting voice, actually. Would love to loop that into a darkwave ambient drone loop even though I'm admittedly more of a metal guy.

The SAW was never one of my favorites. Aren't you in a staff or support unit? It seems interesting that they have SAWs in the TO&E.

Getting to burn through thousands of rounds of ammo and get paid for it is the thing I miss most about the Army.
I never understood my fellow infantrymen who felt this was a chore. If you don't like shooting why the f&&# did you become an 11B??
I was commo, but the last while, I didn't even want to shoot my rifle because it meant I had to clean it. Somebody offered me like 500 M-16 rounds to spend downrange and I didn't want to do it because my rifle would get dirtier.
I hated everything to do with the military. For me it seemed like they took everything that's fun and figured out how to make it a pain in the ass.YMMV.......
edit I don't know if it was 500, because this was 15 years ago, but it was a ludicrous amount of brass. I was like, "let them young guys have fun. I don't even want to clean my rifle any more."

Panel 3 is the best way to smile for the camera
One of my favorite pics of me is from when one of the teens in the church youth group grabbed my camera and said, "SMILE"!
I went for the 'bare your teeth' look. A lot of people say I look mean in it, but what the hell do they know?
I'll have to put it on fb one of these days.

When I was in the basic idea for putting automatic weapons in support battalions was there would likely not be a clearly defined front and rear area. So everyone had to be basically a secondary 11B whether that was true or not you had to know a little about the job anyway.
I'm cool with the notion of using enough gun. I guess I just figured when I was in that if I had to hump a crew served around in might as well be an M60. Nowadays I guess it would be an M240B.
Of course I always seemed to get extra stuff whether it was the old PRC77 or an M203 or both.

40 rounds or 640 rounds, I've still got to do maintenance, but I tended to enjoy the ranges even when we were running them.

I read Candide's Voltaire once.
He went in the army, like 400 years ago or whatever........yknow, 5 years before I went in.....
they marched him around, then beat him for no reason he could tell. Then, they marched him around, and gave him a medal.
Then they marched him around, and beat him for no reason he could tell. And,........the only thing that had changed from Voltaire's time to mine was the rifle type and the Drill Sargent was expressly forbidden from beating me physically any more......details, man.
I remember my grandfather in WWII said the drill sargent walked up to him and just gut punched him. Laid him out totally. And, he would just sit there and wonder, for decades, but he had no clue as to why the drill sargent did that to him. It was totally mystifying.

Hell; I don't even know what fobbit means. I might be insulting people; I was "rear echelon" as hell though. I didn't do a damn thing. I went to Panama for two weeks, and got bombed by black birds.
Like, actual black birds, that tried to fly over your head and take a crap on you.
It seemed like everybody and everything hated you in Panama, even the birds.
