Ronin order ability without master, redundant?

Samurai Discussion: Round 1

Isnt the Ronin order ability without master redundant with resolve? It sounds like a slightly reworded resolve and making it past zero hit points definitely IS redundant.

we have a half orc ronin in our group, ferocity, resolve, without master? what gives?

its not redundant, its freaking awesome, this guy just wont fall.

resolve goes first to put you at zero (okay somehow he's standing), then when your knocked below zero you use without master (he can't still be standing O.o), then half orc ferocity after that fails (holy crap is he really getting back up??)

They're similar (in that they're both meant to keep you in the fight after you'd normally fall unconscious), but work in pretty different ways.

Resolve (Unstoppable) works like the Diehard feat, except that you don't lose hp for attacking. It lasts until you take another hit (which, since you're still at negative hit points, probably kills you).

Without Master actually prevents you from going into negative hit points in the first place. So long as the initial attack doesn't kill you, you bounce back up to 1 hp, and unlike Resolve you don't have the staggered condition so you can act normally.

Resolve has a limit on uses per day, but can be used more than once in a fight. Without Master has no daily limit, but can only be used once per combat.

Orc Ferocity does have some overlap with Resolve, as it too works similar to Diehard, but it's basically worse in every way. It only lasts a round, and you're disabled instead of staggered, which means you get a penalty to speed on top of the normal action limitations.

This is why I love Samurai. I love character archetypes that just refuse to die.
