Gunslinger Discussion: Round 1

The Exchange

So, I don't know exactly where to put this because this doesn't apply to a gunslinger per se. I was thinking, with the allowance of my GM, to convert my ranged rogue (currently using a shortbow) in an AP setting, to be able to use a gun (I've currently only played him once because he was introduced last session).

The thing is, he's spec'ed out to do stealth sniping, and I was wondering if the transition was made, what are the minuses the rogue would be taking from shooting a gun, and secondly, are there going to be items (such as a silencer) that lessen these minuses? Because I assume that these guns, in their primitive state, aren't that great for stealth work.

Also, why can you not use the see invisibility sight to see invisible creatures? I don't exactly understand how you can shoot invisible creatures, but not seem them through your sight? I'd say you can focus your view through the site to do just that, but you'd take minuses to perception for other things due to your intense focus.

Part of the problem here is that I don't think the guns are open for playtesting. Not sure how that affects discussion, though.

As to your question, I would say that the minuses could be measured based on range increments of the weapon in question. Maybe a reverse thing (-10 for point blank, -8 for one increment out, -7 for two, etc.) on top of sniping penalties.

I was also confused about the see invis sight. I suppose they didn't want people to be able to just walk around with a scope to their face. Additionally, maybe there is something magical about how you sight on a target that makes it momentarily visible. Or something.
