Scarab Sages

Hello im starting this thread with the hopes that someone can help me fine tune and think of ideas for classes and other steam punk related stuff

In my world a war between the goodly surface races and the combined forces of the Duergar and Drow the evil races were repelled easily and other then the loss of many small settlements the force was repelled without incident. An inquiry begins when strange weapons are found on Duergar leaders. The only function found for them are putting explosives down a tube and using it to propel objects at things. these weapons although ineffective are the basis for creations called hand cannons which fire objects ranging between burning oil and balls of worked metal.

what i have so far in the tech and class department.

new weapons=muskets or hand cannons
new classes: nature warden/wild priest not sure on name, and rifle man, and swashbuckler
removed classes-cleric,druid,and paladin.

nature warden/wild priest-with the destruction of the worshipers of nature the people born with nature's blessing but without a guiding force become conduits to natures primal fury.

Mekanic-with the death of the druidic nature the rise of clockwork and engines began.

rifle man- A rifleman is a soldier trained in strategy and marksmanship.

Swashbuckler-A person working for their own gains with a specialty in piloting vehicles.

I have most of the nature warden or wild priest or whatever name i like next written out in a planmaker document

Let it be a high magic steam punk. Wizards build devices that make food out of think air. Everyone moves into giant cities. The countryside is overgrown and abandoned. Monsters come back, same with druids... weird stuff.

Imagine Final Fantasy with airships combined with points of light.

Thank you for the ideas i am thinking that druids will be like a society of interspersed groups of hermits who worship nature and rein in the wild priests they find.

Maybe this setting can help you spur some ideas. It's a free download there too.

Rhune: Dawn of Twilight

And in this thread, many posters share Steam Punk setting ideas, Maybe that can help too.

Steampunk RPG Reccomendation

Sorry I am not good with mechanic ideas. But many posters are really good. If you could narrow down a bit more what you want the cannons to accomplish...I bet they could help you with statting them up :)

Rhune: Dawn of Twilight

Oooh! Thanks! Just came across this and was not even aware this existed. =)

Cool. So the druids are like nature's police? ;)

How about what propels the weapons? How is it made? I had a game with gunpowder - except that instead of the classic ingredients, one vital component was a crystal found only in dead/decayed bodies. I renamed it hellpowder. The PCs were really boged out about firing weapons made (in some way) from stuff found on dead people. Yet they kept using them. It was a very interesting experiment.

What kind of damage to the surface and the underworld did this war cause? Might there be bards who try to heal the wounds and rifts? A new kind of worldbalm?

Who within the existing 'goodly' community has great interest in these new devices? And why? Does evil lurk behind a pleasant and plastic smiling face?

Dwarves-dwarven defensive weapons will shoot using gases that are piped into the barrel then sealed using a lever. Pretty much anything on hand that will seal the gas in the barrel. Conventional weaponry in the Dwarven kingdom include two separate shells that are put in through the top of the barrel one has gunpowder the other the bullet or bullets the bullet shell peels of the bullet or bullets.

ELVES-Almost 3/4 of the elves rejected the new weaponry and left into the wilds. The main weapons that the elves who embraced the guns is a harpoon gun with a trailing rope it uses packed gunpowder to fire.

GNOMES- the gnomes have the longest ranged weapons and have found a new way to confound enemies they cast a suppressed illusion on the ball and shoot it it then show the planned illusion where the ball makes first contact.

Humans-enjoy every type of weapon they get their hands on and will pay top dollar for the quirky ones(ill explain what i mean by that later)

HALFLINGS-halflings most popularly use small concealable single handed weapons.

Orcs- orcs half or not will be playable and they're favorite ammunition is either a circular piece of metal forged so it is pointed or the tusks of dead brethren.

Gunpowder- the gunpowder is made from charcoal mixed with large amounts of highly flammable material like underground gases mixed into the water or firewater and other strong alcohols then left to dry into the charcoal.

Duergar weaponry- the duergar are the supposed creators of these weapons but no one is sure due to the fact that they found no schematics of the mechanisms inside any of the encampments.

Although no one really know who wants the duergar weapons there is someone paying top dollar through small companies in order to get a hold of them.

One thing i forgot to mention is handguns are going to be more of a novelty due to the large chances of misfiring.
