Time period in Golarion

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

What is the general time period in comparison to Earth's history?
What is more advanced and less advanced, as far as comparison in technology?
For example:
civil engineering, i.e. sewers(is it like the Roman Empire and such or more modern?)
mechanical engineering,
metallurgy,
weapon smithing, (is there a region that makes Damascan steel or anyone that makes swords in the Japanese tradidtion?)
medicine,
chemistry; what elements and/or compounds have been discovered?
agricultural,
the sciences in general.
I know that magic will likely side-track and possibly stunt some of the sciences in the general consensus; but I see it as not everyone is a mage, so those who aren't will seek to find ways to emulate that which they don't have. Now to guns, how long have they been around, even if it is in that small country where magic is dead. The length of time and the monstrosities that they seem to have there will actually speed up the process and experimentation of firearms, IMHO. That being said, firearms are a separate and an often debated topic deserving of another post.
While specifics would be nice, even just a general century classification (i.e. 1500s-1600s), it would greatly help me, as a player, to get the feel of the world and what my character could be expected to know and not use knowledge he shouldn't have for that time period.
thank you for your time and patience

This might help :)

[spoiler]Sewers are the best the Romans had to offer with the Middle Ages. Ie you have water moving along stone troughs and hydrolics in dwarven cities, and copper piping and granit piping. Probably with water elementals to push it and help cleans it and fire elementals to heat it.

Many sewers are like the Paresian catacombs, or under Rome. Lots of tunnels, but with good granit and copper piping. Many cities have Otoyoughs or Neo Otoyoughs down there to clean up the mess and slimes, molds and gellys down there as well as dire rats and where rats ;) this ish shown in Cities like Korvosa.

More Magical places like an Arabian style city would have elementals like the Dwarves. The Dwarves and the Arabic style cities are just a guess, but it makes a lot of sense as they have the craftsmanship and the access to the magic and the creatures and the need for sanitary conditions.

Sewers are the best the Romans had to offer with the Middle Ages. Most places.

Tian Xia has Japanese style Katanas in the area and such.

Damascus steel is in masterwork Elven and Dwarven goods, and Mithril, Adamantite are actually higher grade. But for making that kind of steel you could find that in many countries under Masterwork if you look had enough. Think Qadira.

There is a place with no magic that produces guns, and gunpowder. Flintlocks and breech or thereabouts...

Mechanical Engineering- Mideval to Renaisance for the most part. Dwarves again being the top end. But... There are aleins and a crashed worldship with super metals and high tech. There are also clockwork men. Magical clockwork men. Though most people and places are standard midieval level tech.

Medicine is again, midieval. Midwives, Herbalists, and Healers - bonesetters, tooth pullers etc. But with Druids, Clerics, Witches, Acolytes, and Oracles who can cast healing spells, and Paladins who can lay on hands and cast healing spells, you could get along a little better than the local healer.

Chemistry - Gunpowder, and we have alchemists. Other than that I am not sure.

Agricultural - Midieval as per the area you are in. Avistan- Europe,
Osirion- Egypt, Tian Xia- China etc...

Sciences- Mathematics, etc. Middle Ages.

Guns have been around for a few hundred years but are relativly unknown outside central africa um I mean Garund. Think Pirate level muskets :) and you will be ok for concept for now.

Craft: Armour, Weapons, Bows, Baskets, Blacksmith, Books, Calligraphy, Carpentry, Cloth, Clothing, Gemcutting, Glass, Jewelry, Leather, Locks, Painting, Painting, Pottery, Rope, Sculpture, Ships, Shoes, Stonemasonry, Traps,

Profession: Architect, Baker, Barkeep, Barmaid, Barrister, Brewer, Butcher, Clerk, Cook, Courtesean,
Driver, Engineer, Farmer, Fisherman, Fortune-Teller, Gambler, Gardener, Herbalist, Inkeeper, Librarian, Medium, Merchant, Midwife, Miller, Miner, Porter, Sailor, Scribe, Shepherd, Soldier, Soothsayer, Stable Master, Tanner, Torturer, Trapper, Woodcutter,[spoiler/]
