Bear in mind that if you take Canny Defense, you lose your light armor proficiency.

Oops, I did miss that. I'll downgrade my armor to masterwork leather.

One more question, I took the Dverge weakness trait light sensitivity. (Dazzled in Full Sunlight) Does Aviona's "ozone" layer prevent a full sunlight day or doesn't that change. And when exactly is full sunlight?

Good questions!

I'd rule that Balvora never has full sunlight. Aviona would have the equivalent only for a few hours around noon (more in summer, less in winter). In the Estren Territories and in human lands, anytime the sun is out, you have full sunlight.

Also note that dazzled is a more severe penalty in Kirthfinder than it is in Pathfinder, if that affects your decision.

I did notice the difference but I like the flavor of the weaknesses so I was good for taking it no matter what. (I think I'll take the extra darkvision range to counter balance with the light sensitivity)

---------------DEADLINE------------------

In fairness to the players who have updated their characters (Caspian and Jaegr complete; Wyvurn almost done) and made new ones (Cricket complete), we're a day past the November 28 deadline. Any characters not submitted and approved by 17:00 CST tomorrow (30 November 2011) will be removed from play. That means that Vanya may be sent back to Aviona after all, and that kyrt's goblin ranger may turn out to have been one of the ones killed in the last big fight.
---------------------------------------------

Play will re-commence on Thursday, December 1, 2011.

Ok, now you guys have got me curious, what did she roll?

Sorry for the long wait kyrt, now that I'm home I was able to dig out her sheet.

Here are her starting stats and where she placed them. And she chose elf for the race.

17 STR +1 level increase
18 DEX +2 racial
17 CON -2 racial
18 INT +2 racial
14 WIS
16 CHA

First, I owe everyone here an apology. I let myself get swept up in the Pathfinder Online Forum and neglected my character creation. I wish everyone the best of luck.

And TOZ, welcome home. No bullet holes right?

Kirth, have you reviewed Vanya? Here is the link.

All pieces present and in working order!

From what you've got so far, it looks like you've gone Fighter 2/Witch 1. Attribute shuiffling seems reasonable and feats look good so far. Go ahead and finish your stats and update your profile, and let's take a look at the whole thing.

Good to hear! (about the starting to play, that is)

So, Cricket's good? I have to admit that I found your ruleset intimidating, Kirth. As a DM, I find that I still constantly confuse D&D 3.0, 3.5 and Pathfinder; trying to make sure I created a Kirthfinder character without looking the fool was a task I took seriously, believe me!

Anyway, I can't wait to roll!

Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid wrote:

Understood. It's a lot easier for houstonderek and myself, because it's a more or less straighforward list of things we thought would make 3.5/PF run better -- retaining all the complexity of the latter, but shifting the "feel" of play back towards 1e (and a few other game systems as well) a bit. I can guess that, for anyone who doesn't share our peculiar take on gaming, it would be fairly bewildering. Luckily, your referee is here to remind you if you forget to assign skill points!*

* Speaking of which, I'm having a hard time figuring yours out. It looks like your Craft bonus is 1 point too high [even with 3 ranks assigned it would be 3 +3 (class skill) +2 (Int) = +8], and that you also put 3 ranks into Diplomacy and Survival, and 2 ranks in all the others except Spellcraft, which apparently got only 1 rank? Which totals 22 skill points out of 24 you'd have. It would make things easier to track if you could use some notation including # of ranks -- I always use something like "Athletics (2/+5)," which would indicate 2 ranks assigned and a total skill bonus of +5.

P.S. For ease of play, you'll probably want to indicate your touch and flat-footed AC, your hp threshholds for lightly and heavily wounded, your number of hero points (start with 1), your typical spells prepared, and the different bonuses you have in each of your favored terrains -- because the druid one scales with level and the goblin one doesn't. And you'll need to stat your CR 1 animal companion.

Aaaargh! And I thought I did such a good job...

[Scurries off to look at character sheet]

Okay, skills:

First, I am going to write out my thinking and then check it against the rules. Give me a couple of minutes in between posts and maybe I'll get it myself.

I am a goblin druid (4) with a 14 Intelligence (+2), thus I get 18 skill points to spend. (3rd level x3)

Athletics: 2 ranks, 3 class skill = +5

Craft (alchemy): 2 ranks, +2 racial bonus, 3 class skill, +2 ability = +9

Diplomacy: 3 ranks, 3 class skill = +6

Handle Animal: 3 ranks, Skill Focus (goblin trait), 3 class skill = +9

Heal: 2 ranks, 3 class skill, +3 ability = +8

Linguistics: 1 rank, 3 class skill, +2 ability = +6-- I may have written down +7

Perception: 1 rank, +2 racial bonus, 3 class skill, +3 ability = +9

Spellcraft: 1 rank, 3 class skill, + 2 ability = +6

Stealth: 3 ranks, Skill focus (goblin trait), +3 ability = +9

Survival: free druid ranks 3, class skill 3, +3 ability = +9

EDIT: Perception goes up one from ability modifier.

EDIT 2: Everything looks good to me now, so to address the examples you list:

Craft (alchemy) I only put in 1 rank, but you're forgetting the +2 racial bonus, but yeah, I made an addition mistake on Linguistics.
I'm still missing something, though. Why do I have 24 skill ranks? We're third level, right? What am I missing?

I'm on it.

Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid wrote:

Druid = 4/level x 3rd level = 12 pts.

Druid Bonus (Survival) = 1/level x 3rd level = 3 pts.
Intelligence 14 = 2/level x 3rd level = 6 pts.
Secondary Skill = 1/level x 3rd level = 3 pts.

Total Skill Points: 24.

Awesome! I like the character a lot, and I dig your play style. Glad to have you back in.

Okay, so I wasn't including my free survival ranks, which brings it up to 21. I totally missed secondary skill points. Where are they?

Okay, nevermind. I found it. I missed the part where I got more points, though!

Comrade Anklebiter wrote:

Ch 3 (Skills) presents a main section of "primary" skills, followed by a section on "secondary" skills (things like Craft, Profession, etc.). Each PC gets 1 rank/level in a secondary skill of their choice, to encourage people having oddball talents with little practical use while adventuring.

Dark Archive

Kirth, what about your rules for Mojo (or gp value equivalent of gear)? Are they on? If so, I may choose to enchant my sword. Now, do we have "par" level of mojo, or lesser? I may opt to remove Extra Arcane Bond feat and enchant Mourn (the sword) as unique magic item. What do you think?

Okay, so re: secondary skill points. I totally want to dump them in a skill I made up called Perform: Seduction. Can I, please?

Kirth Gersen wrote:

So, I did up the AC, put in the typical spell list (which I had done but neglected to type up). I'm pretty beat right now, so I'll do up the other stuff tonight when I wake up or tomorrow when I get out of work.

So, I've never done pbp before. What time are we going to start? And what's Texas, two hours behind the East Coast, or just one?

I'm wicked excited!

I fear for my Dverge's sanity

If you're not a barely-pubescent wood elf, you've got nothing to fear!

It is actually already going......

I didn't see the secondary skills either.

I dumped all mine into administration, being a former court jester I should know something about beuracracy.....

Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid wrote:

Seduction should be rolled into Diplomacy. Two for one! Houstonderek did have his character Cadogan max out ranks in Perform (sex), however.

Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid wrote:

As soon as you see the first in-game post tomorrow in the "game play" thread, it's on! Texas is an hour behind our more civilized 13 colonies brethren, so it's 15:12 here right now if it's 16:12 for you.

Hee hee!

Can't wait for tomorrow!

nightflier wrote:

Yes! Good reminder.

Everyone should have a minimum of 1,650 gp worth of magic gear (and optimally close to 3,000 gp): Caspian's ring, for example, is worth 2,000 gp, as is the +1 dagger you guys found, so people with those are in the right general range. Jaegr's armor is worth only 1,000 gp, so he's behind the curve a bit (not that he really needs a boost!). If you want to amp up your gear a bit (Caspian, invisibility 1/day for your ring at CL 3 would cost 2 * 3 * 2000 / 5 = 2,000 gp -- so you'd be eligible for it next level!), go ahead and do so until your total is no more than 3,000 gp (not including bonded items and family heirlooms).

Try to stick with items you already have, instead of adding new ones; remember that in Kirthfinder you don't take a cost increase for multiple properties on the same item, and specific "slots" aren't enforced. For example, a +1 resistance bonus to saves from an item costs 1,000 gp. Caspian (if he wanted to) could conceivably learn that his ring also confers that power (total 3,000 -- right at par), or he could declare that one of the coins he found is his "lucky gold piece" (same +1 resistance to saves), but it would be fairly lame to just say he found a cloak of resistance +1 by the side of the road somewhere.

Be as reative as you like, within the general bounds of the story, and I'll approve most reasonable requests.

I think I'm done, with the possible exception of the sword - but I am really to tired to write it up now. I'll be able to post more in 24 hours, not before.

So, if Vanya is good enough to go, I'll add what you deem necessary tomorrow, and if not - perhaps he will be able to rejoin the party at some later time.

Actually, I dropped that, with the new table composition and all. I figure with max ranks in acrobatics, bluff (much better for seduction than diplomacy, imo), and a decent Perform: Act, I can emulate it well enough anyway.

Oh, yeah, did my comeliness go up a point when I raised my Charisma to 18?

houstonderek wrote:

No -- think of Charisma as force of personality (only) -- like the old Willpower stat from James Bond 007. Comeliness is strictly physical appearance.

Liberty's Edge

Ok.

comeliness

Hey, guys, so:

I've seen mention of people subscribing to a poster or a thread. Does anyone know about this?

I guess what I want to know is: is there an a way to be alerted when posts are made in the Avionia thread, or do I have to go looking for it each time I'm on the site?

Newbish question, I know, but I'm not really all that internet savvy.

I click on my name and then look under the "Campaigns" tab.

Okay.

And what's the pace of these things? I'll probably have to go to bed soon and I feel guilty, but it looks like it takes quite a while for everyone to check in, right?

Are there particular times when people are more active than at others?

Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid wrote:

Caspian and Jaegr always post fast. We can go back and forth several times a day. Wyvurn and Vanya... not so much, between internet issues and probably just generally having better things to do than check Paizo 20 times a day.

Kirth Gersen wrote:

Is there such a thing?

Okay, I'm not complaining, I just wanted to make sure I don't hold anything up if I just log off in the next half hour or so.

Kirth, can you give us more info on languages in your setting? Since I have 18 Int, I can speak a large number of languages already, and when you add Linguistics to that, the number gets even larger.

Vanya is, I assume, from some gloomy country swallowed up by the Aramnic Empire. So he'll speak his native tongue (whatever you want to call it), and also Aramnic, for sure. A lot of people in Aramni can also speak Orcish or Mabrahoring ("Infernal"). To operate in Aviona as he had, he'd speak High Elvish, and probably Common as well. For ranks in Linguistics, you've been hanging out with a bizarre assortment of people, so Halfling, Wood Elf, Dwarven, and Goblin are all possibilities. And if he's of a scholarly bent, he might have picked up one or more Greyhawk languages like Oeridian or Suel.

I plan to remake Vanya to become more sober and grim character. Perhaps he had a dream which made him throw away the vodka bottle, so I'm gonna make him more scholarly.
