building an archer oracle

Advice

I'm starting this thread to get some ideas, and see where it ends up. This is for one of my friends, who is trying to decide on a new character to play, and wanted to see what this looks like.

So the initial idea here is for an oracle, concentrating on archery for the combat, bow or crossbow undecided.

stats rolled: 16,16,15,13,12,11 - these are from memory, I will update later if I'm off.

I was thinking of the Wind mystery, and the haunted curse, as the player would like to play around with some 'special' abilities. So the invisibilty, flying, levitate etc. fit right in.

race:probably human

feats: I was thinking archery related for L 1,1(bonus),3,5 and getting an extra revelation at L7, and maybe again at L11

spells- mix of combat buffs, and recovery, using the abilities to take care of misc and movement.

Scarab Sages

I would say that and archery related "ANYTHING" class pretty much follows a standard type protocol for feats, namely the standard archery tree.

Obviously stay away from the poor vision curse, but I'm not to sure about how the "haunted" curse would affect his drawing of the arrows from his quiver.

I had toyed with the idea of playing a crossbow wielding bone oracle, but I chose the veiled sight curse for flavor and seeing only 30 feet kind of puts the whole "shooty pew pew" character to rest.

I am convinced you can make a repeating crossbow carrying caster work, if its possible to get the exotic weapon proficiency cheap...a Half Elf with the one alternate racial trait can take any exotic weapon prof free of charge in lieu of something I forget which.

With stats like that, for a crossbow wielder I would put the 16s in the DEX and CHA, the 15 in the CON, the 13 in INT, the 12 and 11 wherever.

I'm the DM for this group. The rolled stats are close, but actually 16, 16, 15, 14, 11, 11.

The number of feats needed for the ranged is tough. I might try to see what he thinks of a longspear instead, melee from the back rank.

If he uses a reach weapon the enemy gets a +4 to AC for attacking an enemy that is on the other side of an ally.

E(has soft cover)
A(ally)
P(trying to attacking through an allies square)

e=enemy
A=ally
p=player

PRD:Cover

To determine whether your target has cover from your ranged attack, choose a corner of your square. If any line from this corner to any corner of the target's square passes through a square or border that blocks line of effect or provides cover, or through a square occupied by a creature, the target has cover (+4 to AC).

When making a melee attack against an adjacent target, your target has cover if any line from any corner of your square to the target's square goes through a wall (including a low wall). When making a melee attack against a target that isn't adjacent to you (such as with a reach weapon), use the rules for determining cover from ranged attacks.

edit:I don't know of any feats to get rid of the soft cover penalty.

ah, good reminder. It's not a frequently used combat style at our game.
