Does spell pool let you add metamagic to prepared spells?

Pool Spell (Su): At 4th level, the magus learns to use his arcane pool to cast additional spells. He can cast any magus spell that he knows by expending a number of points from his arcane pool equal to the spell’s level (minimum 1). He can cast spells with metamagic feats in this way, but he must spend additional points from his arcane pool to do so, equal to the level increase from the metamagic feats. The spell’s overall adjusted level must still be one that he can cast.

...

I don't think it works this way, but I wanted to make sure (some of what's being said on this forum has confused me).

Say I have fireball prepared (and thus don't need to spend Pool Points to cast it). I have the Empower Spell feat.

Does the Pool Spell ability allow me to cast that fireball as an empowered fireball for only 2 Pool Points?

No, "spells with metamagic feats .. must spend additional points" qualifies "He can cast any magus spell that he knows by ..", so he'd have to cast the entire spell using pool points (5 points) and would still have the fireball prepared.

That was my reading too. Thanks.

Actually this was not how I read it. I think that this makes it possible to cast a spell that you know but you have not prepared. You must spend a lot of points though (3 points for a fireball or 5 for an empowered one), so I guess that you won't do it often.
